TFW2005 member Red leader shares with us a complete image gallery and his observations on the new Dark of the Moon Voyager Optimus Prime figure:
Had a chance to look at and play with this guy a few weeks ago and he is pretty awesome, maybe not as an improvement over whats been seen before but certainly as an action figure.Good articulation and easy transformation will make this far more suitable for kids than the previous incarntaions of prime, no fiddly panels or automorph to get stuck or cause problems
In bot mode he has the huge gas tanks and ma-hoosive! gun which has a mechtech gimmick allowing it to morph as you can see from the photos, it also appears to double as Primes engine in truck mode, what that means for the movie along with the obvious solar panels is anyones guess but its got to be good.
I would recommed picking him up, sure he doesnt look as movie accurate as the ROTF Leader or even Battle Blade but he is a hell of a lot of fun.

Well I boxed up my leader Optimus and I'm having some fun with this guy:
amd098
just bought this figure… and wow what a total piece of crap
loose joints, and warped plastic on his back [where the gas cans/truck door attack to the body], so his alt mode wont line up at all correctly
arm articulation is hindered by the wheels that face into his chest, while his legs are really longer in person
ill be returning this guy tomorrow, only good thing about him is his gun, which isnt worth paying $15 for.
Strife
I just got the "fireburst" version of this figure.
I was very reluctant to pick of this mold of any type to begin with. I had bought Battle Blades Optimus Prime and I'm pretty convinced he's one of the best figures in the past 5 years. His transformation was so close to the leader (in some ways superior), and the look just perfect. It really is the gold standard voyager-scale movie figure in my view.
The DotM Voyager mold turned me off a lot. It had far less coloring, darker paint applications, weird scale and didn't look much like Optimus Prime. So I skipped it. But then Fireburst Prime came along and I really liked the weapon, so I figured what the heck and dived in.
I'm glad I did, it is a pleasant surprise.
The weapon is great, but fragile. It is one of the best looking of the DoTM line, but had to repair its alignment with a screwdriver.
The look of Fireburst Prime is what sold the figure for me. I decided to just hold it to a different standard. If Battle Blades Prime was "accurate" this is "fun". It's transformation is far less complex, but interesting and the different coloring really makes for an interesting, semi-Laser Prime like look.
I still feel that Battle Blades Prime is the strongest figure at this scale, and that the DotM Voyager Prime mold is short changed by a severe lack of paint. But if you didn't get the normal Voyager Prime because you had the better looking BB Prime, I'd take a look at the Fireburst repaint. You won't be disappointed. Just be careful with the axe.
Shmoptimus Prime
Man I never thought Optimus Prime could be a shelf warmer, but this mold is clogging up my toys r us! I acknowledge that people seem to like him but I don't need another voyager prime and this one just looks so… toy-like. I tried out the mechtech gun in the store though and it IS really awesome.
Shin Densetsu
This figure has grown on me a lot. Let's face it, for accuracy, this. Isn't the best. What it is, is fun. I like the exaggerated leg proportions and stance. Wish the knees were double jointed. More ankle movement would be cool too. What it has over the battle blades prime is more range of motion in certain areas, for example, the edges of the hips never hit the torso when moving the legs, arms can straighten with nothing in the way.
Overall fun figure, would be better with swords and bigger chest, but other than that, a lot of fun.
ectoneon
Well I have to say I was one of the haters of this guy at first. So inaccurate. But as time went on and more and more pics showed up, I slowly warmed up to him. I finally decided to just buy him and see how it is. I like him way more than I ever expected to. For accuracy, nothing will ever dethrone ROTF leader and HFTD battle blades Prime. But this one is just a fun toy to play around with. He just looks so dynamic, and posability is great. Plus-movie prime with ankle tilts and a waist swivel. His mechtech gun is one of the best. Another thing that surprised me- his altmode is Way more solid than it actually looks.

Thanks

Shown with the back panels up and down, and how it looks in alt mode.
Liege Prime
Yeah, but I wasn't talking about how aesthetically pleasing he his. Sorry you don't like the way he looks, but he's still very posable, more so then any other voyager I can think of. Even if his knees are a little high (and yes based on the CG model they are only a LITTLE high) he can still strike all sorts of fun poses. I too am bothered by his tiny torso but not enough to devalue the toy.
closetrat
That's why I would only buy the Takara version.
Rewind
I can do that later tonight if nobody beats me to it. I actually prefer it in bot mode without the tanks. In alt mode it doesn't really look good with them (too big and silly looking) or without them (ugly gaps on the sides).
Guiformers
i have personal as someone who has the optimus take a picture of it without the gas tanks in the back

the cannons are PE shadow warriors, and the swords are PE Sun and Moon

He's saying articulation & limb proportions work hand in hand. If either is off or lacking, the result poses might disappoint.
Personally, I absolutely hate short thighlegs + ultra long shinlegs. They could have made the shinleg 'visually' long while having the actual knee joint at a proper humanoid height.
Ok, let's say I'm OK with visually extended legs and smaller torso to evoke the hero stature : then the HEAD needs to scale down with the torso in the same proportion.
Voyager Megatron gets this right ; he's grown as a result of the robotmode being result of cab + trailer – and his headsculpt is proportionate to his growth.
DOTM Prime's head however hasn't scaled with the torso ; the result is NOT a heroic proportion, but it makes him look like a 12 year old humanoid with moonboots. His head is simply too big for the intended heroic design to work.
LightningZERO
Wow, what are those sword/cannon things on its sides?
Liege Prime
Well, for the articulation, he has everything the older primes do plus he has double ball jointed elbows and a ball jointed wrist. His feet aren't on balljoints like RTS Prime but they do swivel and allow you to have him stand with his feet flat in all sorts of positions. Plus he has waist articulation. It just adds up to overall more articulation. 2007 voyager Prime didn't have posable feet, or an articulated waist. I'm certainly not saying I like him better then the other two movie Voyager Primes, he just strikes me as the most playable and posable.
Sportimus
I fail to see this. After a few days of messing with him, I don't see him having any more articulation than either ROTF or the 2007 Movie Voyager Prime's. He's actually kind of clunky compared to the other two with his wheels on his arms getting in the way sometimes, or ruining what could have been a good pose. His knees are way to high, and the whole figure just feels kind of "off". As far as posability goes, 2007 Voyager Prime has him beat. The only thing DOTM Prime has is waist articulation, and I have to give him props for that. Maybe you are better at posin' TF's than I am, but I just don't find him to be better.
I have to agree with you on all that. He does have that heroic appearance to him and that I find pretty cool! I really like his Mechtech gun, and the paint apps are reall good on this Prime.
Yeah, despite his flaws, I really like this Prime too. He's so funky, you almost have to like him.

That pic just shows how OUT of scale they are.
DOTM OP has grown substantially compared to his earlier self, so…no way Ironhide is as tall as Prime as that pic shows.
BB is waaaaaay too tall in that pic too. Heck, he's taller than Ratchet…which is absurd.
Ironhide and Ratchet should be as tall as BB in that pic, while BB should be the same or smaller than Ratchet in that pic.

I thought Optimus was pretty much double Bumblebee's height?
(and deluxe Ratchet just seems way too small to me)
