Hasbro Trademark Reveals the Return of Transformers Combiners

Posted on 06-28-2012 at 02:30 PM by SilverOptimus under Transformers Movie Toys & Products (All Transformers Movie News)
Transformers-Combiners
Whenever Hasbro applies for a new Trademark, there is a chance that we’ll most probably see or hear about it at some point later. It may take few days or maybe even years (Mind you, Airachnid’s toy was revealed more than three years after the Trademark application).

United States Patent And Trademark Office reveals a new Hasbro Trademark titled “Combiners”.

The trademark is categorized under the same description given to any other Transformers Trademark:
“Toy action figures, toy vehicles and toy robots convertible into other visual toy forms”

You can find more details at USPTO and keep it up with TFW2005 for latest news… first.

More combiners is always a good thing. ALWAYS.
T4mercustomz
Does this mean we might get menasor, devy etc?
ThatOddGuy
Yes! Yessssssssssssss....
Mechafire
Most interesting.

The combiner concept hasn't been done right since G1. We'll see what happens with this one.
Jacer
hope it works better than PCC. I have some high hopes for this.
Sinnertwin
I'm crying
G1Wheeljack
I'm not sure this will be a whole toyline, maybe they're just securing the name to hold onto/use for future figures. Either way it's good though, as it pretty much means more combiners.
Autobot Burnout
Well, I don't feel so compelled to buy FoC Bruticus anymore to support more combiners.

Still hoping for that Menasor, though.
kaijuguy19
I'm hoping it'll be more like how FOC Bruticus and the Third party company combiners are like then the PPC figures.
BlueAngel_Bolt
Okay Hasbro, your Powercore Combiner line was more or less a flop with shitty QC and an automorph gimmick that worked about as well as an Xbox with Red Ring.

Hopefully you've learned your lesson. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out.

More Powercore repaints!

Package front will be generic artwork with an illustration of SDCC Bruticus.
Optimus Prime
Here's hoping for a Generations Predaking. If they do Devastator, everyone's just going to compare it to Hercules and say that it's terrible.

We all thought when Hasbro applied for some Jem and the Holograms trademarks, they were just to secure the name. Today, after nearly half a year... it turns out Hasbro is about to release a new full toyline for the brand:
Optimatron
Lol...If FOC Bruticus, and the PCC line is any indication of what they will be offering, I'm not interested.

It's a shame too because I would like to buy officially updated G1 combiners, especially if they could offer the amount of detail and articulation TFC has.

You'd think with how successfull Hastak is...they could afford to devote the R&D and make some truely amazing combiners, kinda like an MP line.

If they did that, I think most fans would prefer to spend the money on something official. I love TFC and Hercules, but something official that could be not just an hommage but actual recreation is much more interesting to me as a collector.

Unfortunately...FOC Bruticus does not look to be the best start.
Optimus1116
This should be good news! We really have to thank the guys at High Moon. They revived a lot of cool stuff from G1 that would have been retired otherwise (Beast alt modes, and combiners).

The majority of the PCC Commander figures were actually decent-to-excellent scout class figures, don't write them all off (except Double Clutch, he legitimately sucks)

A revival of an old 80's brand name...that I actually have no problem with. Maybe they'll make a new show for it too, the track record for new HUB original programming is pretty good so far.
Barricade24
Provided they aren't painted as terribly as the FOC ones, I might be interested in this line.
ARTIMUS ONE
Hopefully if they are combiners they wont look like that walking pile of crap that was ROTF. Ugh!! please stick to the classic design format and make them look like recognizable robots.
StayingInTheBox
Hopefully a good sign of good things to come.

There's so much anticipation for proper combiners*, and a pretty strong undercurrent of frustration with Hasbro at the moment.... that i hope these are done well.

*proper combiners: No mold reuse, or at least extensive retooling where there is, each component has three modes.

Oh I know. I didn't mean to imply that the commanders sucked too. Most of them redeem the line.

Here is my list of unreasonable and unrealistic expectations, that will in no way ever come true:

Hasbro bought or assimilated all the third party companies and will release Giant, Hercules, and Uranus under their own name.

Hasbro will release Generations versions of all Scramble City combiner teams with realistic altmodes, at the traditional (e.g., larger) deluxe scale, along with Voyager-sized torsos/team leaders.

Hasbro has decided that, more than anything, they want to make their fanboy demographic of 20-50 year-old men their primary market.
Kaijumaster
well, only took until the seventh post for someone to start whining about what one single word might apply to, but I'll say "Yay combiners!"

Fixed.
Robogeek28
If Hasbro knew how to make good combiners I'd be more interested, but after what's been put out recently (PCC, FOC Bruticus) I just don't see any reason to get my hopes up.

I fully expect backlash on that comment in 3...2....

Honest question: Do you think their lackluster sales have anything to do with the fact that their primary marketing device (30-minute animated commercials) air on a premium cable station that many kids just don't have? Or am I naive to believe that people of lower socioeconomic status are saving money by not paying through the nose for cable? I've seen some very poor people pay some serious dinero for smart phone plans and expansive cable packages, so maybe I'm way off base.
deathsheadII
not holding my breath for good g1 based combiners from hastak but would be so bloody nice...they must see what tfc and maketoys have done and are planning to do! surely this would make them think there is actually money to be made going by these 2 company's success with combiners
TWINTURBO
Menasor would be nice, and the king would be to,
adamthered
If they look as bad as FoC Bruticus color me disinterested.
Pencoin
I hope this arrives sooner then later. Aswell I hope the designers have taken notes from the 3rd party combiners. The new Devastator looks awful even the SDCC colours.

No smart comments like Hasbro can't make a herc-level figure. I'm well aware but they can do much better then the FOC Combaticons.
Shadowbreaker
If these are legit combiners like FOC Bruticus, I'm all in.
Driskull98
I'm quite positive this has something to do with FOC Bruticus.

It's one of several possible reasons why Prime could be falling short of what Hasbro want the line to do. They want a supporting media, they don't want to pay Paramount royalties, and Cartoon Network didn't work too well.
Incepticon
*anticipates and prepares for an avalanche of underwhelm*

FOC Bruticus is a legitimate combiner? I will reserve my opinion until I have it in hands. It looks a bit more floppy then it should. And the proportions are just off a bit. It's a good "base" for 3rd party to make add-on's. That's for sure.
Onslaught24
this pleases the Onslaught
cryotek
It will be another crappy combiner that will use 2 of the same molds again to cut down on the cost.
2ndSndWve
... since when does "combiners" need to be trademarked?
B-Fox
"Blah, blah, I spent $300 plus dollars on a third-party KO combiner and must justify my expensive purchase by deriding any and all figures even slightly related to it made by Hasbro."

aka Every thread about Combiners.

Not sure if I'll even care that much about this. 3rd parties have filled all my combiner wants.
mfic99us
Interesting news! No doubt they have caught onto the amounts of moneys people have dropped on some of the 3rd party stuff that has been coming out the past couple of years. But honestly I would be more excited if it was Takara Tomy who is handling this situation. Between them and Hasbro, TT has come out with some legit fan/collector focused material like the MP line. While Hasbro is catching on somewhat, they still seem to be more kid-oriented.

Only time will tell I suppose...
optics
It'll be PCC 2.0 or (1.0000000000....1) .... They gotta repaint old molds, right?

I imagine Hasbro may want to make a line called Transformers: Combiners or something of the sort.
