ugly head mold if ya ask me lol

edit: i dont even like the colors...

I thought the head mold looked a little strange from the early pics. Not to fond of it at all.

Also the lighting that was used in the non-photoshopped pics is bad. It gives the toys a sickly yellow tinge.

I just may get one and repaint it to become Arcee.

Considering I have SS and still haven't gotten a good look at his head, i don't think i will mind the new head sculpt.
and i will just rename the silver one Swerve and the red one Sideswipe.

Swerve will be released by Hasbro and Takara.

Hasbro Swerve will be a mass market release.
Takara Swerve will be an Amazon Japan exclusive.

Both will have the new head.

The only "exclusive" is his Japanese market release via Amazon. That means he will not be available at regular Japanese stores.

That head is awesome! Looks exactly like a NEO Shifter (the only other toy line I collect besides Transformers).

This is one time I wish it were just a straight repaint instead of a remold.

I would pick him up if he were available in the US. The fact that it is from Japan means super high shipping if purchased on EBay.

takara should put some real money and thought into the next few figuers as im just plain sick of all of the repaints with diffrent names

Why so much hate for the head? Seriously, it's lines and styling are a thousand times nicer than Sideswipes's hideous head sculpt that looks like a robot cat head that was microwaved. ('Swipe isn't actually that bad, I just feel the need to balance the scales.)

Can't wait for this guy to start showing up in stores. I've been patiently passing over Sideswipe for the past three weeks because I'm short on cash and would rather have the red (any color, actual) over the grey/silver combo.

im not really digging at the head im just pointing out that takara instead of doing a new transformer called swerv they just put a new head on an older body

Thanks for the pics. I hope he's painted a deeper red instead of orange red plastic like Alt Side Swipe has. I already have 2 silver Sideswipes just so I can repaint the head for the red one. My extra silver one has a Jazz head on it

You can take what Nevermore says as pretty much fact, he's the resident no-it-all when it comes to figure release dates and patterns

Plus this figure was found with a stock picture on the US Walmart website about 2 months ago then removed.

Ummm. .. That's all hasbro and takara does, is reuse molds 2000000 times,
changing only the name and boxart. Hello, 9 different versions of Starscream!

No need to be flip about it. It's been the trend since the 80's. At least they are changing the names and heads a lot more lately. For most of the A/E/C trilogy they were only repainting figures and putting a GTS at the end of their name.

We've gotten some really sweet repaints and slight remolds lately with new heads ie Sideswipe/Sunstreaker, Starscream/Ramjet and really most of the Classics stuff follows the same model they did in the 80's

The movie stuff, whether you like the movie or not, has followed a pretty similar trend with new paint and head ie Blackout/Evac, Starscream/Thundercracker, Sideswipe/Swerve. On the other hand they are doing things like Desert Brawl and off-road Ironhide. I see repaints as cool if they are new characters with their own story, a new head is a bonus that I'd like to see more often. If they repaint Brawl and call him Desert Brawl I'll pick which color I like and leave it at that. Also repaints give people a chance to own a mold they either passed up, didn't have the money for or weren't collecting at the time. I thought the Cybertron Defense Team was pretty sweet when thay came out but I was only collecting Alts at the time. Now that I'm buying more mainstream lines I like the fact that hasbro brought back those molds as repaints and new characters

Bought at first sight, I don't see any difference from the American version but I am buying that mold period.

That head sculpt is kind of neat.

I wonder when we get the inevitable Sunstreaker out of this mold?

I love the new head mold, but I agree with a lot of you; it really seems suited to a different body for some reason. Still, very neat!

I'm personally not digging the red color. This particular car seems to me to suit the movie silver deco.

All said, I'm still gonna buy him I love that mold so much!

This is the first time I've seen a Hasbro toy that was *loved* when it was seen months ago have totally random, off-the-wall hatred heaped upon it during a TakaraTomy preview. Usually it's the other way around: Hasbro pics = Hatred. TakaraTomy pics: Love and praise.

Then you prefer repaints with the same names? You know, half of early G1 was practically like this - guys who were either simply repaints of some other guy or a retool of some other guy.

Actually, this is a Hasbro mass-release figure that is being released as an exclusive in Japan (probably because TakaraTomy couldn't fit it anywhere in their line).

It''s a retool, that means money was put into it to change the design, and changing the head is probably one of the most important changes you can make for a minor retool/repaint of a figure to create a new identity for it. Besides, what, you expect them to only make all-new tools for releases? I hope you enjoy toylines where you only get one or two toys every few months, then.

While this is something of an acknowledgment of Sideswipe's G1 colours, this is conceptually a homage for modern toys named swerve, such as Alternators Swerve and Universe Swerve, who were both red, black and gold sports cars.

And hey, now movie Swerve is a Corvette, just like Alternators Swerve.

ummm... I wasn't flipping about it, I was explaining to the meathead who only just now realized all hasbro/takara ever do is repaint existing toys.

I know G1 was filled with repaints.. I'm the one who pointed out the 9 different starscreams, etc. And it wasn't acceptible back then either to most parents who thought buying the same damn toy 9 times was ridiculous. I personally on have 1 version of any given model. My chevy blazer is available as a GMC Jimmy in different colors, but just because that is true, I don't need both just coz they have different names.
