When did Hasbro start worrying about saving people from having to buy figures more than once?

well this looks like a totally different toy.
it's just the same character.

and if you already have one of his toys from the first movie.
Then you don't really need to get this one.

That might just give me the excuse I need for a new purchase.

I honestly thought they did a better than okay job the first time around, but if they've topped it, I might just be amazed.

Hasbro doesn't have that much of a say in the movies because they don't contribute to the production budget.

Besides, Hasbro aren't the evil toy making money grubbers you might think they are. Roberto Orci said on this very forum that some at Hasbro argued against changing returning characters' designs so parents wouldn't have to buy their kids (essentially) the same toy again just because something has been changed.

Like they've always said, they never expect people to buy everything, especially children/their parents. Repaints from other lines in Universe, for example, are generally to be sold to people who never owned those molds before. Your choice if you decide to spend money on the repaint.

Well, If this Prime, Soundwave, and the the two deluxes are any indication, our wallets may be hurting this year.

There's the retooled Bumblebee, the Cybertronian Mode "Preview" Soundwave and a Wreckage repaint that looks like its in the originally intended real-life striker color scheme.

We've only seen one picture of Wreckage's vehicle mode so dunno if its legit or not.

I'm kind of hoping that Wreckage repaint will be an Autobot. They could use a few more military vehicles.

Sounds intereting. From my best guess, it's bassically a more advanced version of how leader-class Prime's chest opened up, and head popped out.
Could be neat, or could be realy cheesy. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm very curious to how much more accurate this toy is to the CG model than the previous figure was. Some kibble is inevitible, but I'm really hoping that he's a lot more stream lined kind of like the voyager version of movie 1 prime was.

Has anyone noticed that this looks like a totally new mold of Prime,like his window
visors are slightly slanted,and he has a more rounded stomach,and of course no
chest windows.Also check out the pipes near Primes head. I think this may be a
new mold for him,correct me if I'm wrong tho.

The pictures and the little leaks are all part of a marketing strategy. Hasbro is well aware of fans like us and lets out an image or two to get us reved up for the next figure line. June 2nd of 2007 was when the first line of movie figures hit stores and it was a mad house. I can also tell that all the people buying them were collectors or scalpers.

If you think about it it is smart for Hasbro to do this because commercials (for toys like this) are a dying breed. Plus what little kids have $40 to spend on a Transformer or a parent willing to spend that on their kids. Us fans will buy these hell we may buy more than one of the same character. These images are leaked on purpose, and it works. You know how I know...

If this new Prime figure looks as good as it does in that picture...I want one!

This little picture is amazing, It looks like its more acurate, I hope the little gas cylinders will be Xed on his back, that would be kick ass lol. I hope to see Megatron and the other soon, along with the full pic of this guy!

Oh God, if anyone was the most deserving of a new figure after Prime, it was definitely Starscream! No kibble, bigger sizeclass, sleeker, more accurate/proportionate to the F-22, oh man...need new Starscream!

Supposedly there are pics of the back of the packaging in full(showing all the bot mode & alt mode) on tf08.net but only in the VIP Section. Either way it sucks that we're going to have to wait to see them.
