First Look: New Transformers Universe Whirl, Sandstorm and Optimus Prime On Ebay

I wonder if they plan to do the same to Superion? I'm surprised they aren't attempting to throw the train-bots in somewhere either. Anyone else find it a little odd if target gets all the limbs, and walmart the torso?

I hope as time goes on they see financially fit to keep on rereleasing scouts like this, and deluxe repaints. =D Though to be honest, the only way I'd pick that prime up is if it was in a 2 pack with a mold I still needed. He's been done to death already, and we need some other molds to get re-exposure and variety. Stop worrying about flooding the market with tanks, and start worrying about overdoing primes. Though I can see the push on Cybertron and Armada with G1 coming, and the deluxe 2 pack at KB. 1 from every age but Energon, RID, BW, BM.

Though I guess it helps pacify customers who think they are buying optimus for a neice or nephew or grandson and don't know quite 'which' to get. Why not do the same to cybertron blurr? G1 nod, Cybertron nod, and Armada nod all in one, plus his animated counterpart will be popular.

They'll probably be movie scout exclusive repaints, if not a box set of some kind later. If it's boxset, that'll be Universe/Classics, if it's movie scout, no clue if that still counts as same line.

As for the Onslaught issue. There's the RID renamed for that nod. Call him "Mega-Octane" or Reuse the energon "Barricade" name.
I tend to have a feeling they'll be doing the same to a jet gestalt, with "Jetstorm" as the name of the middle bot. Already nod G1 with Silverbolt, now nod Energon.

if anything it will give me some suitable kitbash fodder to work with for classics g1 bruticus superion and devastator

i am still amazed that we haven't seen Laser Prime redone in this deco scheme. it seemed like a shoe-in for a store exclusive during the first Universe run since the mold had just been used in RiD and the Japanese reissue.

..and that Cab mold is like 10x better than Bendy Prime

Bendy Prime? Again? REALLY?

It's an awesome mold, and that's a nice deco. But wow, they're really gonna beat that horse until there's nothing left but powder, aren't they? I'm surprised this mold isn't an indistinct blob by now.

Prime repaint looks no good. The blue hip guards look so random with the all silver crotch and waist. Weird.

And yeah it's about time they retire that mold. Geez.

I would really like to get a hold of those remolded cyber planet keys (for some reason, the keys makes more sense activating gimmicks than mini-cons to me), but I haven't been able to justify buying extra copies of Prime or Demolisher to get one.

Seeing as I haven't collected for long...how many repaints/redecos has this "Bendy Prime" had. And what are these other repaints of the energon combiners people talk about?

Let's see...there was the original Armada one, a variant with an Autobot symbol, Nemesis Prime, Ultra Magnus, Cybertron Optimus Prime with planet markings, Cybertron Optimus Prime without planet markings, a gold Lucky Draw, and a clear one. I believe Japan also got a different black one and maybe a couple more exclusives out of it, but it's been a while and I don't remember exactly. I think there are a couple of variants I'm forgetting too.

These are a pass for me.

I'd love to get a replacement Helicopter for my Bruticus, since it was damaged in the move (Lost one of the rotor blades). Hell, I would probably pick up the complete set if the redeco'd all the members.

The Optimus... eh, we've seen this mold redone so many times already. I kinda wish they had included an Overrun painted up to look like his G1 rifle instead of the key.

They look nice, liked the new redeco for Optimus. They ought to make a Universe Bructicus.

Oooh, the *still to this day* best deluxe sized Prime in G1 like colors, not bad, might get if i see its a wide release.

The combiner limbs look real nice also(please Hasbro repaint Cybertron Barricade in better colors, and maybe if possible, give him a non Leia like head heh)

Here's my hopes for a potential Gestalt gift-pack:

-Mega-Octane- Green/Orange/Gray Truck-Tank-like-thingy
-Whirl- Gray/Blue Helicopter
-Brawl- Green/Gray Tank
-Sandstorm- Brown/Orange Helicopter
-Armorhide- Blue/Gray Tank

Also, since we are getting a non-reissue Prime in this line, it'd be nice, imo, to also get a Megatron of some kind. A new Voyager sized mold of Armada Megatron would be awesome, but I'd settle for a repaint of his G2 Hero mold.

Brawl would have to be interestingly different then with those colors, seeing as how those're the same that Kickback sported, here here to Armorhide though.

I'm hoping they won't for no reason make Whirl and Sandstorm 'cons all of the sudden though, give us more bots or nothing else at all if you want an entire combiner (maybe an Autobot and a Decepticon one...).

Also, we NEED a Mega Octane out of Ultra Onslaught, its like one of the most obvious repaints from the molds available in that line right now.

...and you forgot there was also headlight color varients in Armada (silver and Yellow IIRC) and i think a crystal exclusive.

They could either give him a more olive green color, or even go as far as giving him a camo pattern.

The reason I think their using the names Whirl and Sandstorm for these two is because they probably couldn't get the name Vortex, and Snadstorm makes more sense for a helicopter than Swindle does. That and they could be using both for these so they can get the trademark for them, and then use them again for larger Autobots sometime later in the line. That and they could end up being Autobots anyways. These could have been testshots for the colorscheme and paintjob. Either way I'll more than likely get them. Especially if they do turn out to be in a gift set.

Personally I'd be happy with a repaint of Energon Barricade. That way he could combine. That and I'm not sure I'd buy another copy of the mold (still need to get Onslaught). Though if we hear or see a Mega-Octane repaint before I can get ahold of an Onslaught, I might either just want and get Mega-Octane, or see if I can get Onslaught as a gift from someone. My mother's already asking me what I want for Christmas, and would probably buy it now if I told her I wanted it (the wait would be a little hard to get threw, but I'd manage it). It'd be a little embarrassing to open it on Christmas day, but I've gone threw worse taunts from my sisters in the past.

If they're going to keep repainting Primes, I wish they'd repaint the Hero Prime mold (last used for Destructicon Scourge, I think) into G1 colors. I've wanted that one for years.

Ah, bendy Prime, Hasbro's little whore.... Of course that doesn't mean I won't get it. Cause I will. Another Prime to add to the collection!

I *think* that mold was on its way out, hence the lower-than-usual quality of Destructicon Scourge. Otherwise I would have expected Takara to have used it during Robot Masters.

how horribly unoriginal. I sure wish we were getting more NEW stuff. It seems like we are at the first, then it peters out the later into the line we go.

As for the Bendy Prime repaint, I do love the mold, but I'm perfectly content with the Armada version I already have. Can't see spending money on any of these really, particularly when my wallet is already stretched to the limit with the seeming ASSLOAD of Voyagers and Ultras in the Universe line! (I'm just happy that I've gotten all the deluxes thus far...)

I call shenanigans! If this is indeed called "Whirl", then when did Hasbro reaquire the trademark? Or is it going to be "Autobot Whirl" as stated here? Perhaps this guy had the name slightly wrong, or maybe hasbro slipped one past our radar in the TM dept.

you don't know that. we didn't know of these two until today. because the same mold is repainted twice, i expect there will be a new combiner otherwise if there wasn't, they would have used two different molds, the helicopter and the tank.

So you believe an Ebay seller when he says what the toys name is when the toy has never been seen or announced before and doesn't come with any packaging? Besides, a lot of people here have already said the Ebay seller is most likely wrong and that the recent trademark of "Combaticon" and the fact that these have Decepticon insignias AND the gold helicopter has a $ symbol on points to the fact that they are not Whirl and Sandstorm.

These will be Vortex and Swindle. They might have to change the name Vortex to Ro-Tor or something if they don't have that particular name but it'll still be the same character,

If Habsro is breaking out the Armada molds again here's what I want:

Hoist Swap the white for green and the brown & blue for purple, and scrub the Autobot symbol (ala Ransack) to give us a Scavenger
Wheeljhack Turn the black into red and white & yellow to black to give us Sideswipe
Demolishor Make the Brown into White, the red into green and the black into Purple to give us Sixshot

Are we SURE these are for Universe? Because last I checked, Universe (2008) doesn't even have a Scout/Basic class price point, unless these are exclusives.

I mean, its not advisable to go by whatever an eBay test shot seller says on faith alone, and then get all upset over it.

Meh, meh, and meh. I would be a tiny bit tempted to get the combiners if their accessories weren't still translucent.

I also am not a huge fan of the translucent parts. I'd be tempted to paint the accessories if I didn't already know that the paint would flake off of the translucent pieces.

Has anyone ever tried Rit Dying clear plastic parts? If your careful, it works really well on solid colors.... I just don't know what would happen to clear parts.

I think the most likely answer as others have speculated is another gift set of Energon repaints. A Bruticus to go alongside the previously released Devastator from the Classics line. Maybe as a Black Friday exclusive.

Probably just store exclusives or they are the first two of a five-pack gift set like Devastator.

Well, I do like the Armada...excuse me, CYBERTRON Deluxe Optimus Prime figure, and the G1 paint scheme does it justice. I'm definitely getting that. However, for Whirl and Sandstorm, though...

Why are they Decepticons in Universe!? They're both Autobots in G1! Dammit, Hasbro, you get the right mold for these two helicopter 'bots, but you don't bother remolding the Decepticon symbol into an Autobot symbol. Way to go...
