Kotaku,
IGN, &
Joystiq were given a preview of the
Transformers Revenge of The Fallen video game. Here is some of their initial impressions:
Luxoflux wanted to give gamers more control over the experience besides just choosing what faction you belong to. Yes, you will be able to play as both the Autobots and the Decepticons, but you'll have much more freedom to select characters and the game will apparently boast the biggest roster in any Transformers game to date. The overall mission structure has also been reworked to give players more control by making the experience non-linear.
The demo master showed us how Starscream could hover between boats, blasting at planes and anti-air turrets. Of course, he could do the mission by flying around in jet form, landing, transforming, shooting and then going back into jet mode to reach another boat. But the hover ability will definitely be the key to a gold medal on this mission.
Online multiplayer was mentioned only briefly and we were given an equally truncated glimpse of Optimus Prime battling Devastator, a Decepticon easily 8-10 times his size and built from construction vehicles. And with that it was a wrap.
With an integrated medal system, leaderboards and plenty of unlockables -- as well as a full upgrade suite for the single-player experience -- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will hopefully be a huge step beyond the original game. If the multiplayer works well, this could be a seriously entertaining title.
