The Perth Mint in Australia has released official silver coins for Revenge of the Fallen depicting Optimus Prime and Megatron. The coins are 99.9% pure silver and have Optimus or Megatron on the reverse including a faction symbol. They are legal tender and limited mintage.

I just tripped over these on BBTS a little while ago: Transformers 1 Oz. Silver Proof Coin – Set of Megatron & Optimus – Transformers Transformers Movie 2007 Other at BigBadToyStore
$180 for a set of Megatron and Optimus Prime. And, the description says they are legal tender in the nation of Tuvalu, which is a string of islands halfway between Australia and Hawaii. Silver is right around $15 per ounce right now, so these are roughly $30 in raw Silver value. I wonder if any places in Tuvalu would actually accept them if you tried to buy dinner with them or something?
That price is insane. Truly for the most OCD of collectors that must own every single bit of ROTF merch made available. Or just for coin collectors that are interested in Transformers I guess. Either way… they don't transform so I have on interest.

these are perth mint silver proofs. the highest quality coins minted.

Don't fight it. Give in.

These are pretty cool, to much $$$ but cool.
Will they have any value on Cybertron???
benzo
still not enough to lift the ban on MP Megs though..
I used to collect coins as a kid and still kinda do so these are a must buy for me!

The Australian government sure takes their Transformers seriously…
TIE Bomber
Yeah, that really sucks! I just bought a box of limited edition Star Trek cereal. I'd much rather have Transformers cereal.
Luxor

Cool!

Incorrect.
I still don't have my TF cereal, dammit.

Actually let me correct myself. Technically you CAN lose. If the day you bring it in to sell back to the mint and the value is down from when you bought it, well tough luck…

Guys I can almost guarantee that it's not a sticker on a silver coin. I have a Chinese New Year edition a coin (from the Perth Mint) and it is painted deco.
So on that note I have pre-ordered both the Prime and Megatron. Plus they have a 30 day guarantee… and if I remember correctly they will always buy back their items once they confirm its authenticity. Can't lose.

twichy, stop trolling the thread. It's rude.
You know, a particularly old and respected hobby is coin collecting. I dare say it's far more respectable than collecting modern children's toys. Just saying.
twichy
so your saying you'd buy toilet paper that already has shit on it?
Lock Cade
Aw, man… ROTF coins minted in Australia, and they're going to be a limited thing?
Why is it that all the good TF stuff gets made and released outside the U.S.?
Infernok
Ooo-k…. If aanyone buys these they should look back and see what they did wrong in their life.

Our $100 is like US$78 or so, right? Still a lot of money to anyone, I know….
Naturally I won't be getting either of the coins, I'd rather buy a Leader Class toy if I spend that much money. Though I hope I'll get to see them in person in display at a local post office

It wont be a sticker…hard to explain bit it will be a high quality like screen print for metal.
