Adorable.

Am I the only one who wonders. . . What the hell is a mighty Mugg? I know they are little statue like things. Pretty much unbobbling bobble heads. But where did they come from and why are they taking over and being printed with all sorts of franchise imagery?

It's Hasbro's sweet way of cashing in on the vinyl toy crazy that most hipster kids seem to be into. Go to Urban Outfitters or read Juxtapoz magazine and you'll see half of the time there is some random modern artist making a little limited edition vinyl today that he/she painted and sell it for outrageous prices. Kidrobot is a good example of companies like these. So I guess in order to make more money Hasbro decided t take what usually an original and quirky endeavor and put franchised characters on them. Frankly I'm usually opposed to corporate moves like this, but I love these figures.

It is Hasbro riding the coat-tails of what is called 'Urban Vinyl". Little Vinyl toys that first started popping up in Japan. The have been around for quite some time but here is a link with some prime examples myplasticheart :: Designer Toys, Art Toys, Urban Vinyl Toys & Art Culture

I'm surprised you got that statement out between sips of double soy macchiato no whip, jazz fusion critiques and adjustments of your beret.

Transformers collector=corporate whore
Takara_destron:
Those are great for those who are fans of Mighty Muggs. I'm not one of them though.
Trailbreaker77:
These are cool but not my cup of tea. Kudo's to hasbro on this cash cow.
Railguard:
They look cute but I need to spend my money wisely these days.

incidently I am drinking a machiatto and discussing avant garde jazz metal country fusion at starbucks! But I digress what I meant is that Im not a fan of the commodization of underground art/musical/film movements. Music is the best, case in point the screamo explosion after bands like thursday and thrice in the early 00's. After the naturally developed sound and style became popular labels rushed to sign anyone that sounded the same this giving us bands like Hawthorne heights, metro station, etc. My point being when the big guns get a hold of it, it's usually cheapened, but in this case it's so rad it don't matter. Now I'm gonna go adjust my beret. (I'm trying to be funny not a dick just FYI, )

I'm ghlad you picked up on the sarcasm. Yeah, I feel the same way about the bastardization of franchises by Hollywood. My prime motivator for becoming a screen writer is the steady stream of poop that seems to trickle out of California film making between the odd quality movie.

So Bumblebee gets his set of "horns", but Prime and Soundwave get theirs drawn on? That seems unusual.
Scantron:
Interesting. I might pick up Megatron if I see these in person, but I need to save money for more important stuff right now and they aren't really my thing.

Maybe they had extra budget to mold those on, since Bumblebee doesn't have any accessories?
Fosterlager:
Cute enough to pick up off the shelf and look at, not fun enough to take to the register and buy.
mordecai6:
about bumblebee I'm pretty sure this is just a repaint of the yoda mighty mugg. That might be why he got horns.

Probably that, and because he has shorter legs than the others. Dunno, though. What I do know however, is that they are cute and I want them.
Grimwing:
Like I don't have enough trendy cute things hasbro convinced me to buy with the robot heroes and animated.

Enough!!! I won't buy it I tell you!!!
lieutenantjazz:
They look alright. I'll probably just pick up Prime and Megatron. UNLESS THEY COME OUT WITH JAZZ!

That's a good thought... if that's indeed the case, I'd have preferred to see the figure itself represented as faithfully as possible, and the accessories done away with entirely if necessary.

I know these have quite a following... they don't do anything for me personally, though.
qwertyboy:
they are very funy, I think they are for small kids!!!!
qwertyboy:
I think they transformers Mighty Muggs are for small kids because they have baby kind!
Bumblebee:
PHEW! I thought Bumblebee would look all kinds of cute and awesome and then I'd have to buy 'im.
BUT, yeah. These'll be great for MM fans, but I'm glad these aren't attractive to me, Hasbro ALREADY has my wallet aching . They just look kinda bland- plus, at their price point, they're extremely unattractive. I'd totally pick them up if they were smaller and cheaper, though.
lars573:
^Yeah these things are cutesey. But not $17 cutesey.
GAUGE0001:
meh, pass.

these may be okay for the Urban street kids but not for the average Joe Schmoe Collector.
I've seen Tons of other Mighty Muggs flooding shelves like: Starwars, Indiana Jones and Marvel but they are still warming shelves in every single store I have seen them in. I'm thinking if they stuck them in say places like Hot Topic, Spencers, Sam Goodies, Tower Records, Suncoast or some Skater shops, maybe just maybe they would sell better.

(I may pick up Soundwave for a DJ Friend of mine, but I'm in no rush to find it though)
Jarodimus:
Erg. I'm probably going to be forced to pick up Soundwave, at least. FORCED, I tell you. Stupid Hasbro.
samtastic:
Mighty Muggs are fantastic. They are for people who like them -- they are not transformers, but in line with the underground Japanese/European designer vinyl toy explosion. They have as much to do with Urban graffiti and avant garde japanese design as toys. Hasbro is experimenting and experimenting with a unique line of toys -- and kudos for them for trying something new...

I think it's cool that the Transformers license is getting some more love in this unique hasbro line. The fun of Vinyl toys is seeing how you can repaint (and sometimes add scuplt to) the same mold to get a totally different feel.

Mighty Mugs, themselves are a bit hit or miss. The best use very creative paint schemes to transform that basic round simple toy into different characters. Some (like the movie Iron Man from SDCC) are so beautiful that I dare not remove it from it's package. The Star wars line is mostly great. Some (like the Marvel comic line) are a bit bland and meh.

My thoughts on these 4:

Prime: Beautiful, frigging perfect. Must get! Love the gun!

Soundwave: Very nice. Must get... Love the gun!

Megatron: Nice, but they needed to rework the paint shapes on the head to aproximate Meg's unique angular head shape. Could have been done better, still getting.

Bumblebee: Why did they make his legs tiny? And I wish they lost the horns -- you don't need them if you do a good enough job with paint illusion. The fun of mighty mugs is keeping the shape consistent and changing paint... Probably not get this.

That said, I like the Mighty muggs Galactus...

I hope they do classic combiners in this line (devastator, superion, bruticus) -- even Metroplex would look SWEET!

I understand this aint for everybody, but I loves Mighty Muggs!
knightwing:
those are just too cute, gonna have to be lookin for em. prolly have to get 2 each though, so my son can play with one lol.
DecepticonNews:
The tf mighty muggs seem like they are the best out of all the series. Soundwave and Megs are really cool, but Bumblebee, well his smile freaks me out
DeceptiKreep:
I had a dream that I was at Target, bent down to look at some things on the bottom shelf in one of the toy aisles and, to my surprise, found a Soundwave hidden behind a bunch of things.

Really looking forward to these coming out. I want to buy them and put them on my desk at work.
Zaraxion1021:
Ohh!! Nice. I may even try to get these. They all look so good especially Soundwave.
StarSaber79:
They look pretty cool but they cost to much.
