Transformers 2 Toys Will Be On Shelves May 29 attachment
An employee at Walmart has posted information from their modular guide regarding the shelf reset date for movie-themed toys for later this spring. The post on a.t.t. confirms a shelf date for May 29 for Transformers 2 movie toys! Walmart's toy department top brass is expecting Transformers to be "far and away the largest action figure license for the year" and are dedicating "major space" to the upcoming line!

Jarodimus:
A Walmart employee has posted an excerpt from their Spring '09 Toys Modular Guide, revealing that the TF:ROTF toys are to be put out on May 29th, and that they expect it to be the biggest licensed toy line this year.

Quote:
*Action Figures is a "win" category for the toy department. Sales for Spring and Summer 2009 will be driven pirmarily off the new Hollywood movies coming to the big screen. Listed below are theatrical release dates which will affect the action figure category and the toy department:
○ May 1 - Wolverine (new Marvel movie)
○ May 8 - Star Trek
○ May 22nd - Terminator 4
○ June 26th - Transformers 2
○ August 7th - GI Joe

*We will do two mod updates during the season to introduce a couple of the above properties. On March 9, we will do an update to incorporate of the [sic] new Wolverine toys from Hasbro. Then on May 29th, we will do a second update to bring in all of the new Transformers 2 toys to support the movie release.

*Transformers will be far and away the largest action figure license for the year. On May 29th, when we do the mod update, we will dedicate major space on our action figure modular to support this movie event.

SPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! fantastic news!!!
neospark1:
Cool!
General Tekno:
Sweet. May 29, eh?

...oh, holy crap. This means that they'll be out during Botcon.
Heat Guy:
Can I wait that long?
Ravenxl7:
Now we know....

...and knowing is half the battle.
Octavius Prime:
The "largest action figure liscence of the year" is the part I really like hearing. I also like that it'll be on shelves a few days before the first movie toyline's release date.
Draven:
Hrm. 2 days before my birthday, and with luck I'll be at Botcon.
Bwahahahaha.
0R10N P4X:
Where's the surprise here? We knew the toys were going to be released end of May/beginning of June...
Max-prime:
Just in time for Botcon as well is seems ..... wonder how far the nearest Walmart is from the Conv. Center.
dark69:
man this rock!
General Tekno:
I might have to get movie toys at Botcon then if I can... they'll be cheaper than in Canada.
TFfan08:
Is release date for world wide or just in U.S?
AMG:
Looking forward to seeing this line of toys. If the new Leader Prime is any indication of what to expect, we could be in for some surprises.

The other half is buying all the toys
Fosterlager:
Zobovor STILL works at Walmart? I haven't been a regular at a.t.t. in over a decade and still remember his insider info from there. Poor bastard.

On-topic, I hope this means the exclusive Animated and Universe toys we've seen thus far (Sunstorm, purple Shockwave, Countdown and Darkwind) will ship before the movie push. Of course, this assumes the movie reset will occur the same time at TRU and Target, which I feel is a safe assumption.
imwthstpd:
Man!!! My heads going to explode for waiting so long!!WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO FAR AWAY!?!?!?!

I hope that sideswipe comes out then. i could care less about the scouts.

Its just 5 months and 23 days away. =)
Paradigm-Shift Prime:
May 29th, which means they'll start popping up on random retail shelves by second week of May.
Powersa:
looking forward to it

And won't ring up.
Astrotrain52:
I now see the TF section of the toy asile doubling...NAY...TRIPLING IN SIZE!!!

Mwhahahahaha....

In all seriousness, that's a good thing. Hopefully the new-releases won't be impossible to find (so I can get my hands on them) like they were in the first movie...took me a good month to find a lot of Concept Bumblebee at a Kohls.
blunghole:
Now all I need is a list of what all is coming out so I can figure out how much money to save :
Slimaximus:
Ok so walmart will be rolling the toys out during BotCon LOL Pasedena walmart is going to get flooded

Hey, man, don't harsh my news!

No "surprise", but it's nice to have a (theoretical) set date.

Plus, to my mind, the fact that W*M is going to dedicate a lot of space from the get-go this time around is news. With the first movie, they didn't have much faith in TFs, at least early on. Looks like they learned something.

I now feel very sorry for W*M employees in the Pasadena area.

By scalp-happy dealers, you mean. That is if Cincinnati is any indication.
Banzaitron45:
I hope a shit load of those toys don't clog up the aisles for years.

(Sorry Canadian inside joke, Zellers is a major retailer here, they are known very well for a few things a) toy section being a mess and having stuff you haven't seen elsewhere for 8 months, b) putting 'DO NOT PUT ON SHELF UNTIL...' cases on the shelf right when they get them, and c) having new stuff that doesn't scan, which when happens the cashier usually has a worker find something that is obviously cheaper to keep you happy and scan it at that price).

edit: Oh yeah, and $8 for a deluxe is cheap in Canada. Retail is $15 plus tax = $17.25.

May 29?? GOOD!! Arrival in my crappy Wal-Mart, who the heck knows!!

No, they wont clog up the isle. Based on the last line of movie figures well get a crap load before the movie comes out, the movie then comes out and the toy isle will be barren of transformers for weeks, maybe a month, then they will hit again, but it will just be wave 1. Then christmas will come and the isle will get destroyed and well have them clogging the isles after they restock for months and months.. loathing each and every toy that we so loved and looked forward to before they came out..
Eric:
Awesome. Though it's gonna suck having to wait four months...
megatronkicksas:
Geez I didn't know alt toys was still around

What a coincidence...
Bgrngod:
"Major Space" suggests massive numbers of figures being released. Which, in turn, suggests that we will all have no difficulty in tracking down every single figure we want without the scalpers screwing people over.

Yay!!
aey103:
I am most likely wrong but I think the release date will be May 30 instead, since the 29th is a Friday and the 30th is a Saturday. I am only thinking that because the last few times I can remember that Hasbro had set street dates for toys (Star Wars Episode 3, Star Wars Clone Wars, and the last Transformers Movie) the release dates were all on a Saturday. Also the statement says that Wal-Mart will do an update to the toy aisle to dedicate an area to bring the toyline in and does not specifically say that the toys will be placed on the shelves at that time. I remember the Friday before the Clone Wars line came out last Summer, the Target near me had nothing but empty pegs and shelves in Star Wars area in preperation to put the new Star Wars Toys out the next day.
G1Wheeljack:
2 weeks after my B-day, oh well. I'll just ask for $$$ & use it for my movie fix.
Rodimus Mike:
Holy Monkey Crap if this is true that there will be major space for the Movie figures that
means theres prolly be 20 or 25 different lines,FAB's,Main,Legends,Keychains,Roleplay
etc.,oh I am so gonna be broke by the time I leave the store May 29th. Yay Transformers.
ams:
Good stuff... I bet FP/HTS will make sure there are tons of them available at Botcon, a la the Pepsi Prime from 2007.

How cool would it be if you could buy them a buck or two under retail at Botcon? Doubtful, but cool.
xZAOx:
Cool. I don't know why anyone would buy them at BotCon though (unless you just live near there). It's not like they'll be hard to find, and why would you pay to ship them back home (or fight with putting them on an airline)?

There'd be a big appeal for international members due to the relative savings versus their retail prices at home.

And if the reaction to the new Prime toy is any indication, I'm thinking people will be looking forward to getting their hands on these ASAP.

That's actually a very good point. The last several toy releases i lined up for were indeed on saturdays. Makes sense that WM will make the changes to their shelves on May29, friday in time for a saturday launch.

Of course i am hoping that they'll release early at Botcon or something.

Another question. Would Hasbro be "allowed" them sell them at Botcon if they had their own dealer booth? (ala Pepsi Prime?) Or would the mass retailers like WM, TRU and Target frown upon that? I can see if Hasbro sells it at Botcon, the local retailers are going to get much fewer sales.
Soundwave84:
wow now they planned Botcon out perfect...
Kimmer:
guess this means we have about 5 months till universe and animated virtually come to a stand still. the only good thing about this is in 5 months my wallet will have some relief. hopefully all that crap will be off shelves sooner than later.
SmokescreenGT:
Good, glad to hear there will be a lot of space dedicated to ROTF toys. I guess I should start saving up my money now.

Oh, you. Evil you.

I would've preferred Botcon to be a week after the ROTF toys release date though.

If the Saturday date is what happens, and with Saturday usually being one of the most busy Botcon days, I fear we won't have much time to hunt for the toys outside of the convention.

Of course, it could also mean that by Sunday some of the dealers will be selling the toys at a mark up; but since I'm thinking of returning home on June 1st, I guess all that will matter to me is getting the toys either at retail or at the con.

Nah. A week later would've been better. Back in '07 I went to Botcon through Boston's Logan airport and drove from there to Providence. Weeks before I had highlighted Walmart, Target and TRU stores in the Boston-Providence route. That way I found most of the movie one toys at retail prices on my way to Providence. IIRC the only one I bought at a mark up in the convention was Robovision Optimus Prime.
