Transformers @ The Moon reports that Hasbro has applied for a new Transformers trademark – Airachnid.
It is not clear exactly what this is – could it be an all new character who turns into some sort of flying spider? Or could it be the name of the alternate mode itself?
Speculate away on our 2005 Boards!

Airachnid kinda sounds like what they'd name Spider-Man's crossover vehicle.

Y'know I have a funny feeling that this could be a human weapon… Don't know why but it just does.

Good news! You no longer have to worry that spiders might learn how to fly. They already have! Now your fears can be a certainty!
As for the actualy topic, I for one hope that it is a TF, though with no information one way or the other, the Spiderman product predicted by others is just as likely.

Yeah, but the real Spiderwasps are just wasps that kill spiders. Not a mixture of the two. It's funny this would come up because I was talking to my daughter about getting a degree in genetics just so I could create a mutant spider wasp. Eight legs, fangs, wings, and a stinger. I just wanted to see what it would look like. Then I realized it would be easier to just draw one. Never did though.
Bahamut Prime
Sounds like the results are gonna be pretty interesting indeed!
Beastbot X
I think this is probably it, or at least related to it. Maybe a Spider-Man toy that comes with a transformable vehicle?
"Airachnid" doesn't seem like the direction Hasbro is going with their TF names. If a TF transforms into an animal and it's NOT an homage to an old character, they tend to want to give them more generic names that could be applied to more than just beasts (Knockdown, Divebomb, Windrazor, Overbite, etc.).

"Ive had enough of this muther fecking spider transforming into this muther fecking plane!"

Airachnid sounds like a spin off of Snakes on a Plane.
This time it's Spiders!

Interesting, definitely interesting. I'm curious to see what Hasbro uses this for. A triple-changer would make sense.
jametron
That's an awesome idea!

I heard somebody suggest that the name was for a marvel crossovers spider-man that turns into some kind of jet/helicopter.
That actually makes a lot of sense, especially with how cheezy (in a classic marvel comics, Stan Lee kind of way) "Air-achnid" actually sounds. We shouldn't assume that this is for "Transformers" franchise transforming robot toy.
blunghole
This is a pipe dream, but I'm hoping for Hasbro to update the brand that they sued K-mart over…Four Star Transistor Robots. The name Airachnid would definitely fit this fellow:
STA: Transformers Knock-Offs: Four Star: Tri-Spy (Bug/Helicopter)
Let's face it, it'll never happen. But I would love it if Hasbro did an updated version of Tri-fly, tri-spy, and Mr Hard Hat!
Black Sideswipe
I love those guys. I hope so.
