Am I seeing things or does the Hasbro version actually have MORE paint apps?

They look pretty much identical in vehicle mode other than the grey plastic on the missile and trigger, but in robot mode the Hasbro version has extra paint on the crotch and chest and forearms.

    Well, "yes" and "no".

Hasbro added touches of red all through out his design and painted key details to help lend to Meg's current look in the pages of MTMTE.

Now with Takara, they took a more G1 approach and went with a minimalist design. They dropped lots of the red that you see on the Hasbro version. The biggest changes have been the adding of silver paint to; the inside of his forarms, several connected points, and the bar across his chest and shoulder hinges.

It's a classy look in the vein of " Less is more". Comparing the two side by side, its amazing just how G1 Takara's looks. Hasbro's, while nice, does come off looking more like a toy.

WOW! It's funny how this kind of logic only works when we're talking about Takara.

I really like the LACK of red/orange in the Takara version.

I think I slightly prefer Takara's deco but Hasbro's is not bad at all. I wouldn't spend the extra cash for the Takara one. The comparison pics make me want to get this mold too!

Hasbro really did a good job with their version. Unlike Magnus.

They're both winners in my view. Awesome molds! :)

While I do like Takara's take on this mold I don't see a big enough difference to it to spend the extra money on it. I'll stick with my Hasbro version and admire this from afar.

Yes it happens a lot more than people seem to want to admit.

This deco was hurting for visual interest already but the Takara deco just takes drab to new heights. A big win in grey instead of red at the collar but otherwise soooo bland.

And this is from a guy who does adore how G1 the Hasbro already is. Best Megatron in a long long time outside of third party but I can acknowledge that despite that all that silver, while very much appreciated isn't all that interesting to look at.

TL;DR: every little bit of flair on the Hasbro deco is much needed.

yup, the chest hinges and details make a TON of difference to me, just cleaner and flows better ~ more cohesive i think is what i'm looking for. I'd be fine with the Hasbro version, but since i saw this before i found that, and it's really only a few bucks more, i'm goin' Takara.

the red chest hinges on the Hasbro one kinda kill it for me, they make the head platform look more separated, rather than one continuous piece...

Um, no. It is nowhere even close to MTMTE Megatron who looks this.

If by G1 approach you mean a G1 CARTOON approach, then yes. Takara went with cartoon accuracy over toy accuracy. There isn't much more silver paint added. Most of those parts are molded in grey plastic instead of red on the Hasbro version.

:rolleyes2  OK, well I don't know if I'd say "amazing", but yes the Hasbro version is closer to the G1 toy which is kind of the point. Two different and valid approaches to the same character. The point remains that the Hasbro version looks to have more paint apps which is unusual and noteworthy regardless of one's opinion on which looks better.

Was that a makeshift gun form I saw, or just a mid-transformation shot?

Is it just me, or is he taller than the Hasbro version? In all the video reviews I saw, even at full height, he was notably shorter than MP-10. But here, even with his legs open one notch, he looks nearly even with him (granted, MP-10's legs aren't closed either, but still... he looks WAY more compatible scale-wise with MP-10 than I expected, or than I remember the Hasbro version being in video reviews.)

Is it just camera perspective, an illusion, what? Either way, now I no longer feel so bad about missing out on Apollyon. The face sculpt is also a lot better than I remember.

Not all is a paint swap. Some red paint is now silver and some, not all, red plastic is now grey, which gives him that unfortunate tank top look.

He has a makeshift gun mode by folding and swinging down the legs from tank mode.
