Following up on our recently reported sighting of the Platinum Edition Optimus Prime with Sideswipe two-pack, we have some more sightings to report as well as some better news on the pricing for these exclusives. TFW2005 cdavid3 board member has reported seeing the Optimus Prime and Grimlock leader class two pack at the Toys ‘R Us in Times Square, with a price point of $127.99.
Along with this news we also received a tip from TFW2005 member HBCoffin that the Platinum two-pack with Optimus Prime and Sideswipe is listed on the Toys ‘R Us website for a listed price of $169.99, a little easier to swallow than the first reported price of $196.99. We can hope that price for the Prime and Grimlock two-pack will also see a decrease.

Yes, but they don't decide to sell a set at certain price and then choose what bung in it based on that do they? This whole lot of Platinum Editions are based on the movie so using masterpiece figures isn't relevant, it would just defeat the object and they just wouldn't bother at all.
Yeah, the Breakout Battle isn't one of their official shared exclusives, it's one of the many other exclusives which they've probably had to import, hence the higher pricing.
QUOTE=Timothy.R;11817168]i just don't understand how anyone could like this figure… even if you like the version of sideswipe that comes with it.. paying $100+ for that isn't worth it.
why couldn't hasbro use the new remolded version of prime that takara used?.. i probably still wouldn't get it, but at least it'd look like they're trying.[/QUOTE]
Probably because the Platinum Editions were already in development before Hasbro could've known about Takara making AD31. These things are decided pretty early on.

To Hasbro I love ya all you are the best but on this piece being priced this way,

Now to retailers I have no love for ya
So on this i say GFY

170 is hard to swallow. Best to ask a relative to buy this for me for Christmas
G.B. Blackrock
I'd think you'd have to ask someone who actually does so. I doubt you'll find such a person here.
Treadshot 2.0
Now, why would anybody ever buy that for more than an actual master piece Optimus Prime costs?

Nevermore
Astrotrain was the first Hasbro Toy Shop exclusive. Only Side Swipe ended up with KB, and only in the US. In Canada and Australia, he did make it to TRU, while Astrotrain was never officially available in Canada and as a Kmart exclusive in Australia.

When they sold at all, that is.
By the time they were clearanced to $4 (that MAY be the lowest I saw them, but I'm sure stories vary elsewhere), they had such a stench of shelfwarmer around them that no one would buy them at ANY price!
(Which, of course, is why Sideswipe and — I think — Astrotrain never made it to TRU at all. KB eventually picked them up, but the damage was done)
Afterburner
Their margins are huge and well beyond normal figures when it comes to exclusives. G1 Reissues often sold for more than double the unit cost.

TRU as a chain will sit on that shit for YEARS….they can out wait folks on anything easily….Their version of clearance does not really exist as most imagine clearance…TRU clearance usually means they knock $10 off the price …..very rarely does it get reduced more than that the first year in store.
I went into the TRU in Tucson in 2005 and they still had some old Beast Machines stock that they must have located from the back and stuck it on their pegs…no clearance …regular priced still….and you are talking a couple years sitting in that store….
got me the black che beast rider that day for $10

I don't think they care. If Toys R Us jacks up the price high enough they probably can still turn a profit selling these things on clearance. At this point I think that Toys R Us is more than prepared to let these things sit on shelves for months or even years. The profit margin on these exclusives must be huge.

2 Pack still there, $98.99:

oku
Hasbro's trolling us.

I could've sworn TRU had the Prime Grimlock two pack for less on their site earlier. Seems they raised the price a bit?
Thefallenfell
Why are so many people complaining about the price this thing is around $320 in Australia so $160 is nothing for what's in it
Leader class figure- $80
Deluxe figure- $30
MP-10 trailer- $90?
So that's at least $200 worth of stuff
DrunkOnEnergon
And one more thing. Even though I'm trashing it or whatnot, I think if it was sitting on my kitchen island, I would probably be stoked. It does seem pretty badass, aside from my complaints.
