The official Transformers Facebook page has posted a brief preview passage from the new Aligned-continuity novel Transformers Retribution, available in bookstores from tomorrow. In this passage, Optimus Prime and Megatron realise that they are being manipulated by the nefarious Quintesson race – and Optimus Prime learns that even the collective wisdom in the Matrix of Leadership may not help him!
Check out the brief excerpt and then be sure to check out the full novel when it hits stores tomorrow.

The book's got the standard canon inconsistencies, but you expect those with third party EU material. It's not a bad read, but man the body count?
Yeesh.
Omega Charge
Currently reading the book and enjoying it, but I feel like the authors don't "get" a few of the characters; they seem to be writing most of them as if they're human, without taking into account some of their robotic or iconic features and traits. For instance, Shockwave frowns and shows facial expressions (his face is just an eye…), and Soundwave speaks with implied emotions in his voice at times (he speaks in monotone…). For most characters it's fine and you can write their dialogue and thoughts without worrying about who they are physically, but in cases like those I have to pause and scratch my head when I'm reading, especially since I like to play out the scenes and hear their voices in my head when I read.
Other than that, really enjoying it.

I read the book. It's awesome.

The cover for this book is badass.
LegendAntihero
The cover looks nice. Did Optimus and Megatron go at it in the book? Who won?

I keep trying to convince myself that it's just dumbed down for the kids, but even then I am seeing places where the writing really could be improved, what does it mean to hit the "Off-switch" of the matrix? is there a literal switch? This is usually determined with- a digit hovering over small protrusion in the cyan light of the matrix's crystalline structure. Not just, "he reached in and turned it off".

They are all under the same umbrella. The Covenant makes that pretty clear; it's like how Sunbow and Marvel are the same umbrella of fiction despite having a lot of differences.
WFC/Prime/Exodus all share the same backstory; heck, the Covenant makes reference to stuff in the novels.
Even then though, the Covenant makes use of Aligned bible designs rather than Prime ones despite following the same story; which does help somewhat re: reconciling things like Soundwave talking in the novels.
Reading the new book, it's not bad so far.
YoungPrime
I remember when they were first trying to pass off WFC, TF PRIME, and that Exodus book as being under the same umbrella but failed miserably…
Guess old habits die hard.
Darkhawk79
Picked it up yesterday and it's actually says it's a Prequel to the animated series but has a pic of Transfomrers Prime Megatron and Prime on the cover…..and check WM, they have it there cheap
spiritprime
No, it's done by David J. Williams and his partner Mark S. Williams.
nicholsG1
is this by the same author of Exodus and Exile?
Pravus Prime
I enjoyed some of Exodus, personally I liked reading up to the war and then having the DS games tell the rest of the story.
Exiles had some interesting ideas, but felt like a lot of tire spinning and not a lot of movement.
This, I'm going to wait until there are several reviews before I make any decisions with. That excerpt certainly went a long way to unsell me on it. Also, personally I really dislike the Quints.

I checked my amazon account for the items I purchased yesterday and noticed thay this shipped as well. I honestly forgot that I preordered this back in July
YoungPrime
The first one was inconsistent.
The second one was boring.
Now this one is a sequel but it isn't written by Alex Irvine so is the 3rd time the charm?
spiritprime
Mine just got shipped today! I'm gonna get it on Febuary… 21st?! WAT
GoldBug2
Excellent! I've read the first two books and I want to see how this third book turns out.
Dinobot Nuva
Wait this is out? Hmm, will probs have to pick up a copy after I finish reading the Covenant.

The first book seemed to be the only good one. Actually, the last 2 books were both iffy. I liked the politics of the first book however, the war for Cybertron was waaay rushed and not fleshed out. They missed a huge opportunity with that one.
And yeah, this book does read dumbed down. I'll buy it though.
tonyformer
I think the copy and past function or whoever re-wrote it on Facebook forgot how to put spaces between words.
And I can already tell that this book is not going to be written no where as good as the last two. It feels so dumbed down.
