Transformers Universe Supreme Class Unicron

The Transformers in the Universe line (and any nearby tasty-looking planets) had better look out! This grainy picture from ACToys shows that everyone's favourite Lithone eating Transformer, Unicron, is getting a rerelease in the Transformers Universe line! As far as can be seen from this image, Unicron is largely unchanged from his original Transformers Armada release. This, if genuine, will be a good chance to pick up Unicron if you missed out on him when he was originally in stores.

...What? It was obvious, and it was there...you know you were thinking it too, don't deny it...
DJW107PRIME:
I snoozed last time so this is golden for me. Yeah I want it and word is it'll be more 1986 accurate.
influence82:
I hope that it is repainted differently than previous versions closer to the 1986 Movie. the rumors say that it will be a Toys R Us Exclusive. It is a good thing because it will be in a lower production number to balance the limited demand. If it is a store exclusive, it will least likely be put on clearance. The price is the main deterrent that keeps the demand down. If it was produced in limited numbers than the price would not matter.
JOHNDILLINGA:
Well based on the clearer pic in the e-bay auction, and looking at mine they both look the same, I don't see any visable changes to the figure. Which means it's vitually old stock.

I know I was talking to people at work and we were hoping the final product would be '86 movie acurate in deco but Hasbro has yet to enlighten us.

Judging from the pic on the front page and the auction, nothing is different. I guess it's the same paint job. Do you work for TRU?

Same here. Not bitching, just a bit perplexed at Hasbro's decision. Why market to the few when you can draw in everyone? Hell, I'd take a Unicron in a G1 color scheme over the Armada and black Energon ones I already have any day.

And I think's it's kinda funny Toys R Us appears to have been expecting a different one from the one they had to clearance out for $5 to get rid of. And now they're gonna get more of it.
Railguard:
Hasbro, or whoever it is behind this, seems to really be screwing some things up. I don't get the mentality behind this.

Aaahh...that kinda sucks. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to go to any peticular store to buy him. A Target store exclusive would have been just fine with me, as Target isn't too far away, but as it is, there's really no chance for me to get out to a TRU, let alone be able to find one when I get there, as the TRU that's closest to me is very hit or miss when it comes to TF's. As for the deco, I personally don't see it changing from the original, as the box-art doesn't seem to have any differences. Hopefully we still get a Fallen toy in the Universe line, as the Energon Overload repaint that was planned at one point has apparently been scrapped due to the mold degenerating.

It's a very smart decision, imo. Now that the movie and Animated have brought in more to the franchise, they're going to release a toy that many would get. Not only are there going to be new fans buying them up, but some of us fans who, for one reason or the other, didn't get him back during Armada are getting a second chance at doing so, and at retail price. It's not like it's stoping them from making something new.

Behind what? Rereleasing a great, highly popular figure that hundreds of consumers missed out on the first time around? Not to mention even more who have (thanks to the Movie) just joined/rejoined the fandom and want to catch up on some gems from the past decade?

Makes perfect sense to me.

I, for one, am very happy, as I missed out on this fig and I am extatic it's seeing re-release.
Star Sabre James:
I am glad that people who didn't/weren't able to get it the first time now have a chance. Since I have both the A and E Unicron, I will (for the first time) pass on this classics figure.

Also, since the person who is selling the Unicron on Ebay is in mainland China, I am starting to think this might be a new production run.
Dinobot Nuva:
Here's hoping Hasbro sets it all straight at Comic-con, I'd like to know -why- they would bring him back unchanged, aside from the whole "revitalization" of the brand via the movie hype and animated and what not. Ah well, I dig.

Fit For natalie:
Most of the people who this toy is intended for couldn't tell the difference between Armada Unicron and G1 Unicron. Hasbro can save themselves so money they can better use elsewhere.

Besides, he's the same exact character in both universes, and theoretically can look any way he wants to.
Starkenator:
As a G1 collector who was reintroduced to collecting through the movie line this is great news. Now I can pick him up for a reasonable price.
Fosterlager:
I hope they toss in some new extras, like a stand for planet mode, maybe with a voice chip with some movie phrases in Orson's voice. Since Hasbro bought back the broadcast rights, hopefully that's something they have done for the Anniversary, as they have done with big-ticket re-releases like 20th DVD MP Prime and 25th Anniversary G1 Prime.

And it's really a shame that DON's boxart wasn't reused. It was one of his best boxart pieces.
GreenScream:
USA Edition from Takara with G1 accurate paint deco? Could happen.

Might pick this guy up....

when he is discounted.

This! Great idea! Hasbro, get on it!

-airfox (who'd love a Unicron that says "for a moment I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron. But now, you shall witness ... it's dismemberment!")

Yes! Great idea!

"I...am Unicron."
"I have summoned you here for a purpose."
"Destiny... you cannot...destroy...my...destiny!"

It's great for eveybody that missed out the first 2 times, but again, why appeal to the few when you could change it and hook everybody? Sure it would cost to change the paint scheme, but above all, Hasbro is out to make money. And sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

Then it wouldn't matter if it was in a G1 color scheme rather than Armada.

Don't forget "Proceed..... On your way to oblivion."

Always loved that line.

Don't bump old News and Rumors threads unless you actually have something to add to the thread.

The most likely answer is that they sold out, or were moved to other branches of TRU.

Try asking in the Ohio sightings sub forum.
