Man Powerglide sure is looking good!
Sso02V:
I'm more amused than I should be with Sunstreaker's, since he's the only one whose artwork ends before the paper, so it looks like he's got tiny little legs. A bit displeased with the amount of dull surprise going around with their faces though.
Rumble02:
fantastic work.
REDLINE:
thing is, its not just their slack jaws, they're all just kinda standing there.
Sammael:
I don't know... they all look a bit too static and lifeless. From a technical POV, they are good, but I would have preferred something more dynamic.
NIDARAM12:
I really like the painted style and the stoic poses but something about the pics lacks "pizazz" like they are unfinished.
shroobmaster:
Well I actualy like the whole "basic pose" but I dislike Prowl's and Tankor's faces.

Cybertronian Zombies!
Valkysas:
apparently hasbro wanted them to stand lifelessly like statues.

BAD HASBRO.

I really wish prowl's face looked more prowl-ish.
Ktulu:
If the mouths were closed it'd be a lot better. Dull surprise is definitely a bad thing. Otherwise they're well done.
MACRAPTRON:
Matere is the f*ckin' man. You rock dude
Don't forget our BBQ party this Sunday or I'll kill you

theyre just...standing there?

That's apparentely how Hasbro wanted them for the packing, and to be fair, if the art was more dynamic, then much of it would end up obscured by the various other stuff on the front of the blister cards.
Hiro Prime:
Great work on the art, but the same pose for all of them looks a little bland and generic. A little more life should have been added to the poses. I know that Hasbro wants them this way but wow that's really under using the artist.

I kinda like it from the standpoint that it becomes a design element on the package. I like it way better than the dead-on face pics from the movie packaging, at least. I'm not a fan of the 'dull' look either though. Just closing the mouths, and maybe toning down the ventiriloquist dummy jaw effect a bit would work wonders.
Pauly T:
They may not look all that hot on their own, but when mocked-up on the packages as seen @ Oz Toyfair they come out quite nicely.
Lucs:
I agree with most of the posters here. I realize they are standing the way they are cuz of Hasbro most likely, but I'm just not a fan of it. I think the artwork is good and I welcome change but this just isn't cutting it for me. Glad I'm not a misb guy. I really look at the figs waaay more than the box art.
RobotoChan:
Hmmm... the artwork is certainly good, capturing a fair amount of each characters uniqueness, but as most posters here have mentioned already, the figures look lifeless

Compound that with the rather chunky 'who ate all the pies' body proportions and you end up with something that is nice, but not perfect.

Saying that, the artwork is of a quality that means I will not be displeased displaying them misb. Just wish the characters were a little more... active, for want of a better word.
Ktulu:
Definitely odd that they used an artist so good at dynamic poses for this static look.

Agreed with this %110 and everyone else who said the same thing.

lol That is the best explanation for it, imo.
Ashstar:
Hmm, these are interesting indeed but I guess seeing 'em on the final packaging with everything else should be alright, based on what we've seen so far at least.

Not as bothered by the dull surprise as much as the static stances...
Johnator:
The boxart looks really good. Well done.
alien:
fantastic!
Robogeek28:
Nice art, terrible pose......good thing I'll be opening them and throwing out the packaging eh?
mmatere:
Hey guys!
Thank you for all critiques and comments over here. As most of you guys I wanted more dynamic stuff too but for this line Hasbro wanted this kinda of static pose and with more focus on head and chest. That why I didn't draw the legs also..
Those are the fist wave, on the next ones I tried to make them with more facial expressions, and changing a little bit the static poses.. I think it will help a lot. Let's see.

Well that's it. Gonna try to reply and post more stuff as son as I can.

One more time thank you guys for your time here and I'm looking forward to seeing you in Cincinnati! =D
Hiro Prime:
Dude, you're going to Botcon? Sweet. You doing sketches there?

Yep. Sure thing! =D
IronicHide:
Huge applause, party trumpets and ticker tape all round for mmatre.

I certainly don't mind the solid poses, the interpretation of things like inner-elbow ball-joints on Prowl and the alt-mode details on Tanktane are beautiful.

Again, well done, and thanks for replying to us!
microclone:
its great to see actual art on the boxes. quite gritty and i like the way there is licence which 'chunkifies' and streamlines the toy for the picture, i have always liked the way the toys were represented differently on the boxes and cartoon for G1, whereas most Tf fans seem to hate it that the toys/art werent point for point representations, that happened in the later CGI toons and for the worse, id argue!
Ezilla82:
I never know his artwork intil now, but still it would be cool to see them in action poses so that on the package, they dont look like a bunch of bricks. On the other hand his artwork his impressive to say the least.
onesock:
I really like them. Too bad Hasbro wanted them in a slack-jawed, static pose.

Exactly so.

LOL!

It's awesome to have a forum where the artist actually gets back to us on our concerns (um, like Deviantart, I guess). I think the poses are fine, because it lends a uniformity to the line, with them all standing at attention. The faces are kind of zombie-like... I think it's a combination of the slack jaws and that dull light effect in the eyes.

Though I do find it interesting that this art seems to present the faces as articulated masks, as opposed to flexible anime-faces like usual. A thoughtful choice.

NIDARAM12:
What exactly is so bad about static poses? A cool robot looks cool just standing there. Unfortunately most Transformers' bodies are too generic to have any sense of speed and presence unless they are contorted and flying at the screen.

I mean, wow, wave 2 is going to have Transformers in "poses." Let me guess, they are going to be:

1. A reaching out pose with giant blocky fingers coming at'cha!
2. A reaching out pose with one leg bent in the air coming at'cha!
3. A reaching out pose with one arm behind his back, coming at'cha!

Dynamic! Stunning! Breathtaking! Osamu Tezuka doesn't have **** on Transformers!

Suddenly I am reminded of that one cartoon mocking Pat Lee
Beastbot X:
Very nice. Man, I understand why they're water-marked on the larger-size images, but I wish they weren't... I'd really like to use these for my wallpaper sometime.

LOL!

True enough, though the ol' forced perspective "reaching out" is a time honoured tradition that goes back to the best of the G1 box-art images. They also had a lot of "gun brandishing" poses too, but I guess that's not in fashion anymore for the kiddies.

Valkysas:
Well, Silverbolt's box art pose is a lot better than these. his mouth is closed, for example.

Yeah, at some point you realize that there are only so many poses to put robots in. I think my absolute FAVORITE Transformers box art is the great group shots from the Micromaster 4-packs. Man, I love everything about those.
SmokescreenGT:
Overall, I really like the artwork. The slack jaws are the only real drawback for me, and I can live with static poses if I must.
Ravenxl7:
I actually really like the boxart that they've come up with for the line. The only little detail I can think of that bothers me at all are their mouths (look a little odd), but that's nothing that'll stop me from buying them. As for the static poses, I honestly don't have a problem with them. I have a feeling that if they had more dynamic poses, that the boxes and cards would be oddley shaped, though as it is they have some shape to them, but not nearly as much as Animated or some past lines. Here's hoping for some more of the artwork for this line to be put up sometime in the near future. Specifically Silverbolt, Onslaught, and Galvatron.
NIDARAM12:
I think I'm the only one who likes the open mouths and blank expressions. No, I actually prefer it. That eerie, statuesque, idol-like quality is one of the cool things about a lot of G1 Transformers art. They look like Moai or a Giant Robo/The Big O robot. It gives them a sense of mystery and robot-ness that is different from giving them eyebrows and smirks and more human expressions all the time.

That is part of what makes G1 Transformers so nostalgic to me... it was like you were looking at pictures of some kind of ancient god robot instead of someone giving you the thumbs up with a cool smile. I love the "O" Face.

That was pretty much exactly what I thought these guys needed. Even so, these are beautifully drawn and rendered.
Looking forward to seeing your stuff for the next wave, if you've got those kinks ironed out..!
Smeg:
Good work, but I'm disappointed with Hasbro's insistence on such non-dynamic poses. Don't they want their packaging to be more attractive? It's disappointing because I know the artist wanted to do better, and was readily capable of doing so.
Rattrap587:
GREAT work as usual Xará.
Bass X0:
so matere, what do you think of the toys? assuming you've actually had one in hand to use as reference.

Railguard:
