Transformers Prime Japanese Store Exclusive Nightmare Unicron (Darkness Unicron) Image

Takara-Tomy have made one other update to their website today - they've added a page for their next Transformers Prime store exclusive, Darkness Unicron, now referred to as Nightmare Unicron. According to the story text on the linked page, Nightmare Unicron appeared when the spark of Gaia Unicron was sealed away and he represents the still partially unsealed "true" incarnation of the Chaos Bringer, the story is a little fuzzy on this detail by our translation.

As speculated, Darkness / Nightmare Unicron is going to be a black version of the Chaos Bringer, so in his Gaia Armor form he'll blend well with Darkness Megatron or Nemesis Prime.

The page also specifies the launch of a contest, the "Second Arms Improvement Contest", a customizing contest for Japanese fans. It runs from 9th of January to the end of February. There are various prizes including a sound stage with Optimus Prime voice clips, a new Arms Micron Shining R.A. O and giveaways of Nemesis Prime. By our reading Nightmare Unicron isn't being given away through this contest, so it's likely this is the Darkness Unicron teased for a March release a while back as a Yodobashi Camera store exclusive, only available at the Akihabara (Tokyo) and Umeda (Osaka) branches.

For the right price, I do love that mold... something about a mountain with a face as an alt mode is just amazing. Got Gaia Unicron for Christmas and it's in my top 5 Prime toys for sure.

I do wish we would refer to it the same way Chrome translates it though. "Nightmare UNIQLO emissions"

Don't own Unicron yet, but it is on my list, but if I grab this one, I am gonna have to get Nemesis and Cialis (whatever it is) Breakdown for a whole dark display. The set would look great with the Vehicons and Terrorcon Bumblebee.

I'd say the new paint scheme seems better than the wannabe G1-styled original... and its scheme will mesh so much better with Nemesis Prime or Darkness Megatron. I still think the combined form is a tad funky (all that kible lying around) but to those that like it... it'd make a nice display I suppose.

I ended up passing on the original Gaia Unicron, mainly because the only reason I wanted it was for the Micron, and the fact that it looks neat when combined with Unicron's arm, but for those two things alone, the price wasn't justifiable. Whilst I think the chroming looks better here, and indeed, Darkness Unicron has a gorgeous paint job (not forgetting, however, the tendency of TakaraTomy to photoshop Arms Micron figures to oblivion), I still don't feel that it's necessary for me to buy. It's just one mould that I don't really care about, and as far as Prime goes, I've attempted to get most of the moulds, and a lot of my figures are the Arms Micron versions, but this one is not one I'll be buying. It does look nice, though.

Very much so! The only bad thing about this will be adding another expensive preorder to a burgeoning early '13 list of stuff I'm already targeting. Totally worth it though, for me.

I tried regular Unicron on Dark Guard FE Optimus and it fits fine the Nightmare version should really suit the colours too - It may even look better on the FE mould anyway as it's a bit bigger.

But that Unicron always looks far nicer on Weaponizer Prime anyway.

If thats metallic silver rather than just plain silver paint then its worth buying. Though in context with how it would fit, i honestly just dont like the idea of it as a figure. Its rather bland in terms of being anything other than a nightmare version of Unicron - considering there is no justification for the colours in any other way other than a warper/twisted version of Unicron... who by definition is warped and twisted anyway >.<
