 | | | New Hasbro Transformers Universe Webisode Online | | Posted on 11-11-2008 at 01:41 AM by Cataclizm1 | | Hasbro has updated their Monkeybar webisode section with a new Transformers Universe animated clip! The clip is an interesting mixture of the Classics Universe and G1 characters that retells the origin of the Transformers arrival to Earth. Check out the clip here, and share your thoughts in our ongoing discussion.

I think the ark crash landing by a modern freeway is a hilarious slap to g1 continuity.
But I guess it works since the movie autobots didn't have to lie dormant for millions of years under a dormant volcano. Just crash and go.
Even though the prime is'nt cullen the classics prime transforming gave me chills.
I would watch this, as its a good compromise to get highly detailed cell robots again. As opposed to constantly underdetailed but fast moving robots.

The only thing good about it is that it looks cartoony enough to get younger and new fans to actually know some history about Transformers. | I doubt they mean for it to be set in any existing G1 continuity.
Railguard:
Ok. A few screw ups in this. One, the Ark crashed in "modern" day? Thats wrong, at least as far as the original story goes. Next, they show Prime's "Trailer", which they still as of today, have yet to make. Next, they show Prime with pipes which they did not make Prime in the Universe line. The cartooning was eh, but it was, I must admit, great to see the cartooning inspired by the original and I would love to see a cartoon (with better artwork) on the tv. And did anyone notice Jazz was in the background? I hope they make a mold of him soon.
DecepticonNews:
That was an awesome introduction to the universe line, even though some didn't look like their Universe or Classics mode. I would like to see more movement though, it was very corny on the drawing.
red00wolf:
I almost want to say that they made that so we would lose intrest in a universe cartoon.
(fans)Wtf was that crap!??!?. (hasbro)O you dont like it? well we tried gtfo.
I know better but...hell did you just see that crap?!
that being said it dose seem to be for 5 to 8 year olds.
ThunderZap:
i saw it and thought i was kinda "commercial-ly" (sp?).

And maybe Ratchet too. I bet that is Hasbro's way of telling us the toys are already on their way to the stores!
Deceptigtar:
ugh that was bad, bad voice over and come on, when the ark crash landed, none of those cars stopped to be like WTF?!
almightyorb:
Some people are taking this piece of marketing way too seriously.
Consider the target audience. Think of it as introducing a version of the G1 storyline to an 8 year old.
Also, "Webisodes" are really just meant to push a product and increase the amount of time you spend on a site. They are not trying to expand the canon, and probably not trying drop secret hints to the super fans of new figures they will be producing.
And to the responses of "They should do one with better animation, preferably a new tv series." Do you even understand the differences in scope and production costs? Even with just elaborating the articulation of the characters in the Flash animation means a significant increase in time and money.
This is obviously just some promo material created to augment the content of the Hasbro site in order to get more page views and sell more toys. Nothing more.
Unbunch your panties, please.
Starscreamschin:
beyond terrible
Acteon:
...Holy crap on a cracker...
Yeah, that was just... awful. Just awful.
Incidentally, even 5-8 year olds know bad animation when they see it.
Mr Dumas:
This is not toy related, it is brand building for KIDS to understand the basics of the Transformer story that they didn't get enough of from the movie. This has nothing to do with products.
G1Wheeljack:
Pretty cool, I'm looking foward to more.
siekone:
That my friends is pure rubbish! That sucked all kinds of different ways.

This has nothing to do with products. | Agreed on both accounts. It's obviously aimed at the target age for their product (young kids). The Hasbro Team has been to enough BotCons and has had enough interaction with the fans over the years to know what type of video product would need to be put out to entertain the fandom. The purpose of this video is to sell product and increase hits to the website from that core target group. In turn, increase sales. It's a quick, simple tool that's being used to attract kids. Not everything on Transformers.com is for us. Very little of that website is actually targeted towards us.
Laser_Optimus:
Wow... uhh... yeah. Did not like that at all...

moar plz. | I couldn't have put it better myself.
webz:
I thought it was brilliant and succinct. It's not Akira, but it runs beautifully, even on the chugging snail computers at work. I wish there was a Classics/Universe soundwave (I know that Hasbro considers the re-release in 2006 "Classics" but it really isn't)
Tman978:
I cant see it. I'm cursed with whatever lame flash the Wii has.
CryoPrime:
Why was only Prime's head and crotch and Bumblebee outlined in one clip? While Ratchet and the others don't have black lines? lol It was okay.
swarlock:
Interesting webpisode.
I want to see more.
rizuan76:
Simplistic but ok. I like it & it suits the main purpose of it's target audience, the younger kids.
megatronkicksas:
I have proof that this is a promo for universe heres the proof. DULL SUPRISEI call this pic "I want crab cakes".
Dark_Convoy:
That was a can of fail juice.
Brave Magnus:
It was fun. ^^ Could be better but its ok for an advertising. ^^
Nocturn:
That was... ugh.
DarkKnightPrime:
That was garbage.
protostar8:
It's nice that they are trying to do something like this, but I guess they should have tried harder. It was aweful looking. Even the poorly funded shows on Cartoon Network have better animation than that...
Vangelus:
I should post the Transformers flash animation that I made when I was 16.
Because it only loses to this in drawn detail. o_O
Chaos Prime:
The animation was ok, but I hated the voice acting. OOOOh wow did it sound like he reading off of a script.

i want to smash this thing with the ass hammer, it was BAAAAD! Only the still animation was good, when things moved all bets were off. Ive seen MUUUCH better made by fans, to bad the company who friggen owns it, cant do shit with it. A group of fans, needs to work on a really good webisode, animation, just as a we can do better, and we dont have all the hi-techy stuff hasbro does. Its nice they are doing something but it could have been done better, by pretty much anybody.

How much did this cost anyone here to watch? hmmm... zero. Did anyone put a gun to your head to watch it? hmmm... nope. Was this meant as a legitimate cartoon to entertain bored 30-somethings? hmmmm... Nope. Did Hasbro hit its bulletpoints of brand recognition, product placement, and catering to the intended demographic? hmmm... most definitely.
Again, bravo to Hasbro.
PS...
Also, everyone in the USA, make sure to remember to thank a veteran today for helping to protect our freedoms and our country. Any vets on the boards? if so, I say thank you for your service!

Also, just because something is meant to be for free doesn't mean it's okay to put out some cheap garbage and call it a day. Quote:

| And that has nothing to do with this topic and seems to be merely intended as a distraction. Quote:

As I said before, even Takara's cheaply done, for-free pack-in animated DVD "episodes", online animations and two-page comics put this thing to shame.
And I'm not really a fan of Takara-initiated fiction.

We got classics Soundwave in the form of the Soundblaster mold.

Let me guess, summer intern project?

Although it's still awesome that they're doing this, and I hope it improves in latter additions.

Hrmmmmmm...um...that was...kinda weird.
It reminded me of the old books on tape for kids. With the corny, generic narration, stock sound effects, low-budget art, and wimpy/silly stories. I'd rather have seen something along the lines of the "It Was Always Real To Me" animation that Hasbro put up several months ago.

Fans do stuff for FREE and do better than this. And of course, marketing put money for some agency to make it. They should've paid some fans and gotten better results.
