TFW Transformers Prime Ultra Magnus Gallery

Today it gives us pride to share a new Transformers gallery with you! Next up is the first of two new releases in Voyager Class Wave 4, Ultra Magnus!

Ultra Magnus may be familiar to anyone who picked up the Cyberverse toy, as the Voyager Class toy is very much an upscaled version of the Cyberverse Commander, with a few extra steps and panels for the arm and leg transformations. This regrettably brings over some of the bad points of that design along with the good ones, such as the rear view of the truck mode having the robot mode legs on full view. But there are some good points too, including some excellent articulation and the best MechTech weapon on a Transformers Prime toy yet - one that not only locks in its deployed mode, but that also features two distinct modes.

All in all, Ultra Magnus is a great toy. He's not without flaws, but he stands up well all things considered. Well worth the purchase in my opinion, provided you are able to pick him up at retail or close to retail prices.

That UM With The Kids Made Me Think Of Animated When Ultra Magnus Flipped Out Over Humans.

Awesome gallery. Though the box art is really puzzling to me...it looks like a very crude CGI rendering of the toy itself, whereas Thundertron's looked far more like actual show art. Even weirder, Cyberverse Magnus had a much more realistic looking mug shot on his packaging-- it looked like it could have been one of Lopez's concept paintings or something. Not at all like the ugly picture used on this box and the trading card.

Cant wait till i can get this domestically.

I would have rather there been a comparison with PRID prime as well, as they would in theory scale better....

Judging from the picture, my only concerns are the lack of ankle joints and how far the shoulders stick out, but that's due to transformation i'm sure....

I MUST have this now.
Secretcode
How's Magnus' articulation?
nOObiE do0
It seems to be some really thin plastic.
Well at least it looks like it with the white background.I cant help but think about how long these will last,Considering g1 toys are still in good shape after all these years.
Decitron
That is very much a robot who is sticking his butt out the back of his truck... Someone was in a weird place when they designed this.

Pretty decent, he's got waist articulation which is a rarity these days, ball joint hips and shoulders, thigh and upper arm swivels, plus ratchets in his elbows and knees. Ball jointed head as well, good range of movement there. There's very little to keep him from striking a lot of poses except, as nOObiE do0 picked up on, the plastic feels a bit lighter, which is a double edged blade but generally it means wider stances are harder to balance because there is less weight in the legs to keep them grounded. It's a real problem with his big ol' gun.
Kaijumaster
very VERY Nice! glad I pre-ordered, but boy howdy this boy is gonna need some Repro-labels!
Primax
Wasn't going to jump on it, but these pics changed my mind. I would be up for a Motormaster repaint too!
Paladin
The blue plastic inside the arms seems vulnerable to stress marks.

Hasn't caused a problem yet but keep an eye on it.

Yep. Like I said before...

The transformations are so similar, that it makes me wonder if his show CGI model is currently in the works.

Love that picture of him with the kids.
Cha Chi
Best pictures seen so far. He's cool if there was ever any doubt. Just a little dry in execution.

You get much more a feel for his character with the voyager... Pretty sure if he'd had been in show already everyone be going bananas for him.
Bahamut Prime
Probably needs more pain detailing in vehicle mode (and some comparison photos with RiD Ultra Magnus/Car Robots God Magnus) - but other than that, he looks superb!

Just gonna drop this here:

Yeah, or worse. As much as I wanted to buy Magnus, I just don't think I can go along with elbow joint parts (or any joints really) made out of translucent plastic. There's just too much history of those breaking.
Anguirus
Something about this guy is really speaking to me. Love the accessories and the robot-mode design. As for the truck mode, we'll just pretend that didn't happen.

I'd love for Ultra Magnus to yell "FOR ASGARD!"
LegendAntihero
Could use some more paint apps. I'm hoping/thinking Ultra Magnus is the commander of he Autobots who aren't on earth.

Nice! It's amazing how much a little paint can go a long way.

As far as shots with the Car Robots one goes - I'd have loved to include some if I could have fit him and Prime Ultra Magnus in my light tent properly. Might have a go down the line, I do so love a challenge
crazyjeffy
Just thought of something

Look familiar?
General Magnus
I like it. The fact the weapon locks in both modes is great too.

This^

Like, I wasn't really tickled at first, but since going through the gallery, I've had quite the turnaround.
REMINATOR
Love the pic with the human figures. Also the custom pic with paint added on made UMagnus looks really awesome. It's a shame, they put very little effort into the paint app. I will definitely be getting him once it hits TRU.
Jetbolt
I look forward to adding it to my TFP collection.

With Starscream as Loki.

Still kinda wish he came with 2 missiles, but I guess that's what the "Not so cool stuff" thread's gonna be for

No retail sighting in the US yet, far as a i know.

And BBTS appear to have skipped Wave 4 on the basis that Thundertron and Magnus are repacked in Wave 5, because they have the two of them listed for Nov.

It's not impossible that Hasbro US have done the same thing.
Superquad7
Wow, your photos make a great figure look spectacular. This makes me much more excited about this figure. I hope I can find one soon

I got mine online, since I doubt we'll ever see him in the UK (we did just get Dreadwing though...)

But yes, right now it's Asia retailers and those who order from Asia directly that has them only. I'd imagine a retail sighting might come through in the next month though, so look forward to it
RW8U
Is he always gonna be hunched over like that? Or is that just how you guys have him?
alanyap
Im still dissapointed by his flat back. He must've met the qouta of "n number of hinges per mould" so adding two or 4 more to fold his back panels would be madness.
optronix72
This bot is pure win, definite must have!
RedAlert Rescue
It's interesting how he looks like the same family of Mercedes or possibly Hino Trucks that RID Ultra Magnus may spring from.

I wonder if we can finagle the control art out of Hasbro like happened with Ironhide - It might be worth asking on this facebook page maybe if we can have the pre-release control art for Thundertron and Magnus published at some time (if it exists).

Like it was with Ironhide it would be interesting to see what colours would go where if he was CGI - and unless he's added to the show that might not be so easy to find out.
Clifftothemax
Managed to get both Ultra Magnus and Thundertron. They're both easily two of the best Voyagers released in any Transformers line, despite a few niggling little criticisms.

Ultra Magnus kinda wins out though, in that a) He's a decent Ultra Magnus toy that isn't a repaint of Optimus Prime. b) You don't have to pay a massive amount of money in order to turn him into one via non-official means. c) He feels like an update of the G1 character moreso than any other Magnus released in the last decade (even if the Leader Animated Magnus was rather good). And finally d) His weapon is the only one in the entire line that locks into place, and you get two modes out of it; hammer and rifle.

So yeah, definitely a decent figure.
Oh and also, I'm loving how these days Ultra Magnus seems to be given a hammer as his signature weapon, like Ironhide and his cannons. Makes me very happy to see elements of different series combine into a whole.
GladiatorPrime
This I like!
Micronautsdeep
Leg kibble is the exact thing that I hate on the Weaponizer Optimus Prime. So long as the weapons are attached to the back of Magnus though it isn't so bad ebcause it hides it.
Cool figure...pre-ordered!
