Revenge Of The Fallen Video Game Impressions

Kotaku, IGN, & Joystiq were given a preview of the Transformers Revenge of The Fallen video game. Here is some of their initial impressions:

Luxoflux wanted to give gamers more control over the experience besides just choosing what faction you belong to. Yes, you will be able to play as both the Autobots and the Decepticons, but you'll have much more freedom to select characters and the game will apparently boast the biggest roster in any Transformers game to date. The overall mission structure has also been reworked to give players more control by making the experience non-linear.

The demo master showed us how Starscream could hover between boats, blasting at planes and anti-air turrets. Of course, he could do the mission by flying around in jet form, landing, transforming, shooting and then going back into jet mode to reach another boat. But the hover ability will definitely be the key to a gold medal on this mission.

Online multiplayer was mentioned only briefly and we were given an equally truncated glimpse of Optimus Prime battling Devastator, a Decepticon easily 8-10 times his size and built from construction vehicles. And with that it was a wrap.

With an integrated medal system, leaderboards and plenty of unlockables -- as well as a full upgrade suite for the single-player experience -- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will hopefully be a huge step beyond the original game. If the multiplayer works well, this could be a seriously entertaining title.

Looks slightly better than the old game, but it's worrying that Starscream and Bumblebee are the in EXACT same poses in several pictures. That implies that the animation is pretty crappy, or that you will see the same poses all the time.
Samus_Ng
Why does Bumblebee's weapon look like a smaller representation of that space bridge thing we saw earlier today to me?

Maybe... but then again they're only promo shots.

Who is the robot with purple colour? Jolt?

I doubt it's Jolt, looks nothing like a Chevvy Volt to me

A new Drone maybe? Or another new in-movie bot.
Gingerchris
Nice. But then so were the shots for the last game, and look how that turned out.
Joe Moore
Sigh...

Can you please put a link to where these came from?

I will say this. Those shots are a big improvement over the first batch we've gotten. The models seem to show a lot more detail. My main graphical gripe from the first one is still there though. The environments looks lifeless and uninhabited.
Prowl
It's all about crappy timed missions for me. If they can do away with those and balance the game a bit more, then I'll support it, especially if the online game is even half-decent. I've ALWAYS wanted to play a TF game online with people, but I wish you could somehow design your own character and vehicle, even if the transformation sequences weren't logical.
Grimwing
Wow the aircraft carrier battle with starscream looks nice. Until I saw the jaggies from the ship's deck I was assumeing this was a snapshot of a prerendered starscream for a cutscene. The battles are going to be huge. No more battle containment circle!

-bumblebee's axe makes sense do to vary the first game's focus on melee combat.

-Hasbro needs to make those missle carrier drones into toys. I want to troop build them right now.
Joe Moore
It actually looks like they held a gamer conference where all the sites could mess with the game.

Kotaku - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ? Double Feature - Screens

They did one for the TF fan sites last time. Wonder if they will do the same this time around.
ekocher
atleast they say it will be different
Thundercrackah
Timed missions again. Ugh.

What's the article say it's blocked at my work.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen doesn't strike us as a game that will be exceptionally deep, but it definitely looks like it could deliver some fast-paced, good-looking arcade thrills. Hopefully, the finished product will help to further transform our opinion of licensed movie games. See what we did there?
Yeah right. Like the last game.

Total waste of money.

Can't they make it like the Armada game? That was soooooo good!!
Joe Moore
Added the IGN preview link.
Maximus_Prime
they were wrong about Sideways in the article they say Sideways is the one who hunted down Decepticons in their play through of it. They still said it was the Audi R8 but they must have been wrong about the Autobot/Decepticon deal. Oh well nothing big
Blitz.
Tformers it seems got to go looking at their news (I wont link in case I get banzorz)

I like the sounds of everything so far... apart from the Taxi mission
MythofBlackout
Well, it sounds like it'll be good. I'll be buying the game regardless, but I really hope it's a big improvement over the first one.
Sideswipe80
What do the other articles say? I'm blocked at work
Eric
Dammit, timed missions AGAIN.

Yep, it'll suck.
Josh
neat

i know i'll play it
MF MooN
Apparently Sideways serves as a sort of sniper in a recent Kotaku article I read. The author got to view a demo and mentioned:

"The demo master showed off a new Deception called Sideways that takes the form of an Audi R8 when he's not a sniper robot. In one smooth motion, Sideways sped down a street in car-mode, transformed, shot down a helicopter, vaulted part of a building, and then popped back into car-mode to drive off down a different street two blocks over."

So I guess he's going to be a good shot at least, right?
shroobmaster
So can any of you guys mirror all the Kotaku pics? I can't see 'em.
Thundercrackah
On the plus side the DS versions look almost exactly the same as the previous ones, which IMO is a good thing, since I enjoyed them both. Way more than the main console version.
megatronski
it has live co op. how could it suk agian?
Dirge121
Looking at the new screens from Kotaku, I was about to slam it for looking like a PS2 game graphically. I'll hold off for now as it seems those are from the Wii version.

The return of timed missions makes me believe it wont be more than a rent for me.
Soundwave84
Eh i am still going to get the game esp if we get to play online
cheetorBWORG
I need an X360. >.<
Toxicon
I'm pumped. It sounds so much better than the first one (which I actually liked). Having timed missions sucks, though. Is there like a free roam mode where you can then pick missions to do? Or do you never get to stop and smell the roses because it's always timed?
Sideswipe80
Can anyone post pics here? My work blocks the site. What's it say about the DS versions?

Hell yeah! Who do you think the red bot is? It looks like a homage to G1 Powerglide

Maybe a repaint of the Universe mold into the movie line.

He does now, apparently.

At least it sound some of the things from the first game were addressed. Being able to jump and transform at the same time was something that is definitely welcomed. None of the reports mentioned anything about enemy shields or useless weapons, and performing combos sound like it will be hella fun.

The Bad. Time missions....again. Babysit and defend Sam for mission? Please.
These types of missions are just antiquated. They really need to try to be a bit more creative with these levels.

Multiplayer from the sound of it with the improvements should be a damn good time.
Omnius
Is anyone else quite taken aback at how amazingly poor the Wii version looks compared to 360/PS3?
Takara_destron
The wii version looks horrible
imwthstpd
when they say multiplayer.... does that mean multiplayer just online or actually getting two controllers with your friends and killing eachother??

it actually sounds like a pretty awesome game... although the timed missions suck, it has some more good things that back it up... im soo gonna get it
-Superion-
I didn't get the first game because I heard it sucks, but I'm thinking about buying this game because I heard that it will have online multiplayer game mode. Being able to fight other players as Transformers is something that should be alot of fun.
Thundercrackah
Bumblebee had an axe in the first game, it popped out of his arm during his melee combo, but this one looks much better.
Sideswipe80
We need to exchange game IDs with everyone on these boards getting this game. I'm getting it for PS3, ID is Enop80

Judging from what I read on the official site...

PS3 & 360 = Online Multiplayer only.

PS2 & Wii = Offline Multiplayer only.

DS & PSP = ? Unknown ?
Sideswipe80
Crud can anyone post pics, I'm stuck at work.
