Transformers ROTF Game Reviewed by TFW2005 megatron2
TFW2005's Joe Moore had the pleasure of playing the ROTF Video Game all weekend and has reviewed it for us all. I also played it, and got my ass kicked on multiplayer a bit, so I've added some thoughts too.

Check out an in depth review of the hit game by heading over to the thread here: TFW2005 Reviews Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Game (Xbox 360, PS3).

Remember, the official Transformers Revenge of the Fallen video game is out TODAY, - right now, for all major platforms. Go get yourself a copy and get online with your fellow 2005ers!

pretty cool ese. just plain and simple.
Spongezilla:
gah, I read the reviews, and I am disappointed. I'm starting to wish I got a PS3 instead of a Wii last year.

How's the PC version? Is it different, or the same?
TFElite:
I got the Wii version yesterday... started playing today, and thought it was pretty good... graphics not too bad, and there were some things that i liked and hated about both games 1 and 2. Lack of being able to transform at will on some levels, not good in my opinion. Overall, thought it was an alright game. That is, untill my freind rented the XBox360 version. Now, I'm mad.

I have this for Xbox 360 and I already like more than the first one (which I had for Wii) after only a day of playing it (mostly Multiplayer).
Multiplayer is fun, all the special takedowns are cool, transforming is better, weapons are better, graphics are better, and I just like the whole game better. I can't wait to get more characters to use in multiplayer.
I only wish you could play against friends on the same console.

Anyways, if anyone comes across "RisingDragon11" in multiplayer, that's me.
DrBifford:
I might just have to finally breakdown and buy a real game system to play this game. It looks like a lot more fun than the Pong I've been playing on my Activision system.
dbec1:
I bought this game for my son on PS3 and he loves it. It has just the right amount of difficutly. I'm not a fan of timed mission but the award system seems fair. I have not gone too far into the game, but I'm hoping there are plenty of unlockable items. I have not tried multiplayer, but hope to do so soon.
Automaster:
I love the ability to switch back and forth from Autobots and Decepticons. It gives you the opportunity to play their feud out from both sides.
-Superion-:
I got this game for the multiplayer and so far, I'm not disappointed. It needs more playable characters via DLC in order to substain the interest in the long run, but for now it's a blast. The only problem is, I'm going against all those Halo fanboys and they can aim and move much easier than I could. I still prefer KB+mouse over dialog stick for shooters like this one, but I see no point getting a PC version now that I have 360.
Railguard:
Sounds cool but if I got a poster it would get destroyed in my house. The game, I can't wait to rent it.
DeceptiKreep:
This game looks like it kicks ass! Unfortunately I am unemployed and cannot afford it. So I have to admire it from afar
Leverage:
This game is much better than the first. It may have its faults as well, but congratulations Luxoflux for a good game. Now onward to achievements.
ManiactoaLaco:
Huh, I hope the PS2 version is fun for a little while...

frenzy_rumble:
loving it so far. just got it tonight...not much time to play, but it's giving me great inspiration. I actually like it better than the movie!

I'll be on multiplayer once I get myself out of "extreme noob" mode.
Draktyr:
I enjoyed the hell outta the Autobot campaign, and am now tackling the 'Con side. Campaigns could have been a bit longer, but the game is still really cool! WAY better than the first...NO MORE ENERGON CUBES OR SYMBOLS TO COLLECT...well, save for the Energon that comes from defeated enemies and no more than FIVE symbols in each level!
-Superion-:
Multiplayer mode is going to give this game real longitivity, as well they support it with DLC content.
ThrottleBot:
Awsome!! Love the online interaction more people need to buy it to have more gamer to kick decepticon ass!
Heromus Prime:
I have the xbox 360 version. very nice transition from the first. smooth graphics. awesome gameplay. not to mention online bots vs bots. what more could you ask for? I recommend that you grab a couple of friends, a bumblebee blast slurpee from 7-11 and sit back and enjoy watching the metal and sparks fly while playing transformers revenge of the fallen the game.
Talon84:
This game looks amazing. Way better than the first movie game. If I had the money I would go get it.
Big Filipino:
Can't wait to try this game for the PS3
Ravenxl7:
The game, while not perfect, is actually quite good. Got a chance to play it, as one of my friends got it for their PS3. I'm going to wait a while and get it for my PS2. Probably till late this year/early next year. That way I can either buy it with some Christmas money, or get it as a gift from someone.
tony77tony77:
the game looks alright. Its no SF4 thats for sure!!!
Sage o' G-fruit:
Looks much better than Movie One game. From what I've seen, the already superior DS version is having another go, with a better game engine. I've got to say, the DS one is an instant buy. ^^
Overload:
So far, much better than the first game, and thats all I was really looking for. Have only had a small amount of time to play though, have to get more active this weekend.
VaderPrime1:
This game looks great, I can't wait to get it. I hope there's a LOT DLC coming out!!!
Grimlocka go-go:
Played the game at Botcon, enjoyed the hell outa it, much better than the first game, and the multiplayer is a great add on, almost a game initself.
Vexza:
Haven't had a chance to buy it yet, but it looks cool! Can't wait to get it. I'm so glad that, as a girl, I can enjoy video games. ^^ What would I do without fandoms and nerdiness?!?!

Now that I think about it... almost everything Transformers looks cool. 'Cept maybe Skids and Mudflap. (But they're awesome, so it's okay)

I wonder if I should get it for the PS2 or Wii... Hmm...
Silverwynde:
I'm a human female who enjoys videogames, too, but that doesn't stop me from ROYALLY SUCKING SCRAP at them. (Really, if it weren't for Pokémon, I wouldn't play them much at all, I think.) But I can't resist playing as Bumblebee, no matter how quickly I get my ass killed. (And killed, and killed, and killed...)

The Wii game was alright. It only lets you transform on a few levels though. You don't choose Autobot or Decepticon campain, it's all one solid campain that has both Bot and Con missions mixed in there. You also can't choose your character, they are already set for you.
Soundout:
I've got the wii version and its pretty good so far. My only complaints is the fact you can only transform on certain levels. Otherwise its great and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the first.
OptimusWii:
To me, the game doesn't look that great but it does look like an improvement over the first game.

I warn you both. Do not get either the PS2 or Wii version! And I'm about to tell you why...in my Transformers Revenge of the Fallen: The Game for the Wii review!!!!!!

First off, the game on the Wii platform is different from the game on all others except the Play Station 2. It is not similar to the previous Transformers Game disaster we all knew and abhorred.

Graphics
While I myself never tend to judge a game by its graphics, it is truly amazing how horrible the graphics are in this game. While not so caveman-ish as the Nintendo 64, this game's graphics are below the complexity of even Gamecube game graphics, more reminiscent of the more detailed DS games than any other Nintendo platform. While sporting bright colors and blocky polygons, you can not help but think of this as no more than a children's game.

Gameplay
Utilizing the Wii's nunchuck controller, TF:ROTF acts as little more than a game to satiate the minds of the newer, younger fans. And I mean younger than me (14). This game's strictly linear storyline inhibits players from choosing sides and even free roaming. The plot is so restricted, that even the camera angle is fixed and each level is strictly a one-pathed "race to the finish", if you will (not actually a race, but you know what I mean). With that in mind (fixed camera angle, one path only), the other features of the game are even further restricted. Players are incapable of transforming, except to unleash their special attack. There are only a few levels in which characters assume and take command of their character's vehicular mode, and even that path is guided.

Features
The game has two different modes, campaign and arena. The campaign mode follows a very different take on the Revenge of the Fallen story, with the Matrix hidden in Russia, Devastator attacking Shanghai, Megatron never having heard of The Fallen until his resurrection, Bumblebee getting captured, and Sideways actually doing something. While campaign mode supposedly sports a co-op mode, I have found no way to do so. In this co-op mode, player 2 acts as a flying, shooting shield that aids the main player. While characters cannot be chosen, the characters you get the opportunity to play as in campaign are Optimus Prime, Power-Up Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide and Jetfire. Yes, Jetfire, who is so big that all of his attacks include him bending down to make contact with the enemy. The playable Decepticons are Megatron, Starscream and Sideways.

The arena mode is, as the ads describe it, battling never-ending hordes of drones who, even in campaign mode, are pretty boring to fight. In this mode, you and your (mandatory) friend may choose from 3 Autobots and 3 Decepticons, Optimus, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream and Sideways. As far as I know, there are no unlockable characters. Disappointingly, you cannot fight each other.

Extras
While this game is not too impressive, there are a few things that deserve recognition. Jetfire is in this game, and while not extremely awe-inspiring, this console is the only game to feature him as far as we know. There are even some Generation 1 nods, with Megatron declaring at Ironhide, "Such heroic nonsense" and the classic "One shall stand" line. One of Ironhide's little sound bytes inlclude "Ironhide, you really got the touch". Soundwave's voice is vocoded and even movie 1 references are in it.

The bonus features include videos, concept arts, and character models. The three unlockable videos are one of the saving rolls of this game, because those three videos happen to Generation 1's "The Ultimate Doom" parts 1,2, and 3. The character models are pretty neat to look at, but not neat enough to distract you from your regret in buying this game.

Conclusion
All in all, don't get this game. While it is a slight improvement over the previous, confusing Transformers game, this game scored below expectations for me. If possible, go for the PS3 or XBox 360 version and, if keyboard playing doesn't bother you, the PC version. It will be able to amuse your toddlers back home and is child-friendly enough for that (no cussing or robot-bleeding) very purpose and is also fun for people looking for a straightfoward game to kill a good amount of time, but not excellent. Save yourself the $50 and don't buy it. If you are still interested, rent it before you buy it, and when you buy it, wait for it's retail price to go down.

hailgalvatron:
i plan on picking up the 360 or PS3 version this weekend.. i hope that it's more playable than the first one.
Arcticwave:
I'm looking forward to giving this game a try!
Optimus Matt:
on the pc version it seems that low setting looks better than high.
Spongezilla:
Is the PC version like the PS3/360 versions? I can't get the wii and ps2 ones, I hate the idea of it. Why couldn't they do like the others?
grimlock1972:
game looks great id get a copy for my ps2 or DS but i have a long list of figs that come first XD
arcee09:
awsome movie
ogscorpion:
I played the game at the BotCon convention and it is totally better than the first. I pre-ordered mine from Amazon and I should be receiving it tomorrow. I ordered the PS3 version so I can't wait to play the game again in its entirety.
Rocker22:
Finally have had the time to play it some tonight and its pretty fun. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did the first one and the multiplayer works well.
eldorodimus:
This looks great, can't wait to get my hands on a copy.
mumdb1:
Really wish they would have thrown in some cinematics and made the game more in line with the current film, but ya can't have everything. Would have loved to get some more extras as well and many more unlockable characters, like Ravage. Still better than the first!
AutobotSkids:
Someone please review the DS version! Thanks!
vectorplex:
i love everything about the game...the only thing i have to comment is the fact that you must hold the transform button to hold the alt mode... other then that 100%
thygriever:
The game is a vast improvement over the first one. Graphics wise aren't too different but the gameplay has definitely been stepped up a notch. It's a great addition to fans especially after you've seen that awesome movie!
LifePincher:
This will be the first Transfomer game that I'll buy since the Commodore 64 version. Oh what memories.
wikkiddavis:
Just finished the PS3 Version with the Decepticons! I must say this one is much better then the first one I actually want to try to get all the Trophies for it. I love how each Charactor is differnt then the next one un like the first one were each Charactor was the Same Besides thier Alt Mode either Flying or Driving so thats a huge improvment over the first. The only thing I didnt enjoy about it is that the Story as far as I could tell didnt really move to well It Jumped around alot and and some of the missions didnt make sence. You capture sam in a mission and then the next thing you know the autbots have him again and then you never even see him again for the rest of the damn game not thats a bad thing.

The Unlockables could have been done better I hate having to load up my save game just to watch Unlocked Content but the Unlockables are easy to obtain unlike the first which had you running around looking for energon cubes that ur never goona find. I love the multiplayer I could play that for hours just transforming and gunning at people I don't know and killing them.

All in Alll not a bad game much better then the first one.
UnicronHound:
I'll probably get this soon looks decent enough
Red04Cobra:
After playing through the entire Autobot campaign I can honestly say that I enjoyed the game. Overall it was fun to play even with some of the minor setbacks that have already been mentioned. It would have been nice to see a wider variety of autobot/decepticon drones, and had a little more story in between levels, but those are my two biggest gripes.
