Awesome review I think i will get for the sword alone
charsdc2
Got him from retail?
CelticMutt
His shoulder pauldrons look like rhino or warthog heads.
microclone
a bit simplistic on the transformation but great for kids, looks a lot of fun, like a hybrid of animated, cybertron and starconvoy.
charsdc2
Definitely gonna get him! Only downfall is the green, but I don't mind it too much.
StrifeZ
What an interesting figure. If you squint your eyes, the wings become a quasi "trailer" in vehicle mode. In robot mode he's got a ton of bulk, and wings and heroic proportions.

Then his face. His face.

Really interesting prime.
TFXProtector
Wow. That uh... Yeah, that sucks. I can't believe how simplistic his transformation is. Transformation is one of the most important parts of the figures for me. I do like his size, that's pretty impressive considering their cost cutting measures, but he's just a mess in all the wrong ways for me.

Big fat pass.
JukeOutlander
Win.
alanyap
izzit just me or does his shoulders look like 2 halves of a rhino head?
ComicGuy89
I've not seen a more impressive-looking Prime in a long time. I'm worried about how his shoulders tab into his torso. Usually that sort of tabbing doesn't stay in place very long. In fact, in your video, the left shoulder is already hanging out. I just hope that it's more stable than it looks.

The amount of detailing on optimus prime is pretty amazing. I'm a fan of the simpler transformation for me less rubing issues means less sanding and grinding when I repaint him.

quick question is the head on a ball joint?

No, head is on a swivel and is glued together. Well, SUPPOSED to be, mine had some glue but can easily slide apart (yet stays together remarkably well unless i intentionally work at it). Head mods are going to require modification, but I did take a pic with the FE head sitting in place.

Lordsloth
Overall I think I like it. The transformation is indeed a bit on the simplistic side and I'm not that crazy about the alt-mode to begin with. But the robot mode looks pretty neat imho and I'm a sucker for back wings and giant mother loving swords.

The green doesn't bother me that much. Sure I'd have preferred a more classic blue just because it's that character but taken away from the character aspect I don't think it looks bad.

One thing that does bother me is that from the looks of it he doesn't have a wrist swivel. Especially on a figure with a melee weapon I find that a wrist swivel adds a whole bunch to the figure. Still, he has a bicep swivel so it won't be nearly as bad as Prid Jackie (who is otherwise a fine toy, mind you)
harrismonkey
It's an interesting design for him. Unfortunately the lack of paint and detail really isn't doing it for me.

If Takara starts painting these things again , it might spark my interest. (Prid was one of the few lines where Takara's toys tended not to be much better than Hasbro's- if Hasbro bothered to make the figure)

A better head makes the figure that much better.
froggy124
Thanks for the great review! I think a lot of people were waiting for you to do this one, me being one of those people.
You made some very valid points about this figure bein a sign of good things to come. I think Hasbro are heading in the right direction with this line.
Figures such as this and the upcoming Smokescrean and hardshell have really sparked an interest in this line for me.
archieboy
Seems like a solid toy, but right now it doesn't have an Optimus Prime vibe to me. The stock head doesn't help, and it seems that a "regular" Optimus head doesn't also. Any ideas on who we can turn this dude into?
Anti Spark
Man I really changed my opinion on this figure since the first pics came out.

I cant wait to get him.

Peaugh who's next in Beast Hunters reviews?

He has a wrist swivel. No worries.

Some have said Magnus, I think he'd make a decent Thunderclash.

Peaugh who's next in Beast Hunters reviews?
Not sure, none on the docket currently. Maybe Wheeljack if I can find him out and about tomorrow.

yeah i was thinking that also. i watched the whole video twice to see if maybe i was seeing it right. another great review by peaugh. your reviews helo me in determining some purchases because of scale or functionality. i dig the larger size and the star saber most definitely. im just not feeling the look of the figure though. this would make a great motormaster.

If the claw bits on his gut are removable... then that's the only other gripe I have with the figure... and he's then quite nice.

All in all he's neat... and gotta say... wouldn't mind getting that AMW set because yea... those colors fit BH prime quite well!
Driftx3
Pretty sweet! He is like a combination of Cybertron, Beastwars and Prime prime.

+1 for Prime-jets
+1 for new munky face
+1 for flying truck mode

-1 for gray missiles
-1 for floppy missiles and wings

Over all, I'm pretty psyched, if only for the Star Saber

Awesome, awesome review!

That said, I still think it somewhat resembles a shitty knock off of a shitty knock off.
citoria
It looks terrible.

Ever piece of his body is just huge because of a solid piece of plastic, no transforming. Transformers Animated optimus had a more involved transformation. Is this really all Optimus can be made into? Swing arms around, swing legs down, peg in.

He looks strangely disproportionate because his waist is so high up.
megatroptimus
Pretty cool. I would have preferred the fists and feet to be better hidden in alt mode to add a few simple transformation steps, but I still like it. I wonder if RL will do stickers to make the rear end looks like the G1 trailer?
Smasher
Nice review.

The green doesn't look that bad in the video, but I would have much preferred blue.
The jets on the back are great, but they make me wonder if Optimus will look like this in the show.
Thus far none of the Transformers in Prime have been able to fly in robot mode.

Even if he does, its no assurance
First edition scream toy has a fairly pronounced jetpack as well. Though I cant off the top of my head remember if the CG model does. Probably not.
BlueAngel_Bolt
If they decide to make this Prime into a Magnus repaint, i'd be behind it. The head would work a bit better for Magnus.
Thunderclash is good too, however.

I honestly can't wait to get this one. Some of these beefed up Autobots are just all kinds of awesome. And Bulkhead scales surprisingly well in vehicle mode.

Yeah, I also quite like the new esthetic. This prime and deluxe bulk are auto pickups. Though I gotta say I'm not super keen on the spikey remolds. Wheeljack looks like his arm articulation got even worse and murderbee just isn't doing it for me. (DOTM Cyberfire variant will always be my fave murderbee)
Stygian360
Great recent couple of BH reviews, Peaugh! I'm still completely on the fence as to how I feel about this version of Optimus though. Seasons 1 and 2 Optimus felt (dare I say) burdened and had a sense of gravitas to his make up. He garnered respect simply by standing still in a room. However, BH Optimus (at least in toy form) feels like a direct attempt by Hasbro to 'kid him up'. Granted, we're talking about kids toys here, so the appellation is appropriate, but in the past none of the Prime characters/toys have felt like a sincere attempt at playing directly to kids. At least not to these eyes.

Obviously the problem in doing so is the short shelf life that a kids attention span has. Kids love the toys for a year maybe two and then they often leave the hobby as interest in girls, school, and extracurricular activities push toys to the background. So, the target audience has left the hobby for all practical purposes fairly quickly and all you're left with is a trail of tears represented in bad toy/character designs. BH Optimus Prime to me feels like an attempt to appeal to the zeitgeist, which is a moment that will all too quickly be gone. In other words, there is nothing timeless about this version of him and personally I think he's kind of ugly, overwrought, and will be quickly forgotten as we move further into 2013 and even 2014.

This by no means indicates I won't purchase this toy, but as the aforementioned states, I'm not loving this guy.
Doc Wheeljack
That looks even better than I initially thought.... So bought!

I can't wait for mor voyagers (Shockwave, I'm looking at you!)
Enigma2K2
Nice robot mode. STILL looks better than the Powerizers one. But how did we go from First Edition to this?
PudgyNinja
Robot mode looks kind of cool, but I really don't like the vehicle mode.

And the transformation looks pretty boring. He's basically just doubled over into a block.

Pass for me. I'm not excited about any of these Beast Hunter molds.
Solrac333
Who is "Eric"?
Rattrap Primal
oh yeah, this might be my new Defualt Prime when it's released (or at least a Temporary Upgrade......have to figure out how to upload pics from my iPad and learn photo shop)

I'm hoping for a repaint into Motor Master or Nemesis Prime. Ultra Magnus would work for me as well.
Alpha-trion
I was on the fence about this figure (mostly due to pics with him being mistransformed) but after seeing this review I might pick one up. I won't go out of my way to get one, but I will get one.

I haven't been keeping up with the world of TF as of late. Anyword on a Megatron from this line?

Yes, please go into this further. I suspected that there was a new team that took over everything right after first edition, since the feel of the PRiD toys was so different. Do you know something? What happened? And of this Eric, how long was his reign? Was his team around back in the Cybertron days?

If I didn't already have Cybertron Prime (Galaxy Convoy), I would be all over this toy for sure. But since I do already have Cybertron Prime...this toy feels like Cybertron Prime light. I don't think there is enough Star Convoy (or anything else) in there to differentiate it. Cybertron Prime is already scratching this itch.

Gonna have to get this guy. It's jetwing beast hunters prime!

Wow, the FE head makes the figure a million times better!
Omega Charge
Actually looks pretty cool, but the biggest drawback for me: the green windows and eyes. It just appears really strange to me.
cdbenefiel
I'm all over this
Have not been big fan of beast hunters but this has got me on board
megatronatlas
ok now im gonna so get him, has potential to be megatron
Anti Spark
Peaugh - I was looking at the review and I noticed a screw on the inside of his chest. Is it possible to remove that screw so that someone can paint the Cab Windows?

Nevermind! I noticed the other thread with same question!
DrTraveler
My son and I enjoyed this video. He's a big Optimus Fan and I think he enjoyed the more G1 throwback alt mode.

As for me, I think this would make for an awesome Nemesis repaint. I might get this for my son when it comes out, and hold back for the inevitable repaint for me.
bazinga66
This may just be my eyes playing tricks on me, but OP's shoulder guards look like G1 Snarls head on each side, and on bulkhead, the gold design on his doors looks like G1 Grimlock.
