Well, all I can say is that I'm glad Legends Prime is actually looking like Prime this time. The first movie's Legends Prime had to be my least favorite legends mold and resembled Prime in his robot mode like 0%. AND these pics apparently have him mistransformed.

While I don't know anything about the movie for sure, it could just be that he attaches to the underbelly of Jetfire to be transported by air.

It doesn't look as though Jetfire does much transforming to get into this form, he just seems to plug straight into Prime's back. But these are only legends, I have this sneaking suspicion that the full size toys may pull it off a bit better,

... though I gotta say, while I knew the combined mode would be a bit iffy, I thought they would've gone for something a bit more involved than just Optimus with a plane stuck on his back.
However, it's worth noting that whoever took this photo neglected to transform Optimus's feet. So it would seem likely that they didn't spend all that long trying to figure it out. Hopefully there's a little more to this combination than we see here.

i actually dont think he does. from rumors being that megs and his peeps team up with ops team to defeat the fallen, maybe thats how the 2 need to work together and still be on separate factions.

It might make me wierd, but I dig the idea behind this. I think the notion of Jetfire splitting up and transforming into complex armor for Prime, anime-style, would have been *way* too much of a stretch for a live-action movie. A nice, simple combination like this is much more straightforward and effective. I'd say its pretty clear that the climax of the film is going to require Prime to get a bit of height in order to shoot the Fallen in his weak spot for maximum damage, leading to this little link-up.

i like the idea of a backpack for Prime-it makes alot more sense than him combining with a HUGE jet in a more advanced way. though maybe its attatched upside down? spin the plane 180 degrees so the nose is pointing down, then maybe flip the wings around. i think that makes more sense (even if you dont rotate the wings) though its hard to tell from these shots

Judging from the early images of Optimus' hole placement, I assumed this duder would become a backpack of some sort. Not sure if that's the case for sure, but it certainly looks like it. Nice.

I don't seem to remember as much comlaining over scale when it was revealed that Cyb. Optimus and Wing Saber could combine (or, for that matter, Energon Optimus and E. Wing Saber). Both of those examples also have grossly underscaled aircraft combining with an overscaled truck cab.
Overall, I think it's great. I don't think that many people expect a true combiner from the legends class anyway, and to see that they somehow effectively included Optimus & Jetfire's combination at this scale, even in a simple form, impresses me.
I wonder if you could stow Prime's arms and unfurl Jetfire's legs to act as arms, though.
