Universe Unicron is a Toys R Us Exclusive, Image Shown Not Final Product 16_30250_7d95f2e255c5fb8
We have received some more information on the Transformers Universe Unicron who we showed an image of (courtesy of ACToys.net) yesterday.
Toys R Us employee and 2005 Boards Member ChErikS states that:

this is a store exclusive, it is a Toys R Us exclusive. Also, this is the one that has been shown as a mock up, we don't know if the deco will be changed by the time it starts shipping but this is one is not the finished product. ...we were hoping the final product would be '86 movie acurate in deco but Hasbro has yet to enlighten us.

Ramrider:
Again, cool that it's getting a reissue for those that missed out first time round. I like the suggestion that it's a placeholder for the size class myself, and hopefully it pre-empts a subsequent reissue of Primus. I've already got my Unicron, but I missed out on Primus due to brokeness, and it never made it to the £25 clearance stage that previous Supremes all did.

I like the idea of the redecoed Omega Supreme, but it's not a good enough figure to buy again, and it's frankly not that much like the G1 fig that a new paintjob would make it a good homage. I'm looking forward to seeing how that Animated fella works for him...
eyeballkid:
I never did pick this up, despite seeing the yellow and black versions everywhere. I just never liked the clear plastic on the arms. It looks tacky.

I might pick this up, but I'm still on the fence. They should have repainted it. My Primus is getting kinda bored...
Vangelus:
I don't mind this. Not since people told me Armada Unicron has become -expensive- to purchase, now. o_o

Grats for those who do not yet have it!
Draven:
Ultimate pass. Thanks for the money save, Hasbro.
Skywave:
I don't have this toys since I wasn't collecting during A/E/C, but I still won't get it this time. The toys look pretty bad to me. I'm not a fan of the color (with clear part like the hand), and the planet mode looks really bad IMO (with the awefull mouth and not so round part).

My Primus will still be the only planet around for me
Sammael:
Nice. I don't have the Armada one, since I got back into collecting two years ago, so this is a must for me.
Omnius:
I missed out on Unicron first time around, so this is a very welcome opportunity to finally get my hands on this one.
Feralstorm:
Wow, I'm beginning to wonder how much Armada Unicron overstock there is. Back-stock Unis were already packed into Energon boxes in place of the black version. I'd assume that if this was an all-new production run, there would be a few differences, such as a subtle repaint to look more like the 1986 movie version, as that would draw in at least a few more buyers than a straight re-release would. SO, are these toys already going to have a layer of dust on them once the box is opened?

Still, can't blame Hasbro in the slightest for seeing a good opportunity to sell an old mold (especially if it's already produced overstock) and taking it. And like all them other people said, It's a great opportunity for anyone who doesn't already have one or more.

ZOMG!

NOT buying Universe Unicron emboldens terrorists!!
defstar:
Missed the first time around...will not miss again...
on_a_warpath:
Maybe they changed the Electronics.
Soundwave84:
I really want this i missed out i wonder how much it will be?
pscoop:
I should have picked this up for $15 back when I had a chance. I may hold off at first and try to find a deal on it.
Rhinox555:
Was a dark grey helmet so much to ask for? :-(
flywheels:
Very nice packaging, but a pass for me as well.
Runamuck:
Well, since everyone seems to think this is real, I will too. I never bought the original release, maybe I'll get this one. The packaging is superb.
NGW:
Having never owned the mold, but having wanted it...definitely gonna grab him.
butz:
I lost mine on a previous move, and was planning to get a replacement, so this is spectacular news for me!! As it's an existing mold (and possibly existing/left over stock) I can't imagine Hasbro is going to be out much money on this (assuming it's real; if it isn't, somebody went through an awful lot of work making a fake box just to fool a few random fanboys with a lone, grainy picture).
I'm also excited as this would give the supreme size class a spot at retail, which could be an indication of other figures in this class (Animated Omega Supreme?!)
Fit For natalie:
How the heck do you guys lose a Chaos Bringer during a move? He's pretty big

Maybe the movers lost it, or didn't bring it?

I know people who've lost toilet plungers that way. Not that Unicron reminds me of one, unless you squint....
Optimus8404:
I predict more shelf-warming action from Unicron!
Indiancowboy:
This is the one A/E/C toy i wanted but never picked up due to livign in the only city in America that had no WM, target, or TRU.

I'll pick one up full price (as everytime i say to myself 'i'll get that on clearance', I either forget, or it never makes there. I'll pick another one up on clearance for a repaint. Or just repaint the first one if I never manage to.

Hopefully it'll be G1 repainted by release date. Not likely I'm guessing, but hopefully.

Not interested in the 'classics' a/e/c repaints for the msot part though. I like the aesthetic of classics and most of the a/e/c just don't fit.

After watching Animated season finale, i think an Omega Supreme Animated MIGHT actually look ok with classics figs if it's not THAT rounded.
saberconvoy:
Well the only thing better than that is the BW Neo unicron.
Rodr-Evil:
Cool I need one Unicron.
a person:
This is fantastic! I missed out on the original release.
Optimus747:
Excellent! I never got the Armada one, and don't want to spend $100+ on one from eBay, so this is perfect!
ThundeR-CrackeR:
Yaaay !
Now ill be able to own a brand new Unicron, where the batteries arent corroded !
MetroBoy:
An absolute MUST for everyone that didn't get The Armada version.

I'm a little disapointed that he doesn't have different paint apps, though. I don't know to many people that would mind not having a transparent left hand and chest on this guy. I guess it just justifies more of us getting a little grey, orange, yellow, and silver paint to do him some justice. I wonder if you can RIT dye clear plastic to make it solid grey? Probably not.

He must have escaped into another continuity.

You'd be surprised. Classics and Cybertron, seem to share design styles, similar sort of construction, only lacking the line-wide gimmick of the Cybertron line.

That's why Cybertron toys generally work so well with Classics, outside of obvious homages like Armorhide (Huffer).
Indiancowboy:
I should say armada/energon. I actually have an even bigger hole in my awareness where cybertron exists. I'll rectify that...right now.

The resources section of this website is amazing.
dark69:
i did not get him last time so i'm very happy about this just wish they would do him in blue and green
Rayzilla Prime:
Pass. I've got Armada Unicron, and even if it had a different paint scheme (which it looks like it doesn't), I'm not getting him when I could get several others. I guess it's cool for some people who missed out several years ago.

I thought the Armada Unicron was G1 show accurate enough for my taste. Besides, I'm happy with the fact that not only did I get him as a Christmas present, I'm glad I got an actual Unicron toy (that's transformable).
Dolza_Khyron:
i don't know, i'd love to have one sealed...
The Madness:
Do Hasbro actually keep an 'Overstock' of production items? I figured they just discounted over produced items.

It does seem a little unusual that the item is relatively unchanged, given collector's tendencies to jump over even minor variations of a good toy.
(Yes the world doesn't revolve around collectors..... and the mold has been recoloured a few times, and collectors often waited for clearence pricing. Just thought it unusual.)

I like to think they get buried in the desert like all those E.T. games
nemisispringer:
well im not goin to buy it but i think its gr8 hasbros released it under universe ive been displayin mi unicron with my classics anyway and now i can say hes actually part of that continum i think they should do the same with e downshift tbh
AnimatedFan:
Nice to see him being reissued.

For one thing, he fits TF Universe far better than many would think.
Two, it's a nice chance for those who missed, to finally get their chance.
Third, Unicron shelfwarmed initially here, but then quickly disappeared.

I wonder what other figures they'll bring out? Maybe RID Prime and Magnus? :-D
Lasbrook:
Really nice, i too wasnt collecting during the AEC period (bad cg and humans/minicons turned me off before the series apparently got good) so i may have to pick this up. I'd still really prefer the Energon repaint tho.

Oh and everyone's mentioned it but can anyone tell me when/why unicron got so expensive? I could have swore he was still pretty cheap last i checked a few months ago.
Johnator:
I also wasn't collecting the first time around and I plan on picking him up. Boxart is a nice bonus too.
blakmajik:
If it's not too expensive Hasbro may have solved my shopping-for-friend-birthdays needs. I know a few people who would like this, although I already have my own.

Can't speak for anyone else, but when I say "lost" I mean lost posession of it, and not lost track of it. On that particular occassion, I was moving away from an ex girlfriend, and due to the circumstances, I had to leave a lot of stuff behind (including virtually all of my AEC TF figures, including Unicron and Primus).
Galaxy Convoy:
Meh, big ol' pass.

Unless this is overstock being rereleased, which it probably is, it wouldn't have killed Hasbro to repaint it.
Metal Chaos:
got my unicron for christmas back when armada was still on TV. This is good for those who didnt get then or during energon. Lame they didn't give him a G1 deco and even lamer they made him a Decepticon.
G1Wheeljack:
Interesting that he's being packaged as a Decepticon when he never really has had any alleigance. I'm almost tempted to pick this up or even swap it(but I'm much better that as to stoop so low)as the spring loaded chest cannon on mine is broken & I have to use a paper clip to hold it in place.
ThaConqueror:
If I has the cash, I shall buys him. Missed out on the previous versions, so I'll do my best to buys this version.
MaikeruSan:
This figure is ok. I just want to say wait till you see it on a clearace rack. Its not worth the price.
138 Scourge:
Mmmm. Nah.

Already got the one, I'm good.

Then again, maybe my son needs one.
Aberration:
The funny thing is, if Hasbro had just recolored Dead End, I would've considered picking this up I'm glad that new collectors will be able to get this guy without resorting to eBay though.
REDLINE:
not surprised at all at the release, however, color me befuddled at it not getting any effort whatsoever put into it. I mean, if it was recolored in any way at all, then they could get people who already own either version of this mold to buy again, but as it is, only new folks will. Considering what a shelf-warmer it was, they need to expand his sales probability by as much as they can.
General Tekno:
The thing I find REALLY funny is that there's people who are practically begging Hasbro to recolor some small aspect of the figure JUST to give them an excuse to buy it.

... I look at it this way - Hasbro's producing an OPTIONAL figure for people. If you have Unicron, don't buy. If you don't the option is available.
