Transformers Universe just announced that they will be closing its doors starting today and issuing refunds to paying members. The announcement copied in its entirety below was a difficult one to make for the development team and one that will sadden many fans of the game.
The game will see full closure by January 31, 2015. Read on for the full update and details.
Today Jagex and Hasbro can confirm that Transformers Universe will close. This decision comes at an important time for both companies as they both realign their plans and focuses for 2015.
What does this mean for our players?
We’re hugely disappointed, but the game will be closing over the coming weeks before its full closure at 10am GMT on 31st January 2015.
As a team, we can’t thank players enough for the support that they have shown us over the last few years of development, and even more so during our BETA period.
What’s next?
The shutdown period will begin from today. As part of the winding down we will be refunding all those that have purchased a Founders Pack, as well as anyone that has purchased relic bundles and starter packs. These refunds should be all processed in the next 30 days. In addition we will be closing the ability for new players to make accounts, those of you that already have accounts will continue to be able to use them until the closure date.
If you haven’t received a refund after 16th January 2015 and believe you should have, then please contact the Jagex customer services team ([email protected]). We will also be pushing an update live today that will switch off the ability for players to buy any more relic packs, or starter bundles.
As mentioned, on 31st Jan 2015 @ 10am GMT we will be shutting down all servers and forums and will freeze all Transformers Universe related accounts. These accounts will then be live for another 60 days (approx.) for any final queries before deletion on 31st March 2015.
Between now and the date of closure the Jagex CM team will continue to operate on the forums and we will provide relevant updates on the website as necessary.
If you have any queries about your account or refunds please contact our customer support team on tu_refunds@support.jagex.com. Please understand that they may be very busy during this time but they will respond as quickly as possible.
Thank You
Once again we want to thank all of the players that have played Transformers Universe and all those that have worked on the project. We’re sure you have thoughts and feelings that you’d like to share on this, so please do so on our forums. Please bear in mind that this is obviously a challenging time for all involved, especially the CM team. There will be plenty of things we can’t comment on, so please respect their position.
Sincerely
Transformers Universe Development Team

Barely any surprise there, the game was doomed almost from the start. Delayed for years, boring and uninspired gameplay, absolutely no marketing whatsoever, the only chance it had would be to get it released and advertised alongside Age of Extinction. No wonder it didn't even last for half a year.
If something I feel sad for the developers who invested so much time and money in it. Not for the game itself though, it was simply dreadful, I couldn't stand playing it more than two times.

Oh yeah if someone could save the videos that would be awesome. Best i could do is to do a simple copy paste to grab the bio text and try to get the static robot and alt mode pictures.
Infosaur
Somebody needs to save all the bios before they're lost. (and the into vids that were made)
I can't remember all the new characters, but sign me up for Showdown to make it into an IDW comic sometime.
Red & White truck, ego centric gladiator (think the worst of WWF).
He could be as tough as Grimlock, if he'd stop waving to the crowd. (OOOO here comes Rumble off the top rope with the folding chair! *SLAM*)
I want one.
Autovolt 127
All I want to see is just so Hasbro finds use for some of the new original characters.
RazorX3000
What a shame. It was quite predictable that it was gonna eventually down though.

Honestly, I found this game to be about as interesting as the mobile games. Everything good about this game got sloughed off when they changed genres.
Rikkmaery
And you wonder why you never get anything good. Hasbro probably notices how the majority of the fan base doesn't seem to care for the games that have been made.
Enjoy Battle Tactics, this community is telling Hasbro they want more mobile app games :/
edgs2099
No. Just no.
soundwaverulls
All the designs looked like Arcee, Ratchet, and breakdown. There was a huge lack of variety that really turned me off the designs, and probably turned off many others too.

There is presently a petition being made towards Hasbro to have development resume. Whether still with JAGEX, or another company, that can be decided later.
The game still has strong potential, huge amounts of unfinished content and potential still reside in the game.
Multiple game modes, both PvP and PvE are hinted in the code. And a large roster(roughly 1/3rd of total characters revealed and leaked) are canon ones that are familiar.
Please support this game, I'm sure you'd rather Hasbro not focus purely on mobile games, which they are planning to do.

I'd be more upset if their fembots weren't all Prime Arcee clones and if they hadn't switched to being a MOBA.

Aaaarrrrggghhh!!!!!!! No!!!!!! Why,jagex/hasbro,why?

Genuinely saddened by the news the game's being canned… It had a lot of promise, I really enjoyed the character designs they used, and the world they were crafting out for it. I hope someone in the creative team at Hasbro doesn't let their hard work go to waste and uses the designs/ideas again in the future.
CybertronianFan
One of the main reasons this game failed was because of the horrid changes implemented from a MMO to a MOBA. What's the lesson you're preaching again here?
Yobuster
Hmm i didn't know the chinese game also died a horrible death. I barely heard anything about it at all, hardly even saw any of the designs.
Well from what i've been reading on the forums so far, it seems that the designs doesn't entice that many people into wanting physical toys of these guys?
I would have thought for sure toys of these guys would be something people would be interested in. New characters with toys?
blitzjoans
I heard that too, probable true because of the bad critics of Deadpool.
At least Matt Tieger and some important designers of WFC/FOC still are in the studio, i will cross fingers!
Omnius
Lord. At least NetDragon's Chinese game made it out of beta for a few months before it died. I'm not surprised this happened, but it's a huge shame for everyone at Jagex who gave it their all to get this game out only for it to be massively neutered, then killed before it had a chance to get going.
Autovolt 127
This is the only thing I'm legit mourning. I hope these character get salvaged someday.

I am very very sad about this because it reminds me of the server shutdown from the game Exteel back in 2008, which had the same story. I'm so sad that this experience returns for me.
They got paid for it, that's the thing about game developers.
I think they don't really mind what they are doing, because they got a deadline and they know something bad will happen if they exceed the deadline. Working under pressure is not a perfect job you know.
Oh yes, me too. I can't describe my feelings as soon as I received my closed beta key.
edgs2099
That's funny. This whole thing started falling apart when they announced that they were abandoning the MMO part of it.
