Buyer Beware: Knock Off Human Alliance Leadfoot

A new knock off item has popped up and the good folks over at Hobbybase Japan have provided us with some comparison pictures. This time, it's a knock off version Dark of The Moon Human Alliance Leadfoot. If you're in the market for one of these, please note the following differences:
  • Original has "Hub" label and laser label with code.
  • The plastic window of the packing on the KO version is more "yellow" than the original.
  • The sealed code at the bottom of the box has more space between the numbers on the KO version.

Click the title bar to check out the photos and then head over to the 2005 Boards to discuss how to make sure you secure or have secured an original.

Hot Shot.
Oh, yes. Bootlegs are so wonderful. They provide a cheaper alternative to the real thing, and are in no way meant to fool unsuspecting buyers.

Right guys?

Uh...guys? Where'd you go?
Feralstorm
I'm surprised there's demand enough for a bootleg of that.
harrismonkey
Good to know.

How do we know it's a KO to begin with? (not that it isn't)
Hiro Prime
Thanks for the heads up.

This is just a another example as to why KO makers just suck.

Seems to have been very hit or miss on distribution. We barely had them here (Toledo). But when I went to denver last they were clearancing them by the boatload. (which I gather happened in a few places)
miscreant
Isnt this thing rotting in Target branches?
MegaHavok
This thing got clearance down to 10 bucks in my neighborhood so whats the point?

This thing, like so many others, never made it to some countries, like mine.
In the US, at least in some places, you can get it for just a bit more than is the regular retail price of Cyberverse legion figures in Slovakia (6.00 - 6.50EUR). But I have to pay eBay price + priority shipping from US to Europe + import tax and at that point the KO may just turn out cheaper.

Between this and the KO HA Barricade, I'm guessing these arent "true KOs," rather they're someone making another batch with the same molds and selling them on the black market. They're still not legit, but the figures themselves are apparently exactly the same.
Stepper
The toy itself look exactly the same as the original version
Outsider4Life
chimungmung has these instock for anyone looking to buy it:
chimungmung Toy Shop
at $45+ shipping I don't see how this is a deal. The real thing can still be found at clearance prices in the US.

The same toy from the same mold at the same factory made by the same workers is legit enough for me.

This one is just plain unneeded, though.

No one can prove it.

So they're still shitty then...bummer.
Lumpy
you know, if someone's going to KO any DOTM figure, they should just KO deluxe Top Spin, but upsize him to meet the HA scale... sure, it won't be exactly the same, but at least you could have all 3 Wreckers finally...

exactly, I have no idea what was being thought of with this KO....unless, Wait they didn't get the Target Deco in Asia did they? Maybe this is aimed at an exclusivly Asian audience.
Lucs
I'd buy the dog guy from this set just to have more. The only reason I got one at super clearance was the dog and I was hoping LF wasn't as bad as it looked but I was wrong.

What a bad call for a bootleg. They should be trying to get HA Soundwave or whichever of the twins Skids/Mudflap was hard to get.

Pretty much this. Have to remember that there are no Targets in Asia, and the Target logo on this toy made it a trademark issue, I'd imagine.

If it really is workers in the official factory, who are just making more of the mold to be sold on the black market-then someone needs to send them a memo asap to make "knock off's" of the first edition Prime figures asap. Especially Voyager Optimus and Bulkhead. Just saying

im down for that...or KO the HA Roadbuster and retool for topspin, and or retool HA leadfoot and armor him up

if the mold is made in vietnam, i might have some cousins who work in the factories lol...
Leather Elbows
I checked. Mine is definitely the real deal.

Where do you think those FE Bulkheads came from?
Steenblock
Ummmm a vietnamese or chinese factory ....? I dont know. Do you have a specific address, cause if you do I'd like to pay them a visit one of these days, and give those underpaid workers a big hug to say "thank you, if it wasnt for you guys I wouldn't be able to feed my plastic crack addiction". j/k.
Ultra BuckNutz
It would be pretty hard for the knock off to suck worse than the real deal, but as a few others have already pointed out... why even make a knock off of this one. Seems they would lose money on the cost of plastic alone given the zero demand.
micky24
maybe they are the same guys who made those legit looking bootleg deluxe sideswipe and bumblebee a few years ago and i hope they make a bootleg, dlx leadfoot, que and soundwave and mass produce them for cheaper price

in a year from now HA Leadfoot will be wanted.

Look at Barricade. That toy got SO much hate at first, and now everyone wants one and pay out the butt for it.

Give it some time, and Leadfoot will be pretty desirable after everyone has opened and trashed em, the few that remain MISB will be sought after.

Yea dude. I dont care...can you imaging them making a box that had a bootleg dlx leadfoot Que and soundwave?!? shit, just KO em and toss em in a box without packaging..

Hasbro wont do it, then by all means, KO to the rescue.
automan224
Considering most people already have Leadfoot I don't see how this will affect people

Now if it was a ko of the deluxe Leadfoot I can understand
Enigma2K2
I'm good. I don't even want the official one!
Maetel
yeah like every one said, why?? there's really no demand for this one. i regret spending $30+ on it when it came out and even at half off i didn't want to buy extras as trade fodders. if there's actually demand for target logoed ones in asia, i'm sure bargain hunters that picked these up at target clearance would be more than happy to sell it near the msrp.
Girl Pants
Why bootleg this? As far as I know there wasn't a significant shortage. Maybe there was a shortage at the time they started the process.

Either way, I don't see why anyone would go for the KO, unless it costs $5 or something.

i wouldn't mind if its well packaged or not as long as it has the same articulation and super similar to original but only cheaper i would love to buy that bootleg.

Yeah. I could see someone making a fair bit of money if they could produce a good KO of DX Leadfoot, Que, Soundwave, or the Prime FE toys.
AutoBobby
Who the heck would go through the trouble of making a fake of this big piece of crap?

Yeah, I wonder how long till we see a ko HA Soundwave. At least that would make sense. I have a real one though. Well at least as far as I know. Lol
Grimlock64
Heh, if this one is so bad, I'm glad I don't even have a Target in my town to begin with. XD Then again, this might also be who the bootlegs are aimed at: People who don't have a Target close by to get one. the closest one to me is an hour's drive away.
RedAlert Rescue
Considering the only difference anyone could find on HA Barricade was the placement of the L on his tail in car mode and the plastic colour and other marking are identical I don't think theses are knock off's the might be Saturday Night specials instead.

If there's no quality difference and the only difference is a batch colouring difference of the bubble and and some missing stickers - I think it's to early to say this is Knock Off it could be a batch made for Target branches outside the USA such as Australia and that would explain the slight packaging differences..

And Guys this toy only came out in a few places internationally most or all of Europe didn't get it at all blank paint or otherwise. so Plenty of people have it if you live in a country with a target store but if you don't you perhaps didn't get him unless you were hooked up or bought an imported one.

Possibly on to something there?

As for going to the trouble of making them, left over parts?

Hear hear. I won't buy KOs new; that is, straight from retail, but I will buy them used since the KO-er has already made his money from the original sale. But in the case of all the awesome DOTM figs that were either kept from US stores (e.g. Dlx Leadfoot) or never even designed (e.g. HA Topspin), I'll break that rule. If Hasbro's not smart enough to tap that market, then dammit, China take my money.

I sold two on ebay just recently.

I had a seller who was based in China (and had a California address) who contacted me and wanted to buy both of them.

When I looked at the buyer's feedback he had already bought dozens of HA Leadfoots.

It must be a hot item in China.
Mister Gone
lol There were like 40+ of those things stacked up at my local Target for 50% off.

I wish they had been like that at one of the Targets near me. They may have been there, but I never saw any--even at full price. I do have one though (purchased for semi-cheap off of eBay some time ago), so I need to check and see if it is an authentic one.

Maybe, but I saw a dollar store in my town selling Legends movie toys with the label "Robo-Changers." No creds to Hasbro or Takara whatsoever. They were also color-changed, and badly painted. On top of that, the cheapest plastic was used on the things.
Mrvash104
this is one of the most ballsy KOs i have ever seen they dont even try to change transformers logo or anything

Same here. What was his ebay name?
CplChrissandwch
I like how it says original has Hub logo and Kos don't...well, when transformers are sold in Canada, the Hub logo is either taken off or covered. So, I guess everything in Canada is a KO?
Bumblebee765
Shoot, this could cause some trouble for me, but I do doubt it. Leadfoot is one figure I really want to track down, but I want the Hasbro edition. I doubt these knock offs will have too many put into circulation, so I think it will still be pretty easy for me to find the regular release.
