Universe Superion in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Packaging TSF-Universe-Superion-01
We have received official images of the upcoming Transformers Superion giftset. However, these pictures contrary to previous images that showed Superion in a 25th Anniversary Universe box show Superion in Movie-themed Transformers Revenge of the Fallen packaging. Therefore this is also our very first look at the packaging for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! Of particular interest, note the Egyptian theme to the packaging insert card, which fits together with previous reports of an Egyptian tie in the sequel (as well as the "Cyberglyphics" trademark application) and the mysterious set of four eyes in the middle of the top of the packaging.

Update - the official images have now been added to our resources section!

General Tekno:
Over at the Allspark, this was posted which clearly shows Transformers Universe Superion in Revenge of the Fallen packaging.

Which makes me wonder if Hasbro's pushing back the gestalt release.

Still, it's a first look at the ROTF packaging.

Bass X0:
imagine if these guys were actually in the movie.
a person:
I love the title used on the packaging... Didn't we see that title a while ago and it was thought of as fan-art?

EDIT: Yes we did, although it was a Decepticon logo. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/196065-new-movie-logo.html
Megatronwp38:
oDD.
General Tekno:
Oh - another comment - this got pointed out to me by Ra88. At the top of the window... is that a face?

I see eyes - could that be the Fallen?
Chosen:
I can't believe I didn't notice before that one of the Aerialbots was paying homage to Energon Starscream... but that was probably mentioned already. I didn't read most of the combiner news thread.

ANYWAY. Packaging! That is beautiful! Sure, it's still mostly red, but it's definitely differentiated from both Movie 1 and Universe. Daddy likes.
Darth Rodimus:
waste of a mold, paint, packaging, and Target's time!
Feralstorm:
that box looks like a bitch-pain to open.
General Tekno:
Maybe Hasbro's anticipating Superion to shelfwarm, so they're repackaging him already?

Or maybe they did the Universe packaging first, and decided at some point during production to shift these figs into ROTF's toyline instead.
SPLIT LIP:
Really nice packaging. Digging the symbols on the inside.
General Tekno:

Not really.... there's an "inner box" if you look carefully. It looks to me like the cardboard is an outer "pretender" shell over a clear plastic box inside.

I dunno, closer look has me thinking that at the end of the day it's just another "pop flap, pull insides". The zigzaggidy stuff looks like it has a clear plastic window-frame right underneath.

It's definitely eyecatching packaging, so grats there. I can dig it. Liking that the robot mugshot is more of a profile angle than a full-on "HEWWO DERE" deal.
General Tekno:
But what about the set of eyes on the box that look ominous?

And also... I note that the cyberglyphs are on a surface that makes it look like it's a tablet form ancient Egypt or something (I don't see them as coming from a metal world - plus the layout seems like that as well). Not to mention there's Autobot and Decepticon insignias engraved on it, which suggests it dates to after the war began.
Venksta:
The art for the head looks almost like a 3d model. I think its done by the same artist who did the head art for the first movie toys, but this time, their drawing them at an angle instead of front view.
0R10N P4X:
The movie is not even out that we're getting repaints already! LOL!

Mind you, these repaints were already slated for Universe.
aprim:
I like him better the Brticus, and better them all of the movie toys...even though hes a repaint he looks good.
Ravenxl7:
Interesting, very interesting. Looks like we'll get two chances to get the sets, or at least Superion, though I think it's very unlikely that they'd do this to one and not the other. These are also the first official pictures of these figures.
megatronkicksas:
(watch in order)Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo and such

Blackout:
Gotta get used to the new packaging. Not bad though.

That might be Devastator or new Megatron's face.
Optimus747:
Crud, I suppose that means this and Bruticus won't see a U.S. release until May-ish.
Off to eBay...
Bgrngod:
Don't forget about how we got "preview" figures before the first big wave of figures hit for the first movie.

I bet this gets tucked into an early wave as an exclusive or something. I'd bet we see it around March or so.
Beastbot X:
That's some ridiculously awesome packaging, right there.
Eric:
That is the most sexiest packaging I've ever seen.
MushroomPrime:
I still think that Sports Label beats this for packaging, but darn if it isn't every bit as cool looking.
Bumblejazz:
Man, that is some nice packaging.
Brave Magnus:
I like the box art. Too bad, at least for me, that only Stormjet looks good in "G1" color scheme, otherwise i would buy the set. BEsides i already have E-Superion.
magmatron:
We need Back and side pics, ASAP!
Nevermore:

Not from this batch. These are just official Hasbro stock photos. They usually don't include back and side views.
mirarage:
Here's a pic of the box
for anyone who'd like to see it

I'll bet those symbols in the box are the same
one's that sam's rumored to see in the movie.

It's a target exclusive.
Probably be on an endcap on the day movie toy are out.

Maybe the universe packaging is for overseas markets.
US might only be getting movie packaging.
ilikepuppies:
well they said they were stopping the universe line for rotf so i guess they wanted to sell these enough to repackage them
Zherbus:

So, if I guess correctly, they will push for a 25th Anniversary extravaganza for a bit (so we likely will see the normal Universe packaging for Superion). Once they reach a certain point, like April or so, they'll be advertising the movie on every product. I wonder if they'll do that for TF:A stuff too.
SmokescreenGT:
Nice packaging. The "face" at the top looks interesting. Very evil!
NemesisBruticus:
....what?

I'm telling you guys, I have this huge feeling that Egypt and Egyptian legend is the key to TFTM2: The Fallen is a robot/robots that visited earth back in Egyptian golden days, provided the advancements that led to Egyptian civilization (heiroglyphs, math, astronomy, architecture, etc.) and the building of the pyramids (which are really technology for use of the robots, space bridges to cybertron or whatever), then The Fallen went offline or froze up for some reason (purposeful or accidental) and now in TFTM2 gets woken up again and busts out of a pyramid to make his/their debut. Oh and by the way the Egyptian cultural style is a product of this contact and the Pharaoahs' helmets and dress and the very idea of a Pharoah come from The Fallen, who was Egypt's first Pharoah (and became the worshiped God RA) and whose likeness all succeeding Pharoahs imitated.

When the movie comes out you can all come yell at me for spoiling it for you.
ntsan:
I wonder if they will rebrand on the Devastator too?
Bumblethumper:
... good god that new ROTF packaging is a hideous mismash. The Universe packaging has heaps more class, and is vastly superion.

I hope the final ROTF packaging is more focused and awesome. This is just a mess.

I remember being tempted by the first wave of Universe Legends figures mostly on account of the packaging being new. You're checking the toy aisles every other week, you can get kind of excited and irrational at the first sign of new packaging. Looks like Hasbro intends to cash in on the forthcoming movie hype.

I just hope the kids aren't disappointed when they go to the movie and their expensive new toy is nowhere to be seen in all the action.

Not that I don't like this idea...

But after Ra dies, do his fellow Fallen Transformers turn out to be beings who can inject their sparks into any life form and control it (a parasitic way of survival), and that they use humans as slaves across the galaxy?

And NEST has a Space Bridge in their basement?

What if the Egyptian Gods and beings like Anubis and Horus actually turn out to be Decepticons? That Crocodile/Lion thing could be Ravage or something.
megatronkicksas:
Its the fallen

Oh. And once the 'cons are finally beat, the Quintessons show up.

And start converting Cybertronians to Origin - a religion that states that the Quintessons created the Transformers.
Hiro Prime:
Bah. I'm still setting them up next to my Universe 2.0 toys on my shelf where I've already made space for them. (which I also did with the last round of Deluxe exclusives as they were originally ment to be Universe 2.0)
Sage o' G-fruit:
What intrigues me is the packaging. If the gestalt is pushed back, ah well. But if the packaging, and indeed this entire thing is true, then THAT is something to chat about.

It looks like Brawl. notice the eyes and the mouth. The Fallen was a TANK after all...

I hope the Universe 2.0 packaging gets released first. I liked that one more, especially the silver and all the Anniversary decorations.

it;s not wreckage, that face is shown behind wreckage in the flash of light on the movie prequel comic, comparison:

that IS the fallen.
Takara_destron:
I can't say I'm a fan of that packaging shape.

EDIT: Ah I just noticed it is rectangular (couldnt see the bubble sticking out), I guess thats not so bad then.
thygriever:
i think superion's cg head looks kinda weird =\

anyways, the box looks cool but the toy definitely doesn't look very movie-esque to me

"And lo! A cloaked Cybertronian did step through the Spacebridge and to the masses he did say, hallowed are the Quintessons."
