 | | | New TakaraTomy Revenge Of The Fallen Figures Including Buster Optimus Prime | | Posted on 07-04-2009 at 03:50 PM by Shin Densetsu | Hobby Search has listed the following Transformers items for release later this year(mostly Revenge of The Fallen figures).
October:- RA-21 Bumblebee & Sam Witwicky
- RA-22 Sideswipe & Sergeant Epps
- RA-23 Arcee
- RD-17 Long Haul
- RD-18 Grindor
- Encore18 Skids
- A-02 Nissan FAIRLADY Z Megatron/Diamond Black
November- RA-24 Buster Optimus Prime
- RA-25 Skids & Mikaela Banes
Buster Optimus Prime is described as having lights and sounds, and mech-alive gimmicks. It is also listed for 8,190 yen with a discounted price of 7,371 yen(which is the cost of the leader class figures). Could this be a retooled version of the leader class figure with blasters, as shown in the beginning of the movie and video game? Or could it in fact be, a set of all new voyager class, Optimus Prime and Jetfire figures which can combine?

I have a problem believing that it's a retool of Leader Prime with guns instead of swords because of one thing... Where would they go? The swords barely fit in the vehicle mode. I think it is just going to be a repaint of him. Or as some have said, a double pack with a new voyager Prime.
harrismonkey:
This proves nothing, but BBTS listed the previous really, really nice chromed leader prime for $85. Depending on currency fluctuations 8,100 yen is around that kind of price.
Maybe this will end up being the ROTF equivalent of chromed leader prime from the first one!!!!
I really, really hope so. ROTF leader prime is a mold worthy of the masterpiece line, but the paint job and plastic choices fall way short there. I've really been hoping Takara would come back and fix this.
jasonw:
Movie Skids - Encore Skids
Which means a likely: Movie Sideswipe - Encore Sideswipe
So does that mean at Christmas we can say:
Movie Devastator - Encore Devastator?
No-one has confirmed the constructicons are missing or damaged. So it could happen.
No way I'm paying stupid E-Bay money for one now.
Pepsiman98:
you know what? i think the new voyager prime is a remold with the ability to combine with a possible upcomming voyager Jetfire.
Fit For natalie:
About theories of it being new Voyager figures - the listing mentions sound and light Mech Alive. Hasbro dropped sound and lights from Voyagers after the Cybertron line.

No way I'm paying stupid E-Bay money for one now. | I could see that and would love a minty new one to have alongside my vintage Devastator. Glad the line's continuing at any rate. No interest in any of the rest.
KillerMel:
MV2 = MoVie skill level 2, at least for us in Wal*Mart Computers. TFM07 and ROTF Voyager Primes are Skill level 2.
this is turning out to be something interesting.... considering that voyager megatron and his jet mode are clearly superior than Leader Megs... this is totally relevant to my interests....

I certainly haven't seen any "MV1", "MV3", or "MV4" listings. And I doubt Walmart pays much attention to Hasbro's skill ratings.
Veloxiraptor:
Seems pretty clear it's just going to be a retread of Leader Prime in some way.
Ruination04:
Only ONE Encore? WHERE is Thrust? Ramjet? Where are the G1's I don't have?!
Knightdramon:
I'm thinking that Buster Convoy\Prime is going to be a slightly darker repaint of the already existing figure with parts to combine and form an accurate Jet Optimus hybrid.
Doesn't sound likely that it's going to be the voyager mould, unless it also features just parts for the combination, and said parts have the mech alive and sound gimmicks.
It's interesting to note that takara would have released all known HA figures bar Barricade by November, which should hasten up the release for the hasbro versions of those...
GAUGE0001:
I hope it's just Leader Prime with his 2 Guns.
Or Voyager Prime remold with his 2 Guns
either way dammit he better have 2 guns lol
Why else call him Buster Prime unless it's a Prime that comes with a Buster Witwickey figure.
I'm really hoping for a Prime figure with Jetfire add-on parts. like they did with BB and Prime the first time around back in 07'
dragon:
new prime figure ill stick with leader class versions of these guys that combine Quote: |
Voyager Prime remold with his 2 Guns
| this prime you talking about? Luxor:
yay for skids. ? for prime
Surge:
I really hope that "Buster Optimus Prime" is a brand new Voyager figure and combines with a Voyager Jetfire. Hopefully if they DO make a Voyager Jetfire, it will be a lot better than the Leader one; kind of like how the Voyager Megatron looks better than the Leader.
Kryptokron:
I really hope that this means a leader sized movie Grindor, which I will promptly repaint as Blackout. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

What matters are TakaraTomy's MSRPs.
These are 1,200 Yen (1260 Yen with tax) for Scouts, 2,300 Yen (2415 Yen with tax) for Deluxes, 3,800 Yen (3990 Yen with tax) for Voyagers and 6,800 Yen (7140 Yen with tax) for Leaders. Those prices are constant for the ROTF mass retail lineup. Takara didn't suddenly charge more for their chromed movie 1 Premium Prime either. So whatever Buster Optimus Prime is, it's slated for 7,800 Yen (8190 Yen with tax). A little chrome doesn't justify a 14% price hike. Quote:

Not "Convoy". The movie characters and their toys all retain their Western names in Japan (save for different gimmick names and faction prefixes for trademark reasons). Quote:

Bottom line is it WAS more expensive than the other leaders last time (and BBTS was carrying the regular Takara versions as well last time), and you've just confirmed that this IS more expensive than the other leaders this time.
I'd say that's good reason to be optimistic.
And although it would be nice if Hasbro would just do it right in the first place, I have no issue with paying a little more for what at least last time was a much nicer toy than the general release.

NOT the MSRP. The MSRP was the same for both regular Takara Leader Prime and Takara Premium Prime. If BBTS decided to charge more, that was BBTS's doing, not Takara's.
In Buster Prime's case, his MSRP his higher than regular Takara ROTF Leader Prime's MSRP.
Not the same thing.

Not the same thing. | I see where the confusion is coming in (at least partly).
The chromed Japanese Prime was actually not the Japanese Premium Prime. The chromed one was called Battle Mode Optimus Prime. There was also a Takara Premium Prime that was similar (or the same) as the US version. You're right that BBTS' price is not the end all be all, but I do remember it was more expensive than the Takara premium version at BBTS. I think we've all just gotten in the habit of calling Battle Mode Optimus Prime premium prime since most of us really weren't going to pay extra for an import of the same toy that was released here so nobody paid attention.
Do you happen to know the MSRP on the Battle Mode Optimus Prime? If that's also the same then you're very likely right.
Sorry if I'm being difficult. You have peaked my curiosity now on how much mark up BBTS did do. It was an expensive toy.
Kaymac:
Strange. I guess I'll wait for pictures to decide if "Buster Prime" is really all that awesome. He might be Leader Prime with some extra accesories, a re-deco of Prime, Voyager Prime with a more accurate combo with a Voyager Jetfire, etc. The only way we'll know is with pictures!
Runamuck:
Yay! They're continuing Encore! I've been hoping for another solicitation for Encore and was kind of afraid it was dead. I wonder how long it'll keep going, though...

MA-21 Optimus Prime Battle Mode WAS the Japanese version of Premium Prime. His MSRP was 6,500 Yen (6,825 Yen with tax), just like MA-01 Optimus Prime (regular Takara 2007 Movie Leader Prime).
There was NOT a second "Premium" Prime in Japan that was similar to the US version. The US got Premium Prime with silver paint, Takara got Battle Mode Prime with chrome.
Considering I've been maintain checklists for all toylines for the past few years, including Takara releases and even official Takara "imports", I sure did pay attention and would have noticed such a thing.

Fair enough. We'll assume I'm probably just an idiot for now.
But I'll be sure to point it out if Buster Prime ends up being along those lines.
Thanks for walking me through this. I do appreciate it.
Edit: We have first pictures now in another thread of an unfinished product. It's too early to say if it will indeed be chromed or not- but the toy certainly is moving toward being a slightly souped up premium type version of the original. I'm only more suspicious now that it will end up being exactly what I was hoping for and talking about. Apparently they do feel the price hike is appropriate.
Just have to wait and see exactly what we get...
JacobPGalvatron:
I hope Buster Prime is smaller Voyager remold with Jetfire parts.
I'd pay for that.

good to hear that they're continuing the encore line!

Personally i think it may be battle damaged "busted" up optimus, i mean he really got damaged in the movie....
Thats just my opinion. And i am most likely wrong...

this prime you talking about? | I have Robo-Vision Prime, but I've been hoping for a complete remold like they did with the leader version for ROTF.
with his trademark 2 cannons he used in the game and in the movie.
alien:
Fucking awesome! Blaster Prime...... Takara will make in chrome part on both blaster...?
Toxicon:
Apparently, Buster Prime has no faceplate (mouth showing) and has pieces on his back that form his gun.

Aww !!
Does that mean that Legends Devs wont be out till december or maybe even January!!??
I really wanna get legends devs soon!! Jarodimus: Quote:

"Remold" or "retool" is used to refer to figures on which some parts have changed from the original, not all of them. An example would be Movie 1 Deluxe Concept Camaro Bumblebee -- its remolds are Stealth/Premium BB, RotF Preview BB, and (most extensively) Cannon BB.

Glad the Encore series lives! But...I just saw ROTF Human Alliance Sam and Bee for sale today in Osaka, albeit at a super-specialty store and for about 7000 yen. It looks pretty good, but I'll wait for the the release date to catch up so the price comes down.
Magnus' Mate:
Encore Skids is real disappointing. I was hoping Encore would continue to be as daring and innovative as it seemed to be (Sky Lynx, Omega, Metroplex) and continue to give us stuff that hasn't been reissued before.
Previous Skids' reissues are common on ebay (for a decent price), so I don't know why anyone is getting excited over this.
My TFC Skids (with nicer packaging to boot) will do just fine for me.

My TFC Skids (with nicer packaging to boot) will do just fine for me. | It's better than the line ending altogether. And it's good if you prefer the retro style of the Encore packaging. No need to be disappointed. For every Omega Supreme life gives you, you also get a Hoist.
But I'm also happy with my TFC version. If I had the TRU version I'd swap it out for the Encore, to get the packaging and a spring in the missile launcher.
Who knows, maybe this version will have blue eyes like Trailbreaker and Hoist Encores do.
Optimus Vader:
If this "Buster Prime" isn't some sort of discounted Power Up Prime/Prime-Jetfire Combo, rather than paying $45 ea for Leader Prime and Jetfire = $90 for one toy (or if they don't make some sort of cheaper version of the kicka$$ Prime we all saw in the movie), then Mr. Hasbro should be kicked in the teeth. I'm a grown man and I don't want to pay $90-$100 on one toy for myself, let alone parents buying for their kids. And after kicking Mr. Hasbro's teeth out, he should be given an atomic wedgie for the lame ROTF Voyager Prime they pushed out. What kind of crap was that? Before I saw the movie, and saw the ugly toy, I'm like "Oh, I guess Prime gets a new paint job and did away with the flames." Nope.
Hey Hasbro, just make a Voyager Prime and Jetfire that combine, or sell ONE single Power Up Prime for at least under $50! Pricks.
Let's be honest, THAT'S what we want (ok, Power Up Prime is what I want anyway), not 18 different versions of Bumble Bee.
Chosen:
We didn't know when this thread was created and most of the discussion took place, but we do now know that Buster Optimus is just the Leader with a new gun. Search for the thread for details.
