HASCON 2017: New Bumblebee film details revealed at Transformers film panel
The Transformers: ‘The Last Knight’ in the Making panel at HASCON 2017 just wrapped and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared a few details about director Travis Knight’s upcoming Bumblebee solo film.

The movie is among the projects to come out of the Transformers writers group, which was formed to transform the franchise and allow for films that would focus on different characters and time periods, and ultimately, flesh out the Transformers’ cinematic universe.di Bonaventura explained that the movie, which is about halfway finished, is set to be the most emotional installment in the Transformers series. Set in 1986, the film will bring things back to the simpler feeling of Michael Bay’s first blockbuster by focusing on just one Autobot.

Audiences will learn Bumblebee’s origin (new for the film), and see that while he’s still the “fun guy,” he’s a lot deeper than we’ve seen before. This will be helped by the “really special relationship” the Autobot has with actress Hailee Steinfeld in the movie. di Bonaventura added that E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was a touchstone for it.

In terms of the film’s style, the ’80s setting allows for a lot of fun, from the cars to the music (and the terrible hairstyles). On the action front, it’s impossible to top Bayhem, so there’ll be a “different type” of action.

And was subsequently torpedoed into oblivion when TF5 failed to even make as much money as the first film. They probably have to say the writer's room even contributed here because the BB film was always promoted as being from that conglomerate.
You know, exactly what people wanted: a movie focusing on EVEN LESS ROBOTS to the point the only major good guy robot is the one EVERYBODY IS FUCKING SICK OF AFTER TEN STRAIGHT YEARS OF HIM!

As a result, making him retroactively a much more shallow character as a whole in the five previous films. Also, all bets are off that this new 'origin' is going to completely fuck with established cannon.
Why did they say "really special relationship" because everybody knows where that ends up!

Not to mention the relationship will be utterly pointless because guess who isn't going to ever show up again in the five films that take place after the BB film? Hint: Hailee Steinfeld.
Whoever the hell wrote this never saw Kung Fury. Which is pretty much the most 80's thing ever AND it tops bayhem repeatedly.

If they can do their own cheesy, goofy call back to the 1980s ala the Guardians of the Galaxy films. More power to them and go for it.

They're not going to do it if they've only got one protagonist robot.

I say it's a 50/50 chance. If we do it will probably be from that leaked movie line hopefully. They probably haven't even started on the Bumblebee movie line yet lol that could possibly be the reason why it was pushed to December.

    I'm sorry but

I'm amazed at this point anyone cares so much. It's clear that the current corporate creative team have no interest in constructing something coherent or distinctive. Just don't see the movie and let them reboot it in 10 years or so.

Why bother if it's a bot we already know plenty about?

Are they gonna retcon even more or add unnecessary stuff? If so, then the "Cinematic Universe" has failed on the continuity part. Also, this film sounds like fanfiction.

    Because kid appeal character.

It's a sad attempt at making a spin off, but they fucked up so much with the continuity in the main line films they have to do a prequel of sorts because then they can just handwave away a bunch of different shit.

Because they're not going to pull a Days of Future Past sadly where they just completely erase the bullshit future that was the previous films.

If you mean from the Bee movie, i doubt it, its way to early to show the toys, seeing they may not be released till Fall 2018

Don't go looking into this info much. Most of the details here are exaggerated from what was told during the Hascon Dinner.

We had an exclusive interview with the brand team. We'll post when the rush is over. The team at Hascon is working tirelessly. Since we have other network sites, we have to cover more than Transformers.
