That's not Optimus's dark side. He hasn't painted himself with flames and started swinging face-stealing edgelord hooks.
his dark side...? where he yet again gave megatron a chance to surrender and was betrayed, so he took the only route he could? and even before he dealt the final shot asked for forgiveness? that's not even dark. that's straight up sad. poor optimus. dark would be if he enjoyed killing or went to lengths to kill in the most graphic ways possible. and then said something about honor. also jesus, optimus straight up blew megatron's head off.
Like others have said, that's not dark, that's literally regular Optimus using his last resort option and outlook. so excited to see what transpires out of this.
dont we already have this? sorry IDW, nothing you can do to make optimus as dark as the psychopathic face ripping optimus prime... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE3uMlC-tME
Man I wish it was easier for me to gain access to read comics I REALLY want to read this because I love the theory behind it.
I've always wanted to see something like this played out someday. It'll be interesting how they decide to differ it. And if anyone thinks this is "dark", I think Transformers ended being just children fare at the beginning of the movie when Ironhide and the others were basically slaughtered on the shuttle on the way to Earth. The first fifteen to twenty minutes of the movie was the Game of Thrones Red Wedding of the 84 product line being wiped out.
Why bother doing a story based on the animated G1 universe when you're not going to bother to draw the characters correctly and not even colour them correctly?! IDW published a whole book that featured TON of model sheets yet it's like they never did... I'm sorry, but after DECADES of artists not caring about drawing characters correctly (save for very few notable exceptions)... I'm just sick of it. This is not fan art. This is a professionally paid job. Do it right or just buzz off.
"In this reality, without Megatron to bargain for their lives, the warriors meet an untimely fate within Unicron's fiery belly." Uh, that's bullshit. Megatron didn't bargain for their lives, they were pretty clearly dead or near-dead by the time Unicron found them, and he would've made minions out of their parts to destroy the matrix with or without Megatron/Galvatron as their leader.
Interesting direction The first page of the alternate timeline already goes in a direction I didn't expect -- Unicron doesn't just change different 'Cons into different heralds; he simply eats everyone without Megatron there to bargain with him. Presumably, without a herald to "destroy the Autobot matrix," Unicron will simply give Cybertron a wide berth and go on eating other defenseless, Lithone-like planets. Will Optimus will press the advantage and fight to retake Cybertron from the staging grounds on Moonbases 1 and 2? You'd think, but then again, the Autobots have still suffered some pretty serious losses. Looking forward to this one.
And that. Even the writer fails to do the job correctly. Barber too since he was supposed to catch such errors, but didn't...
I have a feeling this is going to be edgy for the sake of it. Those poor Seekers and Insecticons....RIP.
I disagree; I think it's a fair interpretation. The Decepticons were all caught within Unicron's red mist and headed for consumption until Megatron clawed and skidded his way down Unicron's horns and stood his ground. It's a fair interpretation of "Your bargaining posture is highly dubious." We don't really know what Unicron's herald-creating powers are; it could be that in the absence of a being of Megatron's power, Unicron wouldn't bother trying to upgrade, say, Kickback into Galvaback.
The art is somewhat suspect and Unicron not turning the damaged cons into his army was a bit of a reach but I am stoked for this regardless. Wish they could've gotten Don Fig to do it in his sunbow-style from the movie adaptation-that would've put this over the edge for me. Still wishing IDW would do their own take on season 3 and pick up after the events of the movie. I would buy the crap out of that.
'Cept that Unicron was making Megatron his bitch. Why not Guido? He, unlike Don, can actually draw on model. Then there's Casey who could've done a better job too.
Right, but he wanted a *powerful* bitch, tough enough to "rip open Ultra Magnus" and destroy the Matrix. So I think it's a fair interpretation that Unicron was just going to eat the garbage until Megatron's defiance sort of impressed him in a "hey, this guy would make a powerful herald" sort of way. It's a defensible interpretation and I'm kind of surprised at the instant negative reaction by some people to it.
Powerful AND above all - an obedient bitch. He was showing Megatron what could happen to him if he failed to obey and continued to demonstrate that throughout the movie. Also, at the end, Unicron stated that Galvatron's persistent defiance made him decide to not spare Cybertron after all so there's no way he was impressed by that.
