A posting on the TF08 forums shows us in package pictures of upcoming Universe releases Leo Prime, a repaint of Cybertron Leobreaker, and Overload, a repaint of Cybertron Defense Scattorshot, which was already used for Universe Classics Dropshot. A picture of the back of the Leo Prime box reveals that it is meant to be in line with the Beast Wars tributes. Have a look by clicking on the image on the left.

a person:
The back of box image shows that Leo Prime is meant as part of the 'Beast Wars Series' Universe toys.
Orion_Prime48:
Overload= Dropshot looks better imo and they sure like repainting that recently lol

Leo Prime= still looks crappy but I imagine hed look better than Leobreaker when combined to Optimus
Beastbot X:
So Leo Prime is Lioconvoy in the BW comics series. Nice fanboyish mention of "The Pack", there.
cheetorBWORG:
Bleh, I don't like how they put this in the Beast Wars continuity. It's a Cybertron mold, and it has an Autobot symbol... Beast Wars were 99% Maximals.
Acid Wing:
Interesting, so Leo Prime, I guess is a pre-Lio Convoy? Cool reference to IDW's BW series. Dunno if I should buy him or wait for the inevitable Razorclaw repaint *prays*

Overload is super pass for me. Dropshot is still shelfwarming in the stores here as I speak (even though I think he's great).
soundwaveCA:
Cool though after Dropshot I gotta pass on this one.
Bgrngod:
I'm digging the paint app on Overload. I can see myself giving in and picking that up if I run across it at the store. Full pass on any Beast Wars stuff though...
Dolza_Khyron:
i'd be all over overload if it was a decepticon! lol!!!!!

leo prime is cool though.
Skylock:
Will pass on these, Dropshot was better IMO.
Scourge_151:
Leo Prime is growing on me, I can't see the point of Overload
Weirdwolf:
I don't like the fact they've put this in with Beast Wars. I mean, the mold is not even from that era. Don't put graphics and stuff on the box to misrepresent what it is. If this is supposed to be Lio Convoy, then use the Lio Convoy mold, don't use a crappy one that didn't sell well the first time it was released. This is the 25th Anniversary line, if you're going to release characters like this, then at least give us the mold they're supposed to be. End rant.

Hasbro are just not touching their old molds from before Armada. And the only recent Armada mold is Inferno from the movie line repainted from Red Alert.

Given that, and that they want a Beast Wars era character, this mold was used. There are G1 characters who now have new toys using Cybertron and Energon toys so this is hardly a unique case.
Spiderus Prime:
Leo Prime's Bio is half in the picture.
Chaos Convoy:
I don't mind them saying it's a BW char. I DO mind that they slapped an Autobot symbol on it and called it a BW char though.

Alcohol and reprolabels will solve that if I buy it.

Yup. If the proper information had been given to the proper people (if the decision to make him BW was made early enough) this little nitpick could have been fixed easily (it's not like he's got a molded symbol on there). Would have saved a paint op, too, as Maximal symbols are typically only one color.
netkid:
Does he still have electronics?
kwickstrike:
i just flat out dont like repaints. especially ones of figures that arent THAT great to begin with
General Magnus:
I still hope I can get Overload because I´m a sucker for military style Autobots even if they are mere repaints.
neospark1:
I like Leo Prime. I think it is a sad state of affairs that Hasbro is releasing Cyclonus still nearly half-painted (wings/face/head).
Edgewise:
So what are the red things in plastic wrap? Looks like a jet, a red repaint of E.Stormjet or U.Cyclonus?
Brave Magnus:
Leo Prime'x box art is cool. Other than that i pass on both repaints.
Railguard:
Pass on the repaints but Hound and Cyclonus, I have to get!!!!!
Fosterlager:
I'm content with Leobreaker and Nemesis Breaker.
Eric:
I'll buy Leo Prime, only because he's labeled as part of the Beast Wars series.

Dammit, Hasbro, quit picking on us Beast Wars completionists!

I've been looking at that too, and I've realized it's actually just the Takara repaint of Powerglide. You can see the nosecone and engines. Seems a little small sitting there, but it is transformed oddly.
Rodimus_Prime88:
Overload?? bah..screw that name....i'm buying him and renaming him Hardhead....
Omegatron1:
Can this mold of Leobreaker also combine with Cybertron Prime? I'd think a bit harder about picking him up for that, if the colors match either of the Prime decos.

Yes. I find it quite drowl that Leo Prime bears an Autobot symbol. Still, becuse of this I will allow this Bot to be in robot mode and grant him some shelf space. Overload? Not a high priority.
lastsonofzod:
You know, oddly I'm finding Leo more and more appealing....the actual toy's red plastic is a good deal less migraine inducing than the stock photos were. I might just have to get him to lead my Autobot forces....I just wish he'd been white instead of red...oh and Razorclaw is Definitely seconded! Come on Botcon! Don't let us down
protostar8:
What a greedy bas****!!! They have 2 Hounds and 3 Cyclonus's. Leave some for everyone else....
Nice to see that they are out though...

Don't mob the walmart just yet, guy. That photo was taken in China.
Takara_destron:
Do be wanting both
Rodr-Evil:
I like that Leo Prime repaint.
SilverDragon:
I seriously wish that Leo Prime had Maximal insignias on him. He's being sold as a Maximal, dammit! Give him the relevant faction symbols!

I get the feeling that reprolabels has found a reason for more stickers.
Autovolt 127:
pass on both. dropshot>overload
Autobot Burnout:
Not really interested in Lio Convoy, don't own Cybertron Prime nor do I care about the combining thing looking better (I already got Armada and Energon Prime combining all over the place as it is!)

Overload would be a must buy for me...if I hadn't gone and bought Dropshot already. I like Dropshot better anyways, even if he lacks 8-bit camo.

...you're kidding right?

Leobreaker was notorious for being one of those "aw shit I can't find him anywhere!" figures when he was released, hell check Epay NOW to see how much he's going for, the prices have barely gone down since his release.
leobreaker, Toys Hobbies, cybertron starscream items on eBay.com

Its the 25th Anniversary, we're celebrating ALL eras of Transformers, Overload is a Micromaster and Leo Prime is based on a (as far as America goes) comic only character.

I don't think it's half-painted really, but more like it's yet another case of using the incorrect shade of gray to produce the toy. IIRC, Hasbro was supposed to have this "problem" fixed before Cyclonus going to full production (so's he'd have at least a more coherent look.) Apparently, the email got lost along the way...

Still, Hound and Cyclonus are going to join the little mob of Classics/Universe toys growing on my available display shelves. Overload is a total pass (c'mon, two repaints of the same mold without a retool/remold within something like three waves apart?!?). As for Leo Prime, even tho' it does look good it would have been neat to see a Lio Convoy color scheme on that mold instead of a Optimus Prime one. Or even a full-sized G1 Razorclaw after the legend-class repaint. But as it is it's a pass for me.

Smokescreen/Silverstreak and Acid Storm/Starscream come into play on that one too :/

yovnocrats:
The problem is fixed, the production Cyclonus and Nightstick figures have that gray sprue swapped out for the correct purple one.
LightningZERO:
Leo Prime will be mine!

True that. But, Silverstreak/Smokescreen are repaints of characters that have been around since the start of the franchise, unlike Decepticon Dropshot and Overload who seem to be original Universe characters (the originals didn't even look anything like the molds.) Acid Storm was *probably* a filler character made purely for fans of Seekers that have been asking (begging?) for obscure Seeker repaints in a main line. And Starscream, well it is Starscream...

Personally, I'm all for the threeway Prowl, Silverstreak and Smokescreen repaints. And if Hasbro ever decides to do a Sunstorm out of Starscream or a G2 Ramjet out of his original Classics mold, I'll probably pick that one up too. Guess I just don't like out-of-nowhere characters as much as other fans (although Heavy Load is kinda cool...)

Cool if they did fix it before the production run(s). But looking at that picture on the first page of Cyclonus, I seem to see two shades of gray on there. Probably just my eyes playing games with me. Again.

But, neither company paints stuff unless they really need to, especially when parts are represented as silver on prototype photos but end up being unpainted silver or grey plastic. They've been doing this for years and I don't see why we're all suddenly moaning about it this year.

Universe Dropshot is meant to be Generation 1 Micromaster Dropshot. Funnily enough the mold's original Cybertron colours looked more like Dropshot's, but other than being too similar to his old deco, it's not very realistic for Universe's mandate of being an interim line while the Movie line isn't running.

We don't know who Overload is until we read his bio.

Acid Storm is meant to be one of the Rainmakers from the episode "Divide and Conquer".

I wasn't to sure for Dropshot, but thanks for the clear-up (colors threw me waaaaaay off.) Acid Storm's origins are easy to guess from his bio. Or if you can dig around enough to find a G1 generic Seekers page on the net. Heh. As for Overload, hopefully he won't be G1 Overload (from transport to missile rack and back? )

QFT. On top of that, neither company has done full on paint jobs for retail toys ever, so it's not a recent trend either.

Peacemaker:
Leo Prime? An easy recolor which doesn't resemble the real Lio Convoy at all IMO.

Well usually I'm not that enthousiastic about Hasbro recolors so it's not suprising lol.
tfarecool:
i dont like the Leo Prime repaint or the Overload, but the real thing that interests me is the Inferno pic on the bottom of that box, Inferno is THE coolest Voyager from Universe and Movie...
