Updated: Rumors For The Next Transformers Animated Series Surfaces?

As the Day-Time Emmy Award winning Transformers: Prime Animated Series comes to an end in mere 4 hours time, rumors of a new Transformer Animated Series has begun to surface. Not very far from here actually… member Potato of Sister Site Tokunation is bringing us some tidbits. You guys can take it under Rumor category for the moment though… but this is what we know so far:
  • The next series will go back to 2D roots.
  • Will be aimed more towards little kids.
  • It will be lot closer to the feel of Transformers: Rescue Bots rather than Transformers: Prime.
  • Same character designer from Transformers: Prime is working for the next series but the designs are simpler.

Update: Potatoes visited TFW2005 to update us with the fact that this new info is for the replacement show for Rescue Bots rather than Transformers: Prime.

Please remember this new info will fall under "rumor" until we see evidence. But it's great for a healthy discussion though. Share your thoughts while you are waiting for the finale of Transformers: Prime - Beast Hunters

Part of me is a little disappointed because I liked the somewhat mature theme of Prime and it's going to be weird going back to a more carefree and younger audience approach after spending the past three years with 'srs business'.

But on the other hand, I like Rescue Bots, and if this gives way for more character driven arcs and less heavy plot arcs (that sacrifice character development), I think I'll grow to like it. Going to miss the designs from Prime, but... eh, it had its run, and I'm eager to see what the new show has in store.

Thanks for posting this! c:

While I do like the idea of 2d again I am not liking the younger demo. You have rescue bots for that demo, you dont need something different. I get the simpler designs based on Hasbro moving in that direction with the toys.
Reaper Cloud
Awesome! I wanted to stay away from any new cartoon after Prime ends, and this confirms that I won't be watching it.

Hasbro and the kiddies...I hope they enjoy it. Maybe it will be another 12 years before a somewhat decent Transformers cartoon is made. I guess Prime's attempt at adults was a failure in Hasbro's eyes, since they are going back to kids. Oh well. Even with Prime being only slightly focused at an adult audience, it was still playing it safe way too often.
Shockwave9227
Hmmm, while I will miss the written complexity of Prime, this could be good as Rescue Bots proves to us. The toys...ummmm, I'll wait and see to form an opinion. One thing I do hope is that the animation isn't the same as Rescue Bots.
03Mach1
To be fair, G1 has pretty simplistic designs.
Crystal Convoy
A return to 2D would be awesome. I really don't like 3D animation.
WilyMech
I am not happy with this at all. I don't mind simple designs but the younger demographic.
Mechafire
Yeah, best keep the designs as simple as possible for those upsized Cyberverse-esque toys!

Fuck this. The downward spiral just keeps on going. Well, at least I won't have any expectations and thus won't be let down like I was with Prime.
The Bucket Kitten
As with most things, I'll wait until more information comes out before jumping to any kind of conclusion.
As it stands, I'm neither for nor against the upcoming series after Prime.
Lbsammills51
Interesting. This could go either way, so I'm not inclined to lean one direction or the other until more information comes out.
kaijuguy19
Well if the writing qualities like with TFA,Rescue Bots and the new TMNT show when it comes to being a little more kiddish but doesn't talk down to the kids then I'll be fine with it. Shame that it's not really a sequel to Prime though.

I agree with this. Targeting a younger audience could mean anything but it doesn't have to mean less quality. I'm glad Jose is staying involved and simpler designs could be good too. Why do with ten lines what you can express in one?

EDIT: Where did it say it wasn't a Prime sequel. If they are keeping the same crew and the general same design (if simplified), it sounds to me like it will be a sequel show.
bellpeppers
Hmm.
Take a wait and see. Not really interested in anything aimed more at the kiddies, tho. Or 2D for that matter.
BooyakaDragon
Wasn't Animated advertised as being aimed towards the kids? If so, I have faith.
miscreant
.......and so after all the complaints about Prime, next we will have 'I miss Prime, it was better than this crap'
Sideswipe1954
when they say "same crew" do they mean voice actors or behind the scenes?

I agree. The problem with kid shows they talk down to kids well basically think that children are stupid. I have seen a few shows that do that. It can be kiddish but least have decency to treat the children with respect.
bellpeppers
Now that I think about it, I thought GO! was gonna be the next installment- just re-dubbed.

They mean writers.

I'm not liking the news, but I'll keep my mind open.
Coffee
Yeah, it's definitely too soon to say anything, but I hope when they say aimed for kids they are thinking the same way animated was, and not rescue bots. I am up for the 2d animation despite preferring 3d, but really if the next show is supposed to be another rescue bots (Not that I have anything against it) then I worry we may go awhile without a proper show to watch.
EpicTransformer
They should just make the next series based around Decepticons and call it Transformers Crime

The Fan in me is screaming
'G1 G1 G1 G1 G1"
But im not sure....if it truly is like described down to the word and it probilly is..

Guys, GUYS, what if it's...Animated 2.0?
Ironhide4
Surprised that the writers haven't tapped into the comics and written a show circling around the wreckers or indeed a show that switches team each week or two like dinos week 1-2, wreckers week 3-4, primes crew etc. That would sell toys and give each crew a function. Excited to see what's next as Prime has had some highlights but a lot of low points.

Give it up bro....

I don't really mind hearing that the show is going to be aimed at a younger demographic. Animated arguably was, and it turned out great. Besides, Prime tried so hard to be "mature" along with all of its other failed contingencies, that the dark atmosphere they tried to establish ended up just being laughable.

As for 2D animation,

I love animated but logic dictates against that happening,

MORE CHARACTERS WITH 2D YaY

Hope fully we'll get more news sooon!

I liked everything except, why not just drop the tfp designs. Never liked them from the start.
GizmoTron
A 2D animated Transformers cartoon, aimed more towards a younger audience, with character models not far removed from Transformers Prime.

Gee, wonder what that could be???? You don't suppose that it's, I don't know, this:

SPLIT LIP
Guys...

Technically Animated was aimed at little kids. And it's designs were simpler.

Then again...

Same writers from TFP will return for the next series (This info was proven correct not too long ago).
...We could still very well be fucked.

Go's character models are SUPER far-removed from Prime, and hardly "simpler."

I'd say nice try, but it wasn't.
grimlock1972
I shall wait and see. no where near enough information to even think about passing judgement at this point.

not even close.

1 He's talking about whats going on now with the early pre-production not whats been finished. 2 Simple 2D these are no in fact they are quite 3D and very detailed.
Omegax80
So, we're going back to Animated-style story.

I can live with that.
Lazerwave
Probably won't watch.

Mabye they are just saying, "Our toon will drive sales for young fans, and the collectors can get a mature feel from the comics"

..Hence the crack dealer-esque technique of packing in a comic with the new toys. I bet IDW is rubbing their hands together anticipating TONS of new comic sales from fans that have not been exposed to them get some of the GOOD issues when they REALLY start hitting the pegs..

That Megatron issue is BADDASS.

If I weren't collecting the comics...I sure as F%$# would after reading the one that came with Megatron.
Wallu
Not happy about this, at all. Fine with 2D, but aimed at younger audience? Isn't that what rescue bots are for? Hope this proves wrong.
Godziboy1993
I really hope it's not animated using Flash.
kaijuguy19
For those who are freaking out about the TFP writers doing the next series aren't most of them along with the producers also did Rescue Bots which is pretty well received? I mean this CAN be on the same level of qulaite as Rescue Bots at least if not on TFA's levels.
Blitz.
As others have pointed out he could be talking about something close to G1 however the whole "Prime style" points me more towards a slightly more complex rescue bots.

What it worrying me is the comment about how cheap 2D is compared to 3D. In Pre-production thats totally true CGI models and the rigging needed is insane hence the low cast numbers for CGI shows. However the savings come in production as its quicker to animate CGI then 2D. At least that's the logic for feature films. I guess if they outsource the animation and have a really low standard its doable.
Anguirus
This sounds a LOT like Animated.

But with the same writers (and hopefully continuity) as Prime? My wallet may continue to be in for a ransacking. I may be a lonely guy here, but I really dig Aligned, it has attracted my attention in ways Animated did not. No critique here, no argument, just the facts as they stand for me.

I'm hoping that old characters remain pretty strongly based on their current designs and that the author mostly means new characters (which will be BEYOND PLENTIFUL in a 2013 2D cartoon). I'm not a fan of wholesale, non-explained redesigns like A/E/C. But that's the world we live in I guess.

Actually, the most interesting thing about this by far (if true) is the economics of 3D toons failing to pan out. I thought that this was the new normal, not an experiment. But I don't think it's a bad thing. I"ve been head-over-heels in love with most of the 2D superhero stuff this decade.
Rewire
I love all the growling against it being a kids show.
You guys all realize that's what this is, right?

As for me, G1 was decidedly kiddy and Animated was pitched as a 'kiddy kids show' so I am not worried even if it is all true. Heck, even Rescue Bots is pretty well-written for what it is. Love it or hate it, unless it's a KISS Players adaptation I know I'm giving the new show a fair shot. I am really damn excited for a return to 2D though. Hopefully we get some nice, clean designs going into this, and maybe bigger or at least more flexible cast.

Oh, I'd love to see a Five, oh I mean SEVEN year old show.

Okay, I hate the Hub now.
Brooticus
Animated was aimed at kids, and it turned out to be something rather special. Colour me optimistic.
