| Posted on 05-15-2009 at 09:55 AM by Tim Formas | Activision has issued a press release announcing the voice talent for the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game. Reprising their roles from the movies will be Shia LeBeouf (Sam Witwikcy), Megan Fox (Mikaela Banes), Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), Mark Ryan (Bumblebee), Jess Harnell (Ironhide), Charles Adler (Starscream) and Robert Foxworth (Ratchet). Frank Welker will also reprise his video game role as the voice of Megatron. In addition to the previously listed voice talent, Activision has announced that veteran voice actors John Di Maggio and James Arnold Taylor will voice the characters of Sideways and The Fallen, respectively.
John Di Maggio is well known for his role as Bender on Futurama, while James Arnold Taylor has recently voiced Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Clone Wars. Both are well known voice actors with a very long resume. Given said resumes, can this be an indication that they have been hired for the same roles in the movie? No official word has been given.

| For those not familiar with the names, John DiMaggio is the voice of Bender from Futurama (among many other things), while James Arnold Taylor is the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars Clone Wars television series (among other things).
Given their resume, is it possible that they also have the movie VA roles as well?

I believe that John DiMaggio is actually Sideways in the movie, but I think that James Arnold Taylor is filling in for someone else (Nimoy, perhaps?).

And as for Nimoy recently being in Star Trek and FRINGE, with him appearing in so many things all of a sudden now, it would only seem logical for him to appear in even more, specifically ROTF.

DiMaggio seems plausible for someone like Sideways. But for someone like The Fallen, I'd imagine that they'd try and get someone more famous than Taylor for the title baddie, even if Nimoy is unavailable.

Actually, this doesn't mean anything. Both John DiMaggio and James Arnold Taylor are frequently used voice actors in video games.
It could mean that they're the VAs for the movie or it could mean that the real voice actor, for whatever reason, couldn't be bothered to be part of the game.
I don't know why they couldn't get Hugo Weaving to voice the game(s), but I'm thinking this is their compromise to the fans. "Sorry guys, G1 Megs sounds like a crotchety old man, so we're going to use Agent Smith in the movie, but you can have him in the game..."

I don't think that Dimmagio is Sideways, I think he's the Fallen. He'sknown for playing tougher characters, such as the Brute Chieftain in Halo 3, and of course Marcus Fenix in Gears of War. I don't think he'd really fit Sideways depending on what he know of him.

Interesting. So I guess Mouth04 (aka Daniel Ross) didn't get the Starscream role this time. Too bad, I hope he gets another role in the game at least, even if its just 'Additional Voices'.

Good actors they've got there: a big yes to DiMaggio and Taylor, even if they do only end up as videogame stand-ins.
Though I will say that I want DiMaggio to do his Dr Drakken voice from Kim Possible for Sideways; not because I think it'd fit the character or anything, I just think it'd be hilarious.

Still, that video just jerked a realisation in my head: James Arnold Taylor as The Fallen? I like him as a VA, but I associate him more with that kind of Leo-from- TMNT role that seems to suit his natural speaking voice? Isn't he a bit light for The Fallen, or does he have a better range than I'm aware of?
