Transformers 30th Anniversary Minifigures

Posted on 01-03-2014 at 05:50 AM by Sol Fury under Transformers Movie Toys & Products (All Transformers Movie News)
Transformers-30
Entertainment Earth has listed some new Transformers merchandise which is slated to be released in March 2014 in time for the 30th anniversary of the franchise. Hasbro licensee Goldie International will be producing a series of minifigures which cover three distinct eras of Transformers history in the first assortment - Generation 1, the Movies, and Transformers Prime.

There are three different assortments listed -

30th anniversary minifigure single packs - the character assortment here includes Generation 1 Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave and Ratchet, Movie Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Ratchet and Sentinel Prime, and Transformers Prime Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Ratchet and Bulkhead.

30th anniversary minifigure three packs - these focus on single characters in their three incarnations from Generation 1, the Movies, and Transformers Prime, and will include three packs of Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream and Ratchet.

Lastly there are 30th anniversary minifigure five packs which are said to each focus on a particular era, with a Generation 1 five pack, a Movie series five pack and a Transformers Prime five pack announced. We'd imagine these will collect the five characters from each era released as single packs although no names are given on the listings.

There are no pictures available as yet, but with Toy Fair 2014 coming up shortly, Hasbro and their licensees might show off some more at that time.

Wow, a hole bunch of the usual suspects. Would be nice to see less focus on the same half dozen guys for merchandise.
Ravenxl7
These sound kind of interesting. I wonder what style these will be in. I keep picturing Robot Heroes, but I kinda hope they don't end up that stylized. I doubt these will continue to include anymore eras of Treansformers, but sets based on RID and the IDW comics would be cool.
st.ranger
Interesting. I do not see any Bumbler in the list.
Novaburnhilde
Color me interested.
BenjaminXavier
Just checked the pricing, looks like the single packs should be $2.99 (US). But they're blister carded. So do we think these are Lego/Kreo minifigs or something else?
unexpectedpanda
I wonder if the presence of Ratchet from three different series hints at a possible incoming MP presence.
Fort Max
They sound like non transforming figures so I'll probably pass.
tabtiurf
A real boon for people who like optimus prime, megatron & starscream and have been somehow unable to get any toys of them until now.
DJW107PRIME
Wonder if they will be like the hero's of cybertron.
juxtapose519
Pretty cool, but why do we need the same characters from all 3 continuities? Especially Ratchet?

That's what I thought^^^^
Biotoakid
Prime like, isn't really a notoable era. Its only recent but Prime fuckin sucked.
Extendarr
I think it would be really cool if these were Legends figures, especially if it would mean getting a legends G1 Soundwave and G1 Ratchet. I figure they'll probably be more like Robot Heroes/Heroes of Cybertron, but if they're transformable, I'll pick these up.
Starscream0625
Meh.

Generation 1 and the Movie-verse are very prominent, but I think Beast Wars would've been a better third choice than Prime.

*golf clap*
Spiderus Prime
No Bumblebees weird.
transmuseum
Debating if excited lol
gothsaurus
yeah, after a few mini figure lines before... I'm not apt to jump to buy them unless they will match either one of those in style and scale. Really, I just wish they'd finish out the Robot Heroes they dropped the ball on. Those were looking great. Those plus a few missing G1 Autobots and I'd be happy.
Eric
So G1, Movie, and Prime are represented, but not other continuities.

Color me unsurprised.

By that logic it also means hints at incoming MP Bulkhead and Sentinel Prime.

No it doesn't. And it might not be over.
RKillian
Oh boy, minifigs. Why, they're almost as fun as folding laundry!

SPLIT LIP
Meh. Three most predicatble continuities. Call me when something worthwhile pops up.

No, because his logic is based off Ratchet appearing in three different iterations (G1, movie and Prime) in this assortements. So no, it doesn't fit his logic since Bulkhead and Sentinel only have one version.

Not that I agree with his logic anyway.

No it doesn't.
Oh yeah it does.

And it might not be over.
It absolutely is. It may have a follow-up, but Prime itself is over.
SnypPrime
It's a shame they didn't have each character be from a different continuity. Like G1 Starscream, Animated Optimus, Prime Soundwave, movie Ratchet, IDW Megatron, etc... That would have felt more like a true celebration of 30 years. But, they're not. So...

Sounds like it might be interesting, but they started it off in the most boring way possible.

I'm not at all surprised about the three eras they chose. G1 is obvious since it's the 30th anniversary, movie cause it's one of the most popular and Prime since it's since currently on the shelf. Though older fans would like to see Armada Prime or Animated Starscream, the target audience (the kids) wouldn't have a clue, and G1 is a much easier sell to adult fans.

The characters they chose were for the most part a no-brainer. They could have put more obscure characters, but given these are marketed towards kids, and that this is the very beginning of the line, it makes sense. If they do well, we'll see other characters.

As others have pointed out, these minifigure type things have been done before and always ends before complete casts are released, Heroes of Cybertron missed out on some classic characters, Robot Heroes gave us some obscure characters, Titanium was a pretty random assortment (G1, Alternators, Beast Wars, Armada).
Obsidian X
Do we live in the Shatterd glass-universe now? No Bumblebees but Ratchets galore instead! Crazyness!
Ikkstakk
At that price, I won't bother hoping for transformation. I'll hope for articulation of any kind. But I won't be surprised if they end up being little one-piece mini-statues.
MegaMoonMan
Tiny little statues - blech.
Cadbane
I need more 'bots with my Metroplex.
Shark Jumper
C'mon Robot Heroes revival.
Nope
I'll need that Ratchet.
Jetbolt
Skip for me, I'll just save my money for the Generations figures instead.

As some one else said they crazily are aiming these figures at adult collectors and shockingly enough younger fans that have grown up on the movies or watched Prime as their first Transfomer series.

It doesn't' suck either.

Imagine that they are trying to get new people into the franchise so they make more money to make more toys unbelievable!

I'm wondering if these are going to be plastic versions of the Titanium line they had a few years ago, well in the style not the same figures.
Grimlock_13
Wake me up when there's more info. Depending on what ithey end up being I may be interested in the Geewun characters.

A little more digging on my part:

The company that is making these is called Goldie International. After some google-fu the other major liscence they seem to have is Super Mario, and I'm sure you've all seen these:

Super Mario Bros. 2-Inch Series 3 Figure 6-Pack - Goldie International - Nintendo - Mini-Figures at Entertainment Earth

I have some, and they're pretty good quality for the price. No articulation, but usually the paint aps are pretty good.

I'm slightly anticipating these now.

The same could be said for Animated, people grew up with that as well and may now be adult collectors ut what it wasn't as notable as Prime, Prime pales in comparison to things like Beast wars, Armada, and Animated (Even tho Armada sucked it had a lot more people that would now be as you put adult collectors)

and yes prime sucked. It had none of the campy shit like G1, none of the cool characters (or plentiful characters) like Animated, and no uniqueness like Beast Wars. It was just a shitty intermission show like Beast Machines but with pretty vehicle modes
Fallyn
Personal dislike of a series doesn't mean it sucked.

I'll be avoiding the movie line myself, but totally interested in grabbing the G1 and Prime figures if possible. <3
Autovolt 127
Yes because the only relevant characters in this franchise are Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream and Ratchet.

Seriously I'm surprised that of all characters there isn't a single Bumblebee from any of these continuities?

SHHHH!!! They'll hear you......

If these go well with Metroplex I'm all in. Need more small G1-esque figures to populate him.

Those figures were recently produced and distributed by Goldie, but they were reusing old molds. They were originally produced and distributed by a company in Japan back in 2007, so you can't really use them as an example of quality.
NemiMonkey
Only 1 Soundwave in a case. That plus no Jazz and my interest is pretty low.
bsutton1
I was hoping this was about Hasbro making more G1 mini warriors.

It says they come with a puzzle piece that forms a 3d puzzle. That will probably be Bumblebee.

I personally thought that was a great ending. It gives Megatron more character, than just being evil for the sake of being evil.

In your opinion. I could list a bunch of reasons why in my opinion the Baymovies are 'legitimately not good', that doesn't make the opinions of anyone who likes them invalid.

In total agreement with Hollywood Hoist with regards to the ending.

You can never have too much Ratchet.

Personally, I love little one piece mini-statues. But Robot Heroes style articulation would be nice too.

You cannot judge the whole show based on Predacons Rising. Nothing in Predacons Rising made a lick of sense because it was shoehorned in purely to sell more toys.
