Thunderwing Remolded - Japanese Black Shadow? Energon Megatron or Galvatron?

Posted on 11-13-2010 at 08:50 PM by Kickback under Universe Classics 2.0
thunderwing-remold It is slowly becoming the norm that the latest news on future remolds of Transformers figures can be found by checking out the original version's instruction booklet!

Thanks to pictures of the upcoming Thunderwing figure's instruction booklet, we see a the figure with a newly remolded head. Some have stated that the head resembles Black Shadow, the Japanese version of the original Thunderwing figure. The head sculpt does seem to be an exact match for that figure.

Others believe it is possible that it is an Energon Megatron or Galvatron homage. But the head sculpt is pretty much an exacth match for Black Shadow.

Henkei Thundercracker Mirage Ghost Starscream Knock Offs - Buyer Beware

Posted on 11-06-2010 at 05:52 PM by Sol Fury under Universe Classics 2.0
MOSCHenkeiSeekers13 Good golly gosh, as if we collectors did not have enough to worry about with knock offs and replicas of vintage Generation 1 toys, now it seems that some industrious KO maker has started replicating Takara-Tomy Transformers Henkei and Hasbro Botcon exclusive toys. Word is that the exclusive Henkei Seeker pairing - Thundercracker and Skywarp - as well as the Million Publishing Generations 2009 exclusives Electro-Disruptor Mirage and Ghost Starscream and even the Botcon 2007 exclusive Stealth Mirage are among these new Classics and Henkei knock offs. The Henkei knock offs even replicate the packaging of the originals, right down to the Takara-Tomy logos.

Unfortunately there is currently no easy identification for the Henkei knock-offs. The Botcon 2007 Mirage knock-off is a little easier to figure out, as it lacks a rubsign and the clear plastic seems to be a different tone (though that might be down to the photographer).

The word is these are currently retailing around the $30 mark, so if you see one of these toys at a suspiciously low price on Ebay, Taobao or another online source, you might want to exercise some caution. While those who've had them in hand claim the quality is comparable to the real thing, quality control varies greatly with knock-offs, not to mention that the pieces will not have been fully safety tested to the same degree as an official Transformers release. As always, "caveat emptor".

Warriors from Three Worlds Set now at TRU! Only $24.99!

Posted on 10-29-2010 at 02:22 AM by Sol Fury under Universe Classics 2.0
UniverseWarriorsFromThreeWorlds And now for a sighting in a different vein. Remember the Universe 2.0 "Warriors from Three Worlds" set, that included unaltered repacks of Ransack GTS, Scattorshot and Repugnus from Transformers Cybertron that was out at Walgreens last year (and according to 2005 Boards member mykticon among others, is still on the shelves in some places)?

Well, apparently they are now turning up in Toys R Us stores for the low, low price of $24.99. 2005 Boards member rattrap007 provided us with the first news of this oddball sighting, and 2005 Boards member Nevermore gave us the first "huh, how did that happen?" reaction of the thread. Other boards members are also reporting seeing these toys in their local Toys R Us stores.

Possibly good news if you missed out on these guys on their previous outings, although if you are in the market for them, you might want to check your local Walgreens or Family Dollar in case they are available for less.

Images of the Universe Challenge at Cybertron Three Pack

Posted on 08-05-2010 at 02:37 PM by Sol Fury under Universe Classics 2.0
20100805_84c9ae6e6ea4fdbdb334VLVOWCl2Um39 On the subject of the upcoming Challenge at Cybertron set, we've got some pictures of the new set, in hand, courtesy of HK-TF. This set, which re-releases the popular Classics Rodimus and Cyclonus as well as Galvatron, redecos each of the three to match how they looked on the 1986 animated series. For those of you wanting the Protector armor set from Fansproject but not paying out the eBay prices for the previous releases, this set is worth the price of admission. Plus you get the awesome Cyclonus and the better than most of us give him credit for Galvatron.

Buyer Beware! KO TakaraTomy Henkei Skywarp

Posted on 05-23-2010 at 11:27 AM by Kickback under Universe Classics 2.0
kosw Our dear friend S250 dropped by our forums early this morning to give us a fair warning - knock-off toys are coming! And they're coming in the form of TakaraTomy Henkei Skywarp action figures!

As you can see in our attached image, it's tough at first glance to determine the difference between an actual figure and the knock-off figure. Until a clear image or comparison image shows up, it's buyer beware time. Apparently these figures are hitting China en-masse, and will most likely be found on your favorite auction sites within this next week.

Depending on your stance on the whole knock-off toy thing, this is either great news or this is really souring news. Either way, stick to TFW2005 for more information and how to distinguish your real Skywarp from your fake Skywarp!

Powercore Combiners and Hunt for Decepticons Released in Australia

Posted on 05-21-2010 at 12:51 AM by Kickback under Universe Classics 2.0
pccyp3 Australia usually gets things before everyone else - sometimes a couple weeks prior, sometimes a couple months prior, or in the case of some toys, they only exist in Australia! And while Australia has a lot of very unique things to it (including very deadly spiders! Thanks for scaring me away from the "Land Down Under" forever Discovery Channel, who just so happens to be partners with Hasbro for their new channel "The Hub" which will be airing Transformers Prime and other old Hasbro programming, how's that for the most random crossover advertising?), they can now add Powercore Combiners to their list!

That's right - the highly anticipated Powercore Combiner 5-Packs were released in Australia! Though not on the shelves, they apparently also had some Transformer named Seaspray but wouldn't sell him because he's just too awesome to handle on any day before the weekend (though if he were named "Cosmos"....).

Powercore Combiners are scheduled for an August release in the United States.

Unknown Classics Bumblebee Repaint - Glyph?

Posted on 04-13-2010 at 10:48 AM by Kickback under Universe Classics 2.0
glyph9 Over at ACToys this little gem popped up today ... a Classics Bumblebee repainted blue, resembling OTFCC 2003 Glyph.

But where is this figure going? Is it a Universe 3.0 release? Is it a Takaratomy Gentei exclusive figure? Is it some cheaply made, will-fall-apart-when-you-breathe-on-it knock off toy? Is it a random BotCon exclusive not part of the Generation 2 fiction (note: non-G2 Autobot symbol)? With the chrome hood it is assumed to be a Takaratomy type exclusive, as Hasbro shys away from using chrome on their toys.

We just don't know. Come and speculate by hitting the discuss button!!

EDIT: This mystery repaint has been spotted on eBay. Check out the auction, with many more photos, right here!

A further auction has also been listed by TFCtoy, which seems to suggest this is indeed a test shot and not a custom. Check out the latest auction here.

Unused Inked Package Art for Unreleased Robot Heroes Victory Saber and Dessarus

Posted on 03-19-2010 at 08:21 AM by Tim Formas under Universe Classics 2.0
Transformers-Robot-Hero-Dezzaras Artist Marcelo Matere has updated his deviantART blog with inked line art that was created for the packaging for the Transformers Universe two-pack of Victory Saber and Dessarus (better known as Deathsaurus). The two-pack was part of the last wave of Robot Heroes scheduled to be released in the Transformers Universe 2.0 line and was unfortunately cancelled. A packaged version of the two-pack did surface on the internet, which shows that another set of images was chosen to be included on the packaging instead of the ones shown here.
