So is Shockwave too generic for Hasbro to keep using?

I notice he's called DECEPTICON SHOCKWAVE there.

Trademark reasons. You can't trademark the word "Shockwave" since it's a generic term. Same goes for characters like Ratchet and Jazz.

Did they not trademark it for Animated and DOTM? Both toys had "TM" next to their name.

I guess it's all interesting stuff. I'm eager to find out how this will all play out.

Thanks for sharing it should be interesting to see how the autobots "adopt" toward Predacon/Predaking.

So, when does the new BH 'toon start? Because I'm eager to have something else show up in my DVR list other than old Prime episodes... that I already have on Blu.

Also, I wonder if the mini-story episodes listed on each of the BH transforming instructions are meant to act as a prequel for the show or if this will instead play out in the show just like in these stories. Suites me fine either way. Also, it will be interesting to see how the Predacon faction begins to quickly divide on the show, as the mini-stories mention that (for instance) Lazerback fractured from the Predacon's fairly early. So... guess the Predacon's won't be so united under Predaking after all.
Smashs
Eh, I've never liked beastformers, can't imagine I'll start because of this.

No biggie. Hopefully the show stays fun to watch. *shrugs*
Thundershot
Please don't let all the Autobots look like the BH toys.....
HeroicC300
Cool. Hopefully we'll get more than just Predaking; they said that there'd be more in the toyline than in the show, but given that they're trying to have over a dozen different predacons, I'm hoping for at least Grimwing (so the Autobots get one), Lazerback and Ripclaw. Just those four and I'll be happy.

A TV Movie. Prime. With plot lines that go nowhere, characters development that's constantly fucked up and no respect for the Decepticons. That get's a TV movie while Animated gets canceled!!!

Nice, if there are 2 movies coming out (Straight to DVD and Made for TV if I read the Press Release Right) That'll be like 4-6 episodes of content, makes a little more sense why the cut back on the seasons length.

It is interesting that "Predacons Rising" is coming out in October, to me this implies that the Predacons will be coming into the show later in the season, so maybe we'll have a while with just the Decepticons trying to find the autobots, and some time for character focused episodes with each Autobot trying to elude the Decepticons, until they bring in the Preds to hunt them.

That's all speculation of course, but it'd be awesome.

Oh, and I'd love for the movie to include the return of Prime, not that I want him back, but that it'd mean he'd be gone for most of the season.

Back on track...

This is a really big push for a new TF line, and it looks pretty awesome. This is bringing huge attention to the new series, and I get an "epic story" vibe to it. I don't care for the toys, but the TV series has me hooked. I wonder if the movie will be the first two or three episodes of the season.

It's obviously to distinguish this one from any relevant version of Shockwave they plan on using in other lines to come.

TFA got two movies. Both the premiere and TRANSWARPED were written as movies, the premiere even being separate from the season itself production and budget wise.

Yeah; this is why I was curious. Unless the trademark wasn't able to get registered as SHOCKWAVE, but they WERE able to get DECEPTICON SHOCKWAVE as a registered trademark. Going forward he is becoming one of the big names in Transformers fiction again, so it makes sense they'd want the stronger protection.

All speculation on my part though.

As for this TV movie, it's probably just a multiparter that they're going to air all as one episode. Like how the Unicron event was done in such a way to work as a single TV movie.
Scorpio
"an unprecedented new foe" is meant to say "an unprecedented new force"

"Predacons Rising" is likely the name of a group of episodes similar to "Darkness rising" mini-series

I have a feeling the 'TV Movie' will probably just be the wrap up to Beast Hunters. With the episodes being centered on the Predacons and them being defeated in the final few episodes. The 'TV Movie' will probably just be the final battle between the leaders of the Autobots and the Decepticons (depending if Predaking kills Megatron - which could happen...)

The fact the 'TV Movie event is stated as happening 'later in the year' leads me to believe that Series 3 will end on some cliff hanger with either Predaking or Megatron's death and leave the surviving member to lead both the Predacons and the Decepticons.

I really dislike that they are starting to call characters things along the lines of 'Decepticon Shockwave' it makes him seem more generic in my opinion.

As for the toyline, the only toys that interest me at all are Ultimate Predaking, Shockwave and the female predacon with the claw weapon.

I guess but it still got canceled just to be replaced by this. If Prime's canceled after this season, then I'll be happy. Well, less annoyed.

Prime was originally scheduled for three seasons. If they end it it'll happen either this year or next. Most likely they'll end the series with the movie which will probably tie up some of the loose ends and complete the series.

I doubt that Transformers Prime will run in 2014 as TF4 is what they will be focussing on so they would drastically reduce Transformers Prime's episode length and characters/toyline if that were to happen.

Anywho, Transformers Prime will probably be replaced in 2015 with a more 'TF Movie' styled Transformers series to go in time with the gap between TF4 and TF5. I would'nt be suprised if there is talk of doing an Animated style movie-verse cartoon series...

Lol, Nice. Animated fans that don't realize that their precious show yielded two TV movies. Nice catch Shroob.

I expect Predacons right away. Either the movie will be an origin story or the show will start a bit in-progress (think BM) and this movie will fill the season 2-3 gap. But who knows...
Dinodigger97
And let me guess, the TV movie/show/comics/t-shirts/whatever else is just going to have the Autobots walk around in their super armor shit while they're being chased by the Predacons. But, of course, the Predacons are so dumb they can't even tell the difference between a swan and a goose. Then the Autobots will slay the evil Predacons and 'TILL ALL ARE ONE 'n' shit.

Or something like that. I double bet its something like that.

Ow, and why do I get a "Let's deep-throat an other series" vibe from reading the article? It's just me, ain't it?

Actually its much more likely that Megatron will be the main focus in the Tv Movie. He will probably kill Predaking and reveal himself with a new form, then take over as leader of the Predacons and Decepticons.

Remember - we have'nt seen a Beast hunters Megatron toy yet... i have a feeling it'll be an Ultimate Megatron that'll be released near christmas...

All I want to know about Season 3 of Prime right now is everyone in the show exactly the same character-model wise just covered in tonnes of useless spikey bits lol.
Una
Now, despite my disappointment of Season two, I'm willing to see how Season three works out. Maybe since they aren't rushing to end plot arcs they build up from Season one and ended them poorly just to get to here, they will go back to building us up and not do what they did to S2.
Omegax80
Shockwave is Shockwave. We know he's a Decepticon. I don't think it is a big deal at all.

Unless it's Armada where they kept switching Shockwave and Tidal Wave every few episodes

Essentially it'll be explained in the show as them trying to blend in with their environment and also when they defeat a Predacon it'll likely allow them to take armour from them.
Mixmastah
coming to iOS? SWEET!

Sounds like they get their toy upgrades in the show.
Hopefully not permanently, I hope it's some kind of optional armor they use only for battle.

Other than that...

So, all this build up for Predaking and all his evilness, is just going to lead up with him being a new fur coat for Megatron.

That's both idiotic, but extremely predictable seeing how Sylas Breakdown and Dreadwing were handled.

Then again, I could just be on my high horse again.

Maybe they came to their senses and decided the finale should be a TV movie?

Well, congrats to Prime fans, I guess.

So when is this coming back to TV, October?! or is that just the movie? Predacons Rising sounds like the start of a story more than it's end...
WWMEGATRON
Predaking looks great, and the fact we get no just Predaking, but as well Predacons. So at last we get combiners. Hope we designs of the Dinobots/Maximals.

Guessing the movie will be the wrapup for the season. Odds are they'll split the episodes somewhat so that half air in the spring and half in the fall, leading into the finale, like they did with S2 of Prime.

It's possible too that they're not sure if Prime's getting another season, so they have a couple of endings written and are waiting to see how the toys/show performs earlier on.

Haha, as someone taking trademarks in law school now perhaps I can shed a little light on this. TMs have to be defined in relation to a specific product/services. Although Shockwave might be "generic" and therefore not trademarkable for a machine that produces shockwaves in demolition, it can certainly be used for a transforming robot. The same goes for "Apple" when it's used to describe computer products. Although the word itself is generic in layman terms, it doesn't generically describe the goods.

Now that said, sometimes a company won't want an overly broad trademark for fear that other companies can come close to it w/o necessarily infringing, but still raising some eyebrows for confusion. For example, "Golden Soul" could be a fragrance, but "Blue Soul" might be a jazz club, or "Pink Soul" a mark for woman's care products. While the latter two wouldn't infringe Golden Soul b/c they're in different markets, there is some brand dilution, not in the trademark sense of competing products, but just in pure naming association.

Therefore putting another trademarked term in front makes it more specific. But you can bet that in comics, TV shows, and other related media, the characters will only be called "Shockwave" and "Jazz," not "Decepticon Shockwave" or "Autobot Jazz."
RoadRage
Honestly can't wait and.............Hasbro has alot of legal trouble with these names

All they have to do is keep slapping "autobot" or decepicon" or etc on the front of their names. When you buy them, you can call them whatever you want.

Wait so no new episodes till October?

Oh yeah! I'm really looking forward to this. I'm anxious to see the Predacon's CGI in action (I'll bet it's gonna look awesome).

I wonder how they're going to portray the relationship between the Predacons and Decepticons? The Preds are the Decepticons lackeys? Maybe at first, then they become independent?

Ah makes sense that predacon's would split then some to help Bots and others Cons, cause I was thinking if it was all Preda against Bots then they'll need to introduce more new Bot characters...
