Warner Brothers Mucks Up Harry Potter IMAX Dates, Paramount FTW transformers-vs-potter
Seems like Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is causing a stir amongst Harry Potter fans.

The IMAX version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is being delayed 2 weeks from it's regular 35mm opening due to a scheduling conflict. Paramount locked in the date for Transformers 2 a while ago, and signed a deal with IMAX to have it shown exclusively for 4 weeks on their screens if Michael Bay and company shot scenes with the IMAX technology. They did, and all was well. That is, until Warner Brothers pushed back the date for Harry Potter from a 2008 release date to Summer 2009, opening July 15th. That conflicts with the exclusive window for IMAX that Paramount had set in stone for ages (4 weeks from opening), and therefore Harry Potter will not begin IMAX showings until July 29th now.

Potterbots are up in arms ranting on ROTF and Paramount. From our perspective sounds more like a Warner Brothers issue. Maybe they shouldn't release their flicks when conflicts like this are present. Or rather yet - just don't try and compete with Transformers. I think Paramount was in the right, and Im glad they didn't budge.

Either way, get ready for your ROTF on IMAX, they start at 12:01 AM Tuesday night/Wednesday morning opening week (June 24th).

Seriously, I have no problem with Potter per se, but I'm sick to the teeth of adults reading the books and declaring how awesome they are. They're not, by the way. They're facile, and very poorly written. But that's ok, because they're meant to be kid's books. I have many friends who are Potter fans, and time and again they have tried to get me to watch the movies. No thanks. I saw the first, and wasn't impressed.

Now of course, people might say that Transformers is for kids, and they'd be right. But I started to like Transformers as a kid. I didn't get into them as a 32 year old.

Anyway, that's off the point somewhat. If you plan your movies poorly, this is what happens. I'm sure Potter will make a lot of money regardless, but this won't do it's revenue much good at all.
That's how I feel about Twilight's fan base. 99.99% of them are fat, ugly and single girls or 30-40 yr old women.

If you don't like a franchise - fine - but to turn into a bunch of whiney, supposedly-superior fanboys/girls over it and to just be purely insulting and hateful at other peoples' misfortune? Sorry, that's just sad and I pity you.
you are taking this whole thing far too seriously

Oh dear god I know, its fucking terrible, twilight definitely has the worst fanbase

Take that Harry Potter
Scythe:
See, I usually respect all fanbases. I try to steer far away from the whole Twilight scene, and so far so good, but the other day, my buds and I were at a Starbucks waiting on some sofas for are drinks to be ready, when these five little wizards all cosplaying as their favorite Harry Potter characters walked up to us and noticed we were wearing TF shirts and said:

"Because of your effing movie, ours got pushed back, why don't you all just go die"

I said:

"If you don't like it, cast a spell....?"

They didn't find it funny, even though a pack of ham at a grocery store and I probably thought it was funny. Yes, I can be random at times, but my point is, that was some harsh stuff to say, so to the HP fans who are hating this, all I say is: Haw-Haw, nothing too bad, nothing worse than what was said to us. Geez.

Why geniune Potter-bashing would be unpleasant, I do hope any potter fans will be taking all this in the tongue-in-cheek "we're all supposed to hate each other" humor it's supposed to be based in.

I must say something here is satisfying in that Harry Potter, as a nerdage franchise, is generally considered rather acceptible, as the books became cool among adults. Hence, the normal folk see little wrong with even rather old potter fans but pour scorn on us toy nerds. Ignoring (well, not knowing of) the several pieces of TF fiction that are more adult than Harry Potter, the engineering of the toys, and that enjoying kids cartoons on multiple levels is in no way worse than enjoying kids books (on multiple levels...? I dunno if they have them, I have never read one, not out of spite, just never interested me).

I don't know about that one. I had to stand in line for an hour for the DVD because my daughter just HAD to get it at midnight and they're were quite a few hotties there in their twenties waiting as well. One was right in front of me in line and she went on and on about Twilight as much as my teenager does.

What a rediculous statement. Have you ever seen Transformers fans? Maybe comic nerds? How about Star Trek/Star Wars geeks? Obviously this is not a blanket statement, but I think you may be the pot calling the kettle black. And you haven't even seen 1% of the Twilight fanbase much less the 99.99% you claim to be 'fat, ugly and single girls or 30-40 yr old women'. Uninformed opinions FTL.
eriku:
Meh. No contest. Optimus may be big and strong but Harry would simply cast an Obliviate! spell at him and make Optimus think he's a GoBot.

Paramount FTMFW!
guard convoy:
someone needs to sign up and post opinons on that mugglenet place not making fun of them but just state a few facts that this might be a good thing, cause seriously, every movie that is going to go against Revenge of the fallen is going to get blown out of the water.

seems like someone did and gave a link to this thread lol
butz:
The psuedo-rivalry going on here is kinda dumb. This isn't really about Transformers pwning HP or anything, or any kind of battle over which is going to be better; it's about which studio fucked up (evidently WB).

twilight has a fanbase? man people will just follow any crap these days.
Rodimus Primal:
HA! TAKE THAT POTTER FANS! TFs deserve the spotlight this summer.
Dropshot:
I love this news, I've been hating HP since forever although I liked the third movie, but with the box office numbers the potter movies make, with the projected ROTF gross, it will be an epic box office battle.
Torque:
would just like to say 2 things:

1) this isnt some kind of rivalry-or at least, it shouldnt be. Warner Brothers decided to push back their movie to try and make more money (which may backfire, as now they need to follow ROTF) and didnt check to see how things would work in IMAX. poor planning is all, saying "Potter fans are getting pwned" or that its "stupid TF2's fault" is just stupid. Paramount planned ahead, WB didnt. simple as that.

2) i am a fan of the books-was psyched for the movies (even went to some dressed as Dumbledore cause i had a father time costume-remove the clocks-BAM instant Albus) but they're kinda getting old. but i would just like to correct a few people, as i read some posts that seem to be misinformed-when JK Rowling wrote these books, she had written them for Adults, not Children. it wasnt supposed to be a kids series that got caught on by adults, but quite the opposite-a series written for adults that kids liked because the main characters were kids as well. some people here seem to think the opposite.

oh, and 3) Twilight sux eggs!

I agree with What Torque said on points 1 and 3; a very good read sir.

Mwahahah! Mwahahaha! Paramount will reign supreme with its foresight and planning and Warner Brothers will perish under the metal heel of Transformers. This is what you get for delaying a release, my friends.

Unsure of their manhood?? Are you serious? Ask the Potter fans their opinion when I run by them in line and smack them upside the head with 12 inches of limp Primus!

We aren't bashing EVERY movie, just the ones that are impossible to resist.
Bgrngod:
Too bad the nearest IMAX to me is a LIEMAX fake screen. Not even a dome. Hell, not even that big apparently. Stupid IMAX and their 5 different types of screens. Grr....

Hopefully they still include the extra scenes. I'm paying quite a premium on the tickets to see them.

You're bashing movies that your friends and other members of this board have told you is cool to bash. You're certainly allowed to not like a movie or a particular book. But it's ironic when there is post after post about how immature members of another fandom's board are acting yet there is page after page of the same immaturity posted here.

I still fail to understand why this is being taken so seriously

I hope I hope I hope potter does better then rotf. Planning on a mid night potter showing myself. No plans to pay to watch rotf myself. My money is going to potter.
Scythe:
I saw someone write Harry Potter and Transformers Love Story fanfic once, why can't we all be just like that? Incredibly lame.

Nevermind.

i think most people (in my opinion)who are potter fans are into twilight-you can hope all u want that transformers does bad BUT we all know transformers is going to be a smash -im sorry to see potter go the way of the dinosaure -thats how things go down. harry potter
Bgrngod:
I really hope most of the posts in this thread are just joking around and not serious.

I am excited about both movies quite a bit. Mostly for ROTF, but I know for sure I'll be seeing Potter as soon as I can. I never read the books, so seeing the movies has been a good excuse to continue to avoid reading them. And, I've liked them quite a bit despite the horrible acting of some of the cast.
omegamaine:
u know they both will do good -im just yanking the chain -people take things so to heart-lighten up lol now and agan

HP6 sucked (No offense to other HP fans) I just saw it and it was by far the worst HP Film so much has changed. Hopefully this doesnt happen with TF3

Um, I don't know what happened but HP6 still bumped ROTF at my IMAX in Lincoln Square.

For the next 2 weeks you can watch HP6 on only 2 IMAX screens. One in NY and one in LA. The rest you will have to wait till the TF exclusive deal is over.
