War for Cybertron Gamestop Preorder Exclusive Multiplayer Mode Shockwave

Hi everyone,

Gamestop.com just updated their pre-order page for War for Cybertron. That isn't what's new though, instead, it seems that they've confirmed that Shockwave will be a playable character......in multiplayer mode anyway.

Upon purchasing the game from Gamestop, Gamestop will either send out or give the purchaser a code to unlock Shockwave (depending on if the game was ordered from the internet, or purchased in stores).

It's not specified whether players will need to download Shockwave from their game system's server, or if he's already on the disc, and that the code simply unlocks him.

Shockwave is playable only in the Escalation mode of Multiplayer, and it's not specified whether they're speaking of online, or offline multiplayer either.

That sounds pretty cool! Makes me interested enough to want to preorder the game.

I'm wondering though, what is Shockwave going to look like in the game?

I probably won't preorder because the code will be online at some point without needing a preordered game.

if anything,shockwave will most likely look like his TFA counterpart,very tall with G1 colors and a few more unknown features. I cant wait

I'll wait to get the game until I hear a lot of good feedback, good online support, no lag etc. Shockwave would be cool to unlock.

I also posted the release date in a thread it was also posted on my forum. The Australian date release is 30/06 this information was given to me by "GAMES TRADER" at Broadway shopping center in Sydney New South Wales.

Awesome, although I'm a bit disappointed that he's mp-only AND in only one game mode at that. However, I'm excited to see what he looks like; Shockwave has always been one of my favorite characters and designs.

Of course it doesn't go for pc.... -.-

Seriously? I have to go to Gamestop if I want to play as Shockwave? I refuse to shop there.

Oh well. It's only in one gameplay mode, so I don't think I'll miss too much.

Now a days the codes aren't put into the game itself. They're download codes. All random. So one code isn't gonna work for everyone.

I;m thinking that they would use his original G1 form because he never had an Earth form in G1.

That's really cool, but when I pre-ordered Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, I didn't get a keychain or a code for Gold Optimus Prime. I had to get it from some guy on the Internet :/ I hope they'll be more organized at my Gamestop here.

Store content exclusive pre-orders suck! Buyers away from such stores always get screwed by either not having the chance to have the exclusive character/content or having to pay gray market prices to get them

Say content because we are, after all, talking about the game actually having a difference from others. I don't mind extra items and what not, non-gaming related, exclusives because these things have little or nothing to do with the actual gaming experience. Big thumbs down if this exclusive doesn't show up elsewhere or for free later :'(

PS: Wish they had a picture of Shockwave. I would love to see his new look.

this is rediculous. I can deal with an extra weapon or other color schemes being preorder extras, but a whole extra major character? thats bs. I'll probably still buy the game if it gets good reviews and I'll probably preorder it to get shockwave, but this kind of crap really turns me off

Anyone remember the first Transformers movie game, where if you bought it at Gamestop you got "Exclusive" cybertron maps.....except the code included literally did nothing because the maps were already on EVER version of the game at EVERY store?

You want to show companies this kind of BS is unacceptable? Don't preorder it. The more support you throw at a sucky system only encourages it to stick around. If you hate the idea of preordering to unlock actual gameplay features, and a MAJOR CHARACTER, then WHY would you then go and accept that system?

I'd love to play as Shockwave. I'm not going to unless it's released as a DLC/patch/whatever. Not only do I have a problem with the idea that I pre-order to get some in-game content (like a brand new character), I hate Gamestop and their preorder crap in the first place. So Shockwave will never be gracing my system unless he's available through other means.

You can't change a system if you keep supporting the system. This is why people giggled when things like the Modern Warfare 2 boycott showed up. People were OMGIHATEMW2 and when launch rolled around, look who was playing. I just wish more people would actually stick to their principles than just roll over because they want something.

what really sucks for me, is the one place i used to pre-order my games, gamecrazy, which had a much better system than gamestop, all closed down. i havent seen one in months. which means i just half to go back to gamestop to get all the stuff i want. which is a shame. gamecrazy was a great store.

yeah, i agree - incentives for preordering games area terrible idea.

i want every single piece of pointless fanwank i can think of included FOR FREE, and anything else is an insult to trufans everywhere.

bumble bee, jazz, wheeljack, seekers had cybertron modes in g1 but they have been modified so im guessing shockwave will aswell

There's a more local chain of videogame stores out here, which I'm thankful for having something OTHER than Gamestop, but sometimes I'll just go over to Best Buy instead.

Honestly, I don't get the need to preorder. Most games are not going to sell out, so the idea of guaranteeing a copy at launch is BS. If you want the game, and your VG store doesn't have a copy, poke your head into Best Buy/Target/Wal-Mart and get it there.

Great, now I'm torn. Well I would like to preorder if that's the absolute only way to get Shockwave. I'm fairly certain he's gon be packin some major firepower. However....this game needs to entice me even more to ensure that I really want it enough to preorder. Those two trailers are just not enough, so more teases please!....

Big question is....Is the code a DLC code or is it just an "unlock" cheat code? DLC would mean you have to buy from them to get the character, which is total bullshit no matter how you look at it. I hate store/company exclusive DLC, especially like they did with Mass Effect 2 where multiple stores got exclusives only for their store. I for one hope it's just like the last game, where it was just a cheat code and not DLC.

Yeah I did that with ROTF to unlock Gold Prime only to get some gay flipbook key chain and the code was on the net within a hour -_-

Man,I knew about this before it was posted.Like,...,Last night.Guess I didn't get here fast enough. oh well,know it's posted.Good thing I just got a 360 for X-mas!As with everyone else,It,er..,HE should be free anyway(meaning he should come with the game),Everyone should get the code(that's you PC),and I wonder what the slag he looks like.

I'm split over this.

I will get this content regardless but I want to know how the code will work. Will it be a market place code or an in game code? if its an ingame code I dont see a point to going with them unless their the cheapest.

It's probably a code that is either packaged with the game like Batman AA did or a card given out from Gamestop when you go pick it up. In Batman case the DEM Bones and Crime Alley only game with the game and were never put up on PSN or marketplace.

I really don't get some of the hate for this...Oh noes, Activision made a deal with Gamestop that for puchasing X number of copies they get an incentive to promote the game with their customers.

Just like the variant covers comic stores get for ordering X number of copies...

or the exclusive toys Target, Walmart and TRU get for ordering X million dollars in TF merch...

Look, Gamestop is a big company and the game industry is BETTER for having them exist. Look at the selection offered at WM, TGT, TRU etc...usually a couple dozen games for any system. Do you really want the buyers for those guys deciding what the ONLY games offered to you are? At least with Gamestop I can go in and get a much better selection and some games the big guys just don't care about...and with companies like Gamecrazy going under specialty game retailers need the extra help. Yes, they are acompany and want profit...but I see far too many people act like they should give 80% of what the game was bought for in trade and sell it for 50% of what it was new...which would put them under pretty darned quick...

im sure with most games, if you preorder and get the code, it just saves you the hassle of completing or unlocking it in the game.

im sure if you dont preorder through gamestop you can still get the skin/character by unlocking an achievement.
