Got him today, and he rules!
He's definitely a Cybertronian mode figure, and I have no reservations to claim this is a preview figure, like we saw with Starscream and Optimus last time around. His alt mode is s Cybertronian satellite:
That is what I think is the "official" mode, just based on where things go and where the missile launcher sits. but the panels are so poseable it's opne to interpretation. Here's a slightly different on showing off the launcher port (mine didn't come with a missile, but I have one on the way.)
And of course, there's the vaguely Vector Prime "ship" mode:
As for the missile, it's a black, kind of goop looking projectile. Based on what we're heard rumor wise, I suspect this might be Ravage. Some kind of sentient/nanite goop that can be fired and absorb things or convert into Ravage, but that's all pure speculation on my part.
Transformation is involved, pulling the legs apart and down, flipping out the arms and folding away all of the panels., but you're left with a pretty cool robot:
I'm pretty sure this is the proper robot mode. Everything tabs into place and looks good, although, like before, you can arrange the kibble in many positions to suit your own taste. His feet are AMAZING. All three "toes" can move independently, and his ankle is on a rotational joint that give a great range of side to side motion, so he's quite stable:
His sonic panels can be deployed in robot mode if you like:
He's a little shorter than past movie deluxes, but a lot of that is due to his bulk. Here he is with Bumblebee and Barricade:
And a shot of the face:
Sound Explosion!
Seperated at birth?
Overall, he's an AWESOME figure, and really getting me amped for the sequel. Video review is available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z65qbeZccmM

Omega Charge:
Wha... you got him!
You are awesome!
jdre_124:
Oh God, oh God HAWT!
bfarneth:
Just confirms the ugliness - nonetheless, congrats on getting him so early.
Lazerwave:
Where did you get it? Don't spare the details.
GrimlockAutobot:
Wow a movie Decepticon that appears to have normal looking hands/fists instead of freakishly long fingers/claws.
Overlord54:
Pretty cool there Peaugh. Nice review and I have to say its easily one of the nicest looking movie bots thus far. Our first movie triple changer too.
TFfan08:
Awesome, shame that this Soundwave is just a deluxe class figure, I thought it was a voyager. Maybe Earth Mode is a Voyager class.
Bumblejazz:
Looks freakin' awesome.
big hank:
Thank you sir for the preview! I will hunt this toy down mercilessly and hoard the all!!! Well, I'll for sure pick up one! wheeljaxx:
i'll get this one, and earth mode soundwave. that is all... and wheeljack, if thats who it is.
ActionMasterZod:
Talk about out of nowhere!
I wasn't expecting him to be on the prerelease market so early.
Kando:
This figure is looking better to me now. I like the size of it, too.
Might have to pick it up when it hits retail.
Great review!
Deadsled:
awesome Peaugh!! Can't wait for this one. He's going to look sweet next to all my other Soundwaves!!
bradinmo:
I loved the first movie and can't wait for the second. I thought the designs worked really well in motion. I even bought all of the movie versions of Optimus Prime. But I have to admit, I'm not a fan of the movie toys. I just find the clean look of the Animated line so much more appealing.
I can't wait to see Soundwave on the bigscreen, but the toy is an ugly mess.
DieMaus:
OK, I'm sold on this dude. Satellite mode I can take or leave; I've not seen a configuration of it yet that makes visual sense to me, and the barren grey plastic just makes it look kind of formless. The bot mode is a different story, however; folding everything away properly like this allows the blue parts to really take control of the look, which, when accented by the red and gold, make for a unmistakeably Soundwave look. I really like the headsculpt, too; it's about as G1-ish as they could have gone without totally breaking from the established aesthetic of the first movie.
Since this is most likely a preview figure, I can't imagine myself ultimately buying this particular toy - I generally try to only get the most fiction-accurate toy available per character - but the quality of this one bodes well for the bigger and better Movie Soundwaves yet to come. And even if this is the only one, well, at that size, he looks like he'd make a nice companion for Animated Soundwave...
PS - Speaking of which: Peaugh, are you doing picture requests for this guy? If so, could you do one of him with Animated Soundwave, for comparison? Or maybe one of him the Laserbeak guitar, just for fun? If not, then never mind, and cheers for the great review. MushroomPrime:
Thanks for the review Peaugh, but it just seems so meh; I might pass on it, but then again, Soundwave... *salivates*
Banshee:
pretty cool toy. I like the poseablity and the bot mode, but the arms a re kinda long though.
Thanks for the review!
Oh, and the pre-release review drama is awesome too.
GrimlockAutobot:
Hey Peaugh or xSEANxLONGx.......could one or both of you please do a group Soundwave shot? Maybe post the Movie Soundwave with Animated, G1, or any other soundwave you may have available? THANKS!!
drill:
To either reviewer, can we get a shot of the Protoform Previews from last year and Voyager Megatron?
Faxon:
Eh, as a figure I probaly am not going to uy it when he is released, but as a concept for the design ethos with the movie toys, he seems ok.

Congrats on finding him!!! Nice review too!!! Now I want him more!!! Ktulu: off-topic -TFW2005 Staff
Anyway, this is a figure I don't think I'll buy, but it does get me excited about what's to come for sure. Thanks to both Peaugh and Sean for giving us these extended looks at him Eric:
So want it. RIGHT NOW. >_<
But we don't know when he'll come out...

It looks awesome! How much do you think his truck mode will resemble his satellite mode as far as the robot is concerned?
RodimusZero:
I think it's pretty clear that this toy is supposed to pay homage to the cybertron mode of soundwave in the very first episode of the original show. If you all recall, in that episode, his arms just kind of stuck out to the side and he formed sort of a y-shaped street light, so this is i'm guessing the same way. Especially since he has a face shape on both the front and back for symmetry.
bellpeppers:
Interesting.
I'll probably pass on ot tho... but interesting regardless.
Octavius Prime:
Thanks for the great review. Do his chest panels open to reveal the other two "speakers"?
