Dark of the Moon Cyberverse Ultimate Gift Set Released

The buzz might be all about Transformers Prime toys and this big chap named Hercules lately - but Dark of the Moon is not yet done! The Wal-Mart exclusive Cyberverse "Ultimate" Gift Set has been quietly popping into stores all over the place (so quietly we're not exactly sure when or where it first popped up...)

The set consists of recolors of Autobots Optimus Prime, Powerglide, Sideswipe and Bumblebee, all of whom stand united against the lone Decepticon Crowbar. Perhaps the "Ultimate" in the set name refers to the scale of the beating Crowbar's going to get?

Keep up to date with the latest new findings in your area in our Transformers Sightings board.

Nice set wish it would be sold in the UK.

Hey, where are you? (ie: what state)
The Dark Seeker
Oooh...nice! Guess I'm going to be on the look out for one of these. I want that green powerglide!
Treadshot A1
Been out for weeks here, in Perth Australia, and I remember seeing it being reported elsewhere in the states as well.
Ellamin
Is the price $16.97?

Is the green powerglide a decepticon after all, or really Green Powerglide?
Deceptigtar
Ultimate my ass, one con? Pfffft.
Inciteful
Just got them in Peoria, IL last night. $29.96 is the price. EDIT: UPC: 6 53569 69737
Gilgamesh
Optimus: "Hey gang, let's beat the shit out of Crowbar. One shall fall indeed."

Autobots: *fist bump*

nathan_s82
A definite buy for me!
Noideaforaname
I want that green Fuzor Sky Shadow-inspired Powerglide, but not enough to pick up all the other guys with him.
Barricade24
Crowbar is screwed.

It's alright.

Pass, pass, easy pass.
Kaymac
Cool! I like that Crowbar repaint.
TrueNomadSkies
Swap away!
Boy Blunder
Poor Crowbar's gonna get creamed...
Apoclatron5675
Saw this thing yesterday, and its $30 definite pass but those new deluxe two packs for $10, now thats not too bad
Robogeek28
Your Wal-mart actually has shelfspace for something new? Mine hasn't gone past wave 3 yet.
Ironhidebot
The powerglide redeco reminds me of deluxe air raid...strange, but an easy pass
TrueNomadSkies
Honestly, I don't understand products like this because the main selling point of Legends is their lowest price point... which this defeats. Like, I could understand if it came with a really cool deluxe voyager that wasn't available anywhere else because that + cool little repaints would have more appeal, but that Prime already has multiple versions & is a shelfwarmer no less.

Next time, lets have 1 cool deluxe, 2 repainted legends, and a neat assortment of weapons that come with a case that can be carried by a larger figure & mini comic book instead.
Shockwave9227
Easy pass but it looks rather nice and makes it alot easier for people to get it all in one go when they can't find them seperatley but the price point is kind of high for Legion figures.
havanowoncheese
For me its a pass since i already have half the set. Price wise its not a deal but its not a bad price. 2 commander MSRP $8= 16. 3 Legion MSRP 5=15
Total price would be 31 so one would save a buck. Eh

Maybe because instead of parents buying a bunch of the smaller figures, they can just buy one box with a bunch of them in one set (and Prime and Bumblebee present doesn't hurt either)? If the price was more expensive than those same figures would be sold individually, than yes I wouldn't understand the point (doesn't TRU do this with some of their exclusives?) but since it's not, who cares? Customers aren't being charged more for this than the equivalent of the same class-size stuff hanging on racks being sold individually, so I don't see how this defeats the purpose of anything.
TrueNomadSkies
Well, I said that it defeats the purpose of having a lower price point because in total, it's like you're buying all of them together/spending what you would be spending on a larger one. In other words, you might as well buy shit separately because there isn't a lot in here that would warrant the purchase on its own.

Guess it's being marketed as a gift set though, so that makes sense.
Noideaforaname
If this was just Crowbar, Sideswipe, and Powerglide I'd buy it in a heartbeat (even though I already own 2 of those molds, and Powerglide's the only one I really want), but they just had to put Optimus AND Bumblebee in it...

I think that's all relative though...plus, for those on a budget that prefer taking advantage of lower price points, but still want to shell out a bit, relatively speaking, for Christmas, I think just about any Cyberverse/Legends multi-pack may be preferable to deluxe/voyager three-packs in terms of cost and quantity of product available.
TrueNomadSkies
Nono I mean like, there isn't anything in the set that really warrants buying the set just for that, as the most expensive piece (prime) is already available as two deluxe on its own, both of which are major shelfwarmers. If they at least made it a black repaint or something more unique, then it'd be like damn, I've gotta get it, but with the green Powerglide being the clutch toy... not so much.

For example, the Battle In Space has Cyclonus, the ark set has the ship, the commander sets have the trailers, the two packs with Ironhide & Megatron are cheaper, etc, but this one is mainly a mashup where the largest thing isn't a draw. That's part of why I don't expect this to be a big hit.

Though I don't know if some of your examples work entirely (Did Battle in Space sell well everywhere, because a bunch just sat at my local TRU and Walmart compared to the actual RtS deluxes, and I haven't been able to tell how well the Arks have been selling...your choices still seem a bit relative, especially from a collector's point of view), I do agree that the repaints here are largely uninspired (outside of the green Powerglide, though the Crowbar is attractive to me since it reminds me a lot of the Prime Vehicons)...but you can make that case for A LOT of Hasbro same-character redecoes, be they individual releases or multi-packs, and yet Transformers have generally sold well in spite of a bevy of marginally different Prime and Bumblebee (and other big name characters') toys routinely arriving on shelves. Though yes, some don't move very fast (or at all, like Tuner Mudflap), it hasn't created an overwhelming amount of shelfwarmers that's forced Hasbro to change their tactics and get more creative or edgy with their redeco choices. Though 3-4 of these particular redecoes could qualify as pointless (slightly different Stealth Bumblebee, Optimus with more black, and Sideswipe with stripes), I don't think the release itself is pointless since Hasbro keeps going back to this well and the major retailers aren't exactly stopping them by refusing to carry these exclusives. For whatever reason, it apparently works for both parties.

I don't deny the possibility that this particular set could shelfwarm after all, or that customers (kids, parents and relatives with kids to shop for) could finally start to reject some or even many of these marginally different redecoes finally (especially when so many of the "normal" or more accurate versions are still available on shelves right now anyways). I just don't know if it'll necessarily happen during the holiday season.

I'd certainly love a Classics multi-pack or something like you suggested with exclusive weapons, but I understand why Hasbro may be hesitant to offer those as exclusives if they think (or know) the major retailers won't bite anyways. I do wonder why the Prime/Bumblebee/Megs/Sideswipe/Ironhide/etc. redecoes aren't more dramatically different (I've seen different kinds of Iron Man, Spiderman and Batman toys, among other things, that switch up the deco from the traditional look greatly over the past few years), but hey, whatever works.
TrueNomadSkies
Yeah, growing up with super hero shit was vastly different because we had tonnes & tonnes of Batmans... many of which were drastically their own characters. Also, you're right about some of my examples sucking ass because honestly, I think all of the multi packs shelfwarm for a long time.

Guess we'll find out how this one does, though.
Omegatron
This has shown up at my local WM as well, Soylent Green Powerglide, Purple People Eater Crowbar and everything.
Prowl4680
I fail to see where the level of "Ultimate" can be given to this gift set....
DJW107PRIME
That seems really unfair.

Maybe that is their way of branding a giftset with a lot of figures
Tman978
This has my son writen all over it. I hope I see it soon.
xanthax
This thing has been at several walmarts here for about a week. I wish the price was better, I'd love that green Powerglide.
SKowl
Love how the big box with its huge graphics is trying desperately to hide the fact that you're paying way too much for 5 crappy little toys.
vrba79
Lol! Someone needs to do a deco of him after he's had the shit kicked out of him.
blackout501st
I refuse to get this set for 2 reasons: one, an awesome powerglide and crowbar repaint are Not worth the prime bb and sideswipe that also come with. Two, this set is obviously
prejudice tword decepticons.
Enigma2K2
Already have a Powerglide... in a better color. PASS.
knightmare6
Crowbar gonna' get hurt even worse than Harding vs. Kerrigan!
