 | | | | | | | Transformers Blu-Ray Features Listed at IGN | | Posted on 08-05-2008 at 04:23 PM by fosterlager | Ign.com has revealed a list of special features to be included on the upcoming September 2nd Blu-Ray Two-Disc Special Edition release. The film will be the first Paramount movie to incorporate BD Live capabilities: Features include an Intelligence Mode in which an on-screen dashboard over the film provides information about the robots and weapons, their strength levels, character updates, a GPS Locator and more. The Transformers Profiler can be activated at any time during the film and allows viewers to access detailed information about the cast, voice talent and filmmakers including biographies and filmographies, as well as extensive production notes on the movie itself. The Menubots can be downloaded through BD-Live and give fans the option to customize their in-movie menus with Optimus Prime, Megatron or Bumblebee themes.
The original story, listing even more features, can be found here!

So it looks like it has the SAME features of the HD-DVD (which they failed to point out) as well as gimmicky stuff like customizable menus, and more downloadable crap on the screen when viewing.
Would it have killed them to include turnarounds for ALL of the robots? I thought the words "Bluray" and "Definitive" meant a little more.
Dropshot:
Cool features...but a GPS locator?!

Railguard:
It sounds like it was a good idea to not run out and buy a Blue Ray player. Huh.
Ceerad:
I can't wait for this.
I've had the PS3 since last July.
Finally upgraded from 1080i to 1080p this July.
Boy am I glad Blu-Ray won.
Makes me feel more smarter.

More than enough reason for me to double dip.
Laughing Man:
Awesome, can't wait for this. Finally looking forward to Transformers in HD!
Ghost Rider:
*runs into living room and hugs his PS3*
kronos:
I called it a few months back, but watch, the Trailer for ROF will be sneak previewed via BD Live!

I am a very bad shopper at Frys. Quote:

Halo:
over here at Suncoast, we've gotten over 30 reservations already for this movie...

Here's the simple answer. Just as the video is compressed on DVD, the audio is also compressed to fit. Bluray allows for not only HD video but also HD audio codecs.
Bahamut Prime:
Hm... considering I got the special edition, and thinking of getting a PS3 (since my PS2 went kaput), should the Blu-Ray DVD be worth it?

VaderPrime1:
Yeah, I just read the post by IGN and the GPS feature is going to be AWSOME!!!! Sorry to you people who can't get the downloads, you'll be missing out on the goods.
P.S. I would like to see what happened to Barricade.

Josh:
so same features as the HD-DVD version?
eh
might get it eventually but its nothing i'll rush out to get right away
NIDARAM12:
About the GPS... like.... for the first part of the movie the Autobots are in space and the only ones really running around are Scorponok and Blackout. We know where BB is. I guess it will show Starscream flying around on his way to the dam? I guess it's just going to be a bunch of dots on a map with bs made up to show them traveling from location to location.
Enigma2K2:
Ahhhh yes.... my first... and ONLY Blu Ray purchase...
ChldsPlay:
If I remember right from the last time I saw the GPS thing on the HD-DVD it basically shows on a little map where the characters are (I think with dots) and has the "energy" level for each character which decreases when they take damage. I believe Barricade's life bar just disappears shortly after Bonecrusher's death. It's an interesting feature that adds a new way to watch the movie once more.
Of course I've edited the movie and cut out the whole Barricade reappearing and then disappearing as well as some other stupid crap. Sadly it's just the DVD version so I'm not sure I'll even ever watch it. Once I can edit the Blu-ray one though I'll watch that.
Like others, we're getting Blu-ray simply for the sound options not on the HD-DVD.
Trailbreaker77:
Pre-ordered already I can't wait until the 2nd movie hits next year.

On top of that not only can you play games, but you can also DL new trailers and such off the playstation network. I use it more for movies then games...
just keep in mind that the 20gb and 40gb version of the PS3 do NOT have playback compatibility meaning you can't play PS2 and PS1 games. Only the 60gb, 80gb, and the new 120gb have the playback feature

just keep in mind that the 20gb and 40gb version of the PS3 do NOT have playback compatibility meaning you can't play PS2 and PS1 games. Only the 60gb, 80gb, and the new 120gb have the playback feature | PS1 game playback is purely software emulated so ALL PS3 models can play PS1 games.
The PS2 compatibility does depend on the model. The 20gb and 60gb models through hardware (basically there is a PS2 inside the PS3 minus the controller inputs) which gives the best results (these models are both off the market, but can still be obtained used). The CURRENT 80gb model (the one which comes with a Dual Shock 3 and MGS4 in a bundle) uses a combination of software and hardware which doesn't have quite as high a compatibility. The list of supported games can be found somewhere on Sony's website. The 40gb does not play any PS2 games. The same is true of an unbundled 80gb model announced for release later this year at the 40gb price of $400 (this model is basically just a 40gb model with a larger hard drive).
There were rumors of a 120gb system, but nothing official has been announced, the only thing which has been is the previously mentioned unbundled 80gb system.
So if you are looking to buy a backwards compatible PS3 the 80gb bundle is the way to go unless you want to track down a used 20 or 60 gig model.
fleshling:
Cool. Now I can have Transformers upstairs, too! If anyone is interested, I can take a look at the GPS thing tonight to see what happens to Barricade for sure. It's a cool little feature, but I can't say that I watched it all the way through. It's cool that when the Autobots get to Earth, all their little dashboards fly out and activate.
The pop-up video stuff was the best. If all the next-gen treatments were as good as the Transformers HD-DVD (features, picture), I think people would be more inclined to check out BluRay.
This really is the best disc I've ever owned. It is as impressive as when Matrix came out on DVD, and made the whole HD-DVD thing totally worth it.
There is one thing is interesting, though. On the HD-DVD, a lot of stuff isn't on the disc and was gradually added over the months (real-life Sector 7 clips of classic Bumblebee, Starscream, Grimlock, menu overlays, etc.) The only thing that they didn't get around to was the movie editor thing. Why don't they just include it on the BD now?
It would be great (as the one poster said) to get a rotating HD model of each of the robots instead of just Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Blackout, Megs and Screamer.
