Courtesy of TFW2005 Site Sponsor Robot Kingdom's Facebook page, we now have in package photos of the soon to be released Platinum Edition Ultra Magnus. Featuring a newly-molded Forge of Solus Prime, the Platinum Edition Ultra Magnus is a vast remold of the Weaponizer Optimus Prime mold from the Transformers: Prime- Robots in Disguise line.

What is additionally intriguing about this release is the mysterious Autobot Logo with the words "3 of 30" printed on top of it. Could this be referring to the Platinum Edition toyline itself, or is this referring to the number of toys in the "Thrilling 30" line? Stay tuned to TFW2005 as time goes on, where we will bring you news regarding the Thrilling 30 celebration, as well as everything else Transformers as the news breaks.

Three of THIRTY?

So when all is said and done the Platinum subline of Generations is going to be THIRTY bizarre fanservice retools of larger figures?

Is this old news? Did the Omega packaging have this all along?

That's a good point there... does "3 of 30" refer to the Platinum series, or to the "Thrilling 30" subline?

Cool

The question is "of 30 what?" 30 Platinum figures, or 30 "Thrilling 30" figures, or what exactly?

Given right now there's two other Platinum figures that have been released, which would make this 3 of 30 in the Platinum series, it makes one wonder - especially given they've only been releasing them at the rate of a few a year. That implies a VERY long term plan re: Platinum.
orangeitis
30 figures in the entire line, eh?

I doubt they actually made plans for all 30. They seem to be releasing 2 per year(if you count Bruticus vs Grimlock as 1 and this year's second), so they might've just decided on a cutoff number for the future. And with only 2 per year, this'll be a 15-year line.
Galaxy Convoy
A carrying handle added to the packaging? Really? What do they think people are gonna do with this?

I think that would be a good thing It also would make me consider obtaining that Energon Optimus Prime

Well......carry it around as an accessory.......obviously

Seriously though, this is nothing new....Omega Supreme also has a handle

It's a collector-targeted item. So they think people will leave it in the box.

Does it count as 2 per year? Omega/YOTS Prime were both 2013 releases as well; and we don't know what's up with Masterpiece yet. I'm wondering if they'll fold those into the Premium line as well.

The size of the box probably warrants it. The SDCC Bruticus box has a carry handle too.

That's right, I forgot. Though when are Magnus and the Grimlock/Bruticus ones coming out? It might be early '14.

Note that I haven't checked if they're up for preorder yet.
Thundershot
This certainly gives a spark of hope for retooled Fort Max (from Cybertron Metroplex) and Scorponok (from Energon Scorponok) at some point down the line if the 30 refers to Platinum.

I don't think Masterpiece will fold into it, given Thundercracker's Masterpiece was released as a Toys R Us exclusive and features plain jane Masterpiece-related packaging, in lieu of something tying in. Generations was going full tilt at that point, plus Platinum seems to be mostly (all?) Aligned continuity in story, rather than mixing up continuities like Generations. I'd think if they wanted that, they'd have done it already.

Could make sense, though. Also, not sure if I'm keen on Magnus reusing the Weaponizer Optimus mold...
Snake_eyes1975
Oh wow...they used the weaponizor mold that is warming worse than a DOTM Bee..
Transformed
I don't know if there'll be 30 figures, but if so, wow!

2013 is the 30th birthday of the Transformers and I've seen boxes showing 30 on them as of late.
Skeeve
I'd love a new Cybertron/Galaxy Force Optimus. Or an Energon Galvatron.
Roadblock1977
That kinda sucks that they're relegating this figure to an exclusive department.
Kaijumaster
I think we got another energon Scorponok on our hands
(better in hand than in the stock photos)
Stepper
Like the box very much, like the YOS Omega Supreme.
deruberhanyok
Yep. Still interested in this guy. Even moreso now that you can make out facial details. The blue on blue from the pics last year looked incomplete.
jerryitus
man, i love what i see so far, i could deal with 30 of these
automan224
Please don't tell me that the 3 of 30 means that only 30 will be produced

That's what I'm thinking at least
ToddJumper
While the box art is awesome.. Ill have to pass on this figure- I have the Optimus Weaponizer toy and its crap.

It's 30 different figures for the 30th anniversary line which runs from this year to I think? some extent of 2014 due to how long it will take to release all 30 items.

It will not be a 15 year line. No way would they carry it that long. People would quickly lose interest and there would be to many changes with Transformers for a small line like this to live on for 15 years.

Highly doubt that. A small run like that on a toy of which money was spent on to retool it wouldn't make it cost effective.
iacon45
I did entertain the idea of getting this but I already knew he was going to be a bit expensive because of being a Platinum release, but seeing the pics of his "Magnus Stacks" kibble hanging off the sides in truck mode, I think I will pass.

How else do you expect me to carry it into the hotel?

I didn't see this confirmed anywhere...

If there's only 30, then we already know 4 Legends, 7 deluxes, 3 Voyagers, 2 Platinums, and 1 Titan. That's 17/30.

Ok, THAT might hook me into this Platinum thing. Though I already have Superlink Scorponok (or Zarak or whatever)

I remember hearing it from Toyfair.

30 seems like a good number to go with, considering they also have to sell Beast Hunters, Kreos, Construct-a-bots, and bot shots toys. That right there is already a ton of Transformers product competing for shelf space.

With another film coming up, I don't think it will be a big line for the 30th. Once again, something good ends early because of something...movie.
Yobuster
Looks pretty good and the box is pretty decent. what really sells it for me is the Forge of Solus Prime. However not sure if the price will justify to buy this magnus.

That's as may be, but I have all of the extant 30th anniversary product and none of the rest of them have this X of 30 business.

Besides, Magnus is the 3rd Platinum toy, whereas he'd be the 5th Thrilling 30 toy if he came out tomorrow.
tfwmongrel
As much as I detest blatant repaints that WILL die on the shelves in droves, I do have my fingers crossed that this could result in a higher quality re-release of First Edition Prime with some much-deserved chrome treatment (and no embarrassing brown doors). Probably won't be so lucky though, and we'll five 5 more Bumblebee variants.
Digilaut
Don't even mind the really compromised truck mode, what still bothers me the most is the colors. For some reason they went with a really pale white for his body, as well as his face (at Toy Fair the face was actually light blue, a la Animated Magnus, which looked even worse).

Had this thing been done in more accurate colors I'd be all over it. Now it just feels like a missed opportunity - the regular voyager looks much nicer.

Shame about the Forge though!

Yeah the hammer looks pretty good, I'm actually wondering why no 3rd party company has put one out yet, but we've gotten countless Star Sabers or variations thereoff.
REMINATOR
The art is very nice. I'm glad he has white face rather than pale blue earlier pic. The fully painted red hand I'm not fond off and will look kind out of place when he's standing next to my Cyberverse, PRID, and once I get that BH version. But overall, I like the Platinum Edition, can't wait to have him as part of my UM Collection. Oh the hammer, priceless! I hope it can be mounted onto his back like the show.
Jack Darby
Is he going to be available in the US or is he being put out by Takara? I kind of wouldn't might getting him.
Aeronnz
Anybody have any idea on how much this guy is gonna cost?
Ribieconvoy
Since they fixed the face and Prime Ultra Magnus has kibble on his truck bed in the show, this version is a great one. Plus it has an accurately colored forge, aside from the handle. Until you get to the freaking gigantic shoulder kibble that ruins the vehicle mode.
Prime Jetscream
Damn. I really want that Forge.

I couldn't care less for the rest of it, though, since I only really buy anything for having a complete cast, and this thing is waaay too big, unless you get the Ultimate Optimus, but in that case, there's no Predaking that's large enough or any Megatron that's large enough.

*sigh* There would be a lot less scale problems if Hasbro actually cared for Leader size anymore.
Or at least made Decepticons in that size.
Jack Darby
I'm betting this will end up being a SDCC exclusive I bet. They've had one like every year so far. Thats my guess plus his packaging looks exclusive like.
Sol Fury
Stepper
Only like the forge of solus, not a fan of Ultra Magnus.
kavemon3
I would be on my list if they used the First Edition Optimus mold.
Atomatron
want to see truck mode with a gi joe
General Magnus
Im highly impressed.
Biotoakid
I feel like he really rocks this mold like, it was kind of shit for OP but it seems big enough to look nice as UM
adamhebbard
I think we've all forgotten what a horrible figure weaponizer optimus was...
Ktulu
Looks cool and stuff. I dig the arrangement of the colors. Yeah.
jjtitus
It annoys me that they put this under the "Platinum" line when it's missing so many paint apps. Shouldn't these figures be some of the best painted and detailed? Doesn't make sense.
