This was the third of three Transformers events in 24 hours in Hong Kong for me at the end of last week. The first was Hasbro's Transformers Madness (toy launch) Event at ToysRUs at Tsim Sha Tsui, which I posted up photos here (check it out, in case it doesn't make it to the news page). The second was the Transformers themed Ramen restaurant, which two of us TFW members have posted up photos here (it didn't hit the news page yet, so check it out too). So it's been an exiting time for Transformers fans in Hong Kong at the moment, along with a new movie and a heap of new toys too. As one of the many Transformers Movie promotions and exhibits in Asia, this one is in Hong Kong, in the middle of a shopping centre in the North West city of Tuen Mun. The Shopping Centre is called Tuen Mun Town Plaza, or TMT Plaza... and there wasn't any signage that I could find to say how long it will be there for. The exhibit takes up a lot of floor space, with several large robot statues, a console gaming area, toy displays, and a mini-store jointly run by ToysRUs (who have a store in the centre) and a merchandise store. Now why can't we have this sort of thing in Australia... just about every other country in this part of the world has had a nice Transformers exhibit in the last month. . This is an amazing set up, and the statues are really nicely detailed. I hope they don't just get trashed when the exhibit is finished. . . . . . . . Bumblebee and Optimus . . . . Megatron . Hot Rod . Sqweeks. They also had a competition, to win one of 10 gold colored Optimus statues (I can't tell if it is an existing licensed statue, or something specially created for this event). People have to post up their "happy moment" to the facebook page of the TMTplaza before June 30th, to win one. . Over at the toy display corner, some nice dioramas and mini-displays. The Headmasters display is really interesting, for having both old and new versions of most toys in the display. Movie mini-displays... Movie 1 and Movie 2. Movie 3 and Movie 4. Movie 5... and evil "Optimus" toys (maybe inspired by the theme of the fifth movie) . Primus and Unicron... also intentional because of an element in the fifth movie? Star Saber - old and new. (not sure why this one is featured) A panorama photo, so some people are blurred from moving while it was being taken. The mini-store, with three giant Super Deformed figures in front. . . . . These watches looked expensive... and reminded me of Cogman. . These two rubber things looked really nice and I would have bought them if they didn't cost so much - about US$50! That's more than the price of a Deluxe toy for each of them, and they are only about the size of a Legends toy (and they don't transform). . Vinyl Optimus and Bumblebee, in two different decos for each. . These things make me think of South Park... .
My beloved amazing Hong Kong, I so miss your rains, your skyscrapers and the smell of fish! Damn, you're super lucky person, that you're living here, China is full of Transformers and TF-fans, I know! I met more fans there for 2 weeks, than for all my previous life in Russia.
I would like to know who or what group or company made the statues, those alone are enough to draw people around the area. Their work is really super duper great. They should really be commended. Not only by the people but also by the fans. The level of detail, scale, etc. are no joke. I do hope their statues can be rented/borrowed on some TF-Related / Promotion events around Asia and possibly in the West. Some of our malls in our country have tf statues but not on that level. I really really envy guys who are in that event. This kind of work is worthy enough to be displayed on events like SDCC or AsiaPop Comicon. The guys must be hired again to make more of these.
I like how the Optimus statue is in a dramatic action pose but Bumblebee is just standing straight; waiting to be beat up. Also: Star Saber!
