TFW2005 (thanks to D-Drive) has received the first images of several upcoming figures from the Universe line. These images were in the just released issue of Previews Magazine. Previously unannounced figures included Legends-class Animated Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Prowl. Although shown/mentioned at BotCon 2008, the general public now also has its first look at Storm Cloud (Universe Powerglide repaint). Finally, TFW2005 also has a better look at the just revealed Universe Treadbolt figure. Click on the image to the left for a look at all of these figures.

Neon and fluro don't mean 'Any colour I don't like'.

I'm not liking the two Classics repaints... the name reuse is great, but...

-G1 Storm-Cloud was a black and purple Grippen jet. Tailwind from the same Patrol was an A-10 Warthog, but he was blue/white with a red cockpit. Not a good hommage.

-G1 Treadbolt was blue and yellow, right... but he was a flying wing. This Alt Mode would work much better for a G1 Darkwing repaint...

I'd have preferred if they did a G1 Tailwind hommage from Classics Minicon Steelwind, a G1 Micromaster as an Ultra Figure is even a bigger overkill then making Powerglide an ultra.
You forget that they also reuse names to keep the trademarks viable and active. Otherwise we get Tankor.

As a fan of Transformers obscurity, I welcome weird homages to mostly-forgotten toys. And hey, they use whatever tooling is available.

I like the little Bumblebee, but the rest... blech. No thanks.

Possibly, but I think it bears a greater resemblance to the VF19. I'm pretty convinced the line of thought was G1 Jetfire = Macross VF => Classics Jetfire repaint = subtle Macross homage

Either way, Gotta admire Hasbro for NOT pulling some frootloopy repaint out of their butt for this one.

Optimus Sledge:
"Boo hoo, why can't Hasbro make a toyline in scale?"
They have.
"No, Legends stuff sucks."
Autovolt 127:
I like Stormcloud and Treadbolt, guess i'l pick up both.

Screw Animated legends.

Actually, I won't have fun with motorbike...at least not next to other animated toys. I haven't bought an Animated toy yet, but I have decided that I want Prowl because my Joe figures can ride him. So, in that respect, he IS in scale.
Takara_destron:
I really like Storm Cloud, was going to pass on the Powerglide mold altogether but if I get it it'll def be this version.
Treadbolt is also great too, and since I dont have Jetfire = instant purchase.

Shh...he has a "special" dictionary - he's very sensitive about it

Legends Bumblebee looks nice...it may be a purchase...
Fort Max:
I don't like any of these.
Grimwing:
holy moly. Treadbolt!! Animated Legends!! Storm Cloud!! all yes!!

Treadbolt is sweet. way to break up the red and white deco all the autobot jets seem to have with a blue and yellow voyager. It's going to be a hot seller for sure.

Still gritting my teeth over the impending release of universe. And wave 3 stuff for animated. I do need prowl and lockdown from wave one still though.
sentinal prime:
look to me that hasbro is just plain cheap when having to make new transformer they always go back to repaints now it's 3 times classic skyfire is a repaint and 3 times cybertron hotshot .

get new ideas hasbro
Fit For natalie:
Considering two of those toys you mentioned weren't actually released or developed by Hasbro...

And funny how repaints are totally unacceptable when they come from an American company. But suddenly its a brilliant idea when it comes from a Japanese company, or when they're seekers.

Besides, repaints maximize the investment they put into making the original toy in the first place. That's why repaints exist.
SmokescreenGT:
Storm Cloud looks cool. Much better deco than Powerglide. Treadbolt looks alright, but my empty wallet may cause me to pass on him.
omega ranger:
My opinion on:

Animated Legends
Didn't really think they were going to make Legends figures of these guys, but since there so cheap, I know I will buy them. Bumblebee looks real nice, and gives off a Classics vibe rather than Animated. Prime is kinda disappointing, but I do like how he doesn't look very blocky like the Legends Prime we got from Cybertron. Prowl is the only one I don't like at all, because his motorcycle mode is really bad. They really shouldn't make small Legends motorcycle figures.

Treadbolt
I find this repaint oh so interesting. I think he looks better with Storm Cloud, so he'll be a Decepticon, I can't find a insignia on him. Plus, the Universe Autobot ranks are getting crowded. He looks really weird though, like he stepped in a oil pit. Kinda zombie-like with the blue on top and black and gray on the legs and arms.

Storm Cloud
Now, I really can't think of anything to say, but I'm not really happy about this because he looks a lot like the Superion combiners. It's kinda hard to like him, and kinda hard not to. I'll have to think about him some more. His colors are so bizarre, I was staring at them for like a minute.
r'Ne:
terrible recolors.. easy pass..
shibamura_prime:
The Animated Legends look great. Go Hasbro! Keep the miniature plastic crack comin'!
Laser_Optimus:
Don't collect Legends so more for those of you who do. I do think they look nice though.

Storm Cloud looks... bizarre. It's hard not to like him as I dig the mold and all the blue and silver reminds me of one of the Superion Maximus limbs. However, the yellow really kinds of makes me go 'huh?'. I'm not sure I hate it, but I'm not sure I like it all that well either.

Treadbolt looks pretty awesome to me. I personally think the black and grey breaks up the blue & yellow really well and I love the Jetfire mold anyways.

You'll go blue in the face before people actually get it. You know this right?
Ops_was_a_truck:
Treadbolt and Storm Cloud look pretty vicious.
DisThunder:
Teadbolt might be able to pass for Classics Thundercracker. I didn't get the botcon one, mostly because I think the deluxe mold is too freakin' small for the seekers, nice as it may be.
artiepants:
Not feeling all the black on Treadshot ~ i think he would have worked much better with black upper limbs and keeping the blue with yellow accents on the lower limbs ~ having the all black limbs and blue body kind of makes him look like he's wearing a blue baby onsie in 'bot mode and that brass color they used on the upper limbs is interesting: it's a nice color i can't recall seeing on a TF before, but really clashes with the rest of the deco, especially the yellow. I just really dig the jet mode with mostly blue and the yellow accents and hints of black.

Stormcloud looks terrible tome, to patchy in both modes, and i find it generally doesn't work to have 2 accent colors (in his case the yellow and the teal) in such even amounts, 2nd accents should be really limited...

Surprsingly, those animated legends look decent, they've almost got better proportions then their larger cousins. Certainly Bumblebee has an interesting design and engineering from the scale. The aesthetics still ruin them, but decent enough. (i don't think i'll ever be able to fathom someone signed off on that Optimus Prime design: Transforms from Robot to folded up robot!)
RandomFerret:
The legends class has gotten so good, It's amazing. Remember how impressed you were at the fact that Legends Soundwave kind of looked like the full-sized version? Compare that to Prowl here.
Thundershot:
When I was at Botcon, I swear he was a lot more purple....

After the panel, I talked to one of the Hasbro guys, and asked why he was called Storm Cloud but the vehicle was an homage to Tailwind. He said they couldn't get the name Tailwind, so they went with one of his brothers. Now that he's in blue, I can really see the Tailwind in him...

Ditto here. (Though for some reason I never tired of Seeker repaints, either.) Now Hasbro, repaint someone into Squeezeplay already!
Chainclaw:
The two Universe Classics plane repaints are possible buys for me. I'll wait until I see Storm Cloud and Treadbolt photographed in the wild before making a decision though, Hasbro toy photographs can be deceptively flattering.
Grimlock_13:
Treadbolt is bought for sure. I want to say Stormcloud is as well, I just need to reevaluate my shelving space. I'm running out of room.

Legends = no.
j.a.f.o.:
Bumblebee is probably the first Legends figure I am excited about. Definitely will pick him up.
Obvious Prime:
I thought Storm Cloud was another Rainmaker.
AlanGarou:
In yet another incarnation, Bumblebee kicks ass in penny racer scale.

Maybe my display is a bit off, but those colors look way to loud to me. Im saying Hasbro should tone it down.
acave720:
I thing those classic look good.
SPLIT LIP:
The Universe repaints look okay, but not really interested in them.

The Animated Legends are cool. For such tiny things they're surprisingly detailed and Prowl looks neat. (A Prowl to scale with Voyager Bulkhead?)
angelus2402004:
Why does the paint look so bleh on the animated legends?
Pravus Prime:
Well, I'm loving Tread Bolt, despite the slightly ecclectic color scheme, I love the mold and I'll pick him up for sure.

Storm Cloud I'm on the fence about.

Probably because it is. Legends haven't exactly been given favors in terms of paint. Just look at Legends Bonecrusher. Who did he piss off to get so few paint applications?

EVERYONE.
Bumblethumper:
Since these will apparently be released in the Universe Legends line, rather than their own, I take that as a sign that they may not necessarily cover all Animated characters. But it's better than nothing.

I'm thrilled to see they chose to kick it off with Prowl and Bumblebee. That should solve a few scale problems.

A few quibbles:

Bumblebee's thighs are too meaty. Given the transformation, I don't see why they couldn't have been slimmer, and more accurate to the proportions.

Prowl would look a lot better if his upper arms were black instead of yellow. There's also something weird going on with the cheeks on his headsculpt.

Other than that, these are very cool, and should come in very handy. I hope a few other TFA and characters make this line. It's great that they've favoured smaller characters, and it'd be nice to continue this with others like Jazz, Soundwave and Swindle. Dinobots would be nice, and it would be a good scale for a transforming Headmaster head(as I am fond of repeatedly pointing out).
