Winner of Doritos' 2013 Super Bowl Commercial Contest to work on Transformers 4

A bit of an oddball story for you this morning, as Micheal Bay has teamed up with Doritos for the grand prize of Doritos' Super Bowl Commercial contest for 2013: The chance to help Micheal Bay with the production of Transformers 4. As USA Today states: "The consumer who creates the top-ranked Doritos commercial aired during the Super Bowl -- as determined by USA TODAY'S Ad Meter consumer poll of best-liked Super Bowl commercials -- wins the chance to work with Bay on the next installment of the Transformers movie franchise, to be filmed in 2013." USA Today also states that if the winning commercial also tops the USA Today Ad Meter (which is their method to determine the most popular advertisement which premieres during the Super Bowl) the winner will also receive a $1 Million prize.

For all the details of the contest, please check out the article itself over at USA Today's website.

No thanks,Easy pass.

Bah, so he can rape my childhood upon my very eyes? Never. My talents as a film maker are destined for greater things.
Aernaroth
I would, but explosives are so expensive...

If Rollitos were still around, you could just have a regular Doritos transform into a Rollitos, add cleavage and explosions and call it a day.
TFW10
Well, if anyone would win the contest it would be very impressive on the resume.

So, is any TFW2005 member going to try to "tackle" (no pun attended) this challenge?

If you claim to be an aspiring film maker and pass on this opportuniy because of Bay your film career will be very short. Many who have worked in film and television for 20 years would kill for an opportunity like this. Good luck to anyone who enters.

Somehow, I feel most of the entry will involve bags of chips exploding

The problem with things like this is you spend a bunch of time, energy and possibly money- but there's only one winner. You could come in 3rd place (which would be impressive in it's self) and gain no benefit at all. All you end up with is a Doritos spot you can't use anywhere else.

I've recut spec music videos I've done for contests before, actually placed and gotten honorable mentions in some cases and still had to pull my contest version from YouTube so no one could see it (fortunately the original is mine and still viewable).

It's like the most time consuming, expensive lottery ticket you could buy.

Good luck to anyone on this site who tries, if you win do let us know!

I'm gonna try. Wish me luck!

Pass. And it doesn't say what kind of job.

For all we know the job is being the coffee-b*tch....

I never knew films gave credit to the guy who gets Bay his coffee.

Still would be cool if someone from the site won though.
MPrime10
If I had a good camera, I might just try something like this.

Even though it might be kinda hard for me to work on a movie with school going on and what not.

Danggit. Age restriction anyway.

Good a chance to infiltrate his ranks and then eliminate the greatest threat to childhoods everywhere.

yes but to pass because it's Bay as they say "Beggars can't be choosers" you will get 5,000 before that one yes, consider this one of the no's if it doesn't work out but if you don't even try and this is what you want to do?

Even being a coffee bitch watching a professional director like Bay work I'd bet I would learn a lot

That would be my problem too, but hey, I'd be $1 million richer and be with Bay during TF4 filming. School can wait

I think most people I know would understand if I had to skip school to work on the movie. This franchise is a huge money maker.

I agree. Lots of great directors started out with crappy beginnings. James Cameron began his career as a special effects guy. His first movie was Pirahna II: The Spawning and it was pretty bad. After that, pretty much every movie he's made was an instant classic and a huge commercial success. Plus, Bay is a filmmaker who knows how to use his resources. He uses lots of practical effects and uses CGI when it is necessary.

It's nice to see Bay return to his roots and give someone like him a shot at a film career. I think I'll try it, but I'm a better writer than a director.

So how does one enter the contest? Cause I think I got a good one
Avengers
Does it mention if it's a paying job or a free job.

my speculation is the winner gets to work with micheal bay on the TF dorritos superbowl 2013 commericial. the way the contest is worded it doesn't seem like the winner of the contest will get to work with or for micheal bay on the actual filming of the TF4 movie.

except for the first sentence of the article, unless I'm mistaken.

You get to work with Bay on TF4. And who cares if it pays or not. You'd win a million dollars!
Grimlockimus
Optimus and Megatron are brawling out in the middle of the city, a Doritos truck drives down the street and is heading between them, it crashes and Optimus and Megatron look at the pile of Doritos bags and then back to themselves.

Cut to Optimus and Megs sitting against some buildings muching out on some Doritos

Optimus with Cool Ranch, and Megatron with Spicy Nacho.
Then have Starscream fly off from the top of a building saying how he'll be ruler of the Doritos someday.

Just throwing random ideas out XD

I've always been kind of worried that someone will actually do this. Not because I really like the bayverse, but because I doubt many directors would want to work on a franchise that has fans that kill directors...
Avengers
I wonder what the rules are regarding how amateur or professional you can make this commericial. I'm sure some have more money than others. some have more connections in the industry than others. some have access to CGI studios & high tech software.

I think to make this thing fair to all. their should be a cap on the spending budget. the amount of connections, resources, software & talent that can get used for this commericial contest.

I can easily see some spending over $50,000 & over $100,000 just to win this contest.

some might even ask industry actors & actresses to perform in this commericial. most likely these actors & actresses will be the ones who can't get work in the industry anymore, the annoying, crazy & jobless ones like Roseanne barr.

some might use their exspensive cameras, computer & tech equipment from their college. to try to win this commericial.

Their is no way a average joe or kid can compete fairly againt the big time guys.

I wonder if the high budget, multi talented, high tech videos get tossed in the Thrash by these contest owners. because buying a contest or using stuff the average joe or kid can't use might be deemed as cheating.

Given how radically different my views on film are and Micheal Bay's views on film are I just can't see the two of us working happily together. I also have this very odd feeling that Bay only surrounds himself with yes people and I'm just not much of yes man.

I do wish the people entering the very best of luck because I'm sure there will be plenty of great entries. If one of you do win could you please suggest that Decepticons need to kick ass instead of just having their asses constantly kicked?
Igniting_Prime
make a commercial with starscreams body being an actual dorito, win

I've directed features that have been released on DVD, I'm not a big fan of Bay's work (for the most part), I've even pitched screenplays to his production company (platinum dunes)...

and I'd HAPPILY be his coffee bitch. It's absolutely an opportunity.

I just don't think taking the time and money to do a spot properly when I may not even be able to display the end result publicly unless I win is a good use of my time and money. There's only one winner and thousands of entries. Being one of the best isn't good enough- you have to be THE best.

That being said, if I happened to come up with a good idea I could do cheap and in less than I week, it might be fun.
TNG Prime
Whoa, really? I mean, my chance of being able to make this is next to nothing with my lack of experience, but heck, I might be able to seize an opportunity.

Now that would be great. Working with Bay on TF4. If only I had a camera, Adobe After Effects, and knew how to use Blender (so I could edit in some 3D stuff.)

I could make a commercial portraying a war between some factions...over the last bag of Doritos on earth.
MV95
To anyone attempting this, you can't reference anything about Hasbro products and you can't use fireworks. So, I guess I have to work on a new idea for mine....
TNG Prime
Hasbro products...guess TF is out. But as for the factions with big guns thing, epic. I think I would need a greenscreen, come to think of it.
megatroptimus
They should call the flavor "BBQ EXPLOSION".

You can't use fireworks? Okay what about powdered non-dairy creamer since you can make a heck of a fire ball with the stuff?
