At least they’re being sold at dollar stores. So the price kind of reflects the quality I suppose.

These look like McDonalds Happy Meal toys.

Finally a toyline where I can find enough cheap fodder to repaint and armybuild them as complete nobodies without having to break valuable figures for doing this:

The last time I felt so disconnected from the toy market was when G1 or G2 ended. I honestly don't know who buys most of the landfill bait littering shelves the last few years. Maybe Chinese overcapacity really is a thing and that's behind this channel stuffing.

The last time I was in a budget store I saw quite a few generic no name transforming robot figures that weren't even knock-offs or bootlegs... Just budget value non-brand transforming figures to pick when a kid wants a robot that turns into something. It seems that Hasbro noticed that those are selling and they want their cut of this part of the market too.

This kind of figures has absolutely no appeal for collectors unless you're either a total completionist or you're going to customise the hell out of it. Otherwise they go completely uder the radar. There's no point of stocking them for any online store... Shipping costs for a purchase could be more than the figure itself.

Happy Meal toys are better quality than these things.

Well, I guess since people are paying $2 a pop for a Shopkin that costs $.05 to produce, executives can make the case these Transformers are underpriced.

    \"Dad, can I have a pack of trashpacks?\"

\"No. I\'m not paying $4.99 for a pack of three pencil toppers. Here\'s $.50 to get the same thing out of a bubble gum machine.\"

The team producing the Shopkins and similar trinket toys are pulling in 90% margin or more. This makes everyone else look terrible and makes executives tell production teams they need to bring their margin up. So you get $1 toys being sold at retail for $6.99 that should be $2.99.

It's amazing how many people have never actually seen a Happy Meal toy.

Then why'd you click the news article, then the comments thread, and then post a comment?

There's literally thousands of other places you could be reading and posting right now.
