 | | | | | | | Warner Brothers Mucks Up Harry Potter IMAX Dates, Paramount FTW | | Posted on 06-08-2009 at 05:43 PM by Tony_Bacala | Seems like Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is causing a stir amongst Harry Potter fans.
The IMAX version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is being delayed 2 weeks from it's regular 35mm opening due to a scheduling conflict. Paramount locked in the date for Transformers 2 a while ago, and signed a deal with IMAX to have it shown exclusively for 4 weeks on their screens if Michael Bay and company shot scenes with the IMAX technology. They did, and all was well. That is, until Warner Brothers pushed back the date for Harry Potter from a 2008 release date to Summer 2009, opening July 15th. That conflicts with the exclusive window for IMAX that Paramount had set in stone for ages (4 weeks from opening), and therefore Harry Potter will not begin IMAX showings until July 29th now. Potterbots are up in arms ranting on ROTF and Paramount. From our perspective sounds more like a Warner Brothers issue. Maybe they shouldn't release their flicks when conflicts like this are present. Or rather yet - just don't try and compete with Transformers. I think Paramount was in the right, and Im glad they didn't budge. Either way, get ready for your ROTF on IMAX, they start at 12:01 AM Tuesday night/Wednesday morning opening week (June 24th). | | | Views: 6,091 | | realCliffjumper:

And the fp pic is awesome too Megatronwp38:
Awesome! Go Paramount!
Shankz:
I'm definitely looking more forward to Harry Potter (ROTF a close 2nd though), but being I've never seen an IMAX movie and don't plan to, no big deal. I also side with Paramount in this.
Nutcrusher:
Paramount's on a roll this year.
vslayerntx:
Unlike a lot of people here I am a fan of both Transformers and Harry Potter. While I am disappointed HP won't be available on IMX until 2 weeks later I completely side with paramount on this.....they booked the deal first and the WB who pissed offed HP fans by moving the opening date anyway are the ones who screwed up the time table so the only people to be pissed off at here is WB....but oh well I will see both movies on IMAX anyway.....not a huge deal in my opinion

I think the Potter-ites and WB are becoming aware that they might not beat out TF at the box office again. | Hahaha, it's funny how to have your nose in the air about Potter, yet you are on a Transformers message board.
It's all geeky, dude.

Ceasar121:
Never got Harry Potter and it's frail lead characters. A bunch of girly looking guys and their gay teacher never appealed to me.
At any rate, I find this hilarious. Honestly though, I would see this controversy working in both companies favor... alot of dumb people will go see both in IMAX just to find out what the fuss is about.
StarSaber79:
Lol love that image for the news story and all I can say is HA!
VokVisitor:
That's what they get for not releasing the Harry Potter movie eight months ago, like they were supposed to. Serves Warner Brothers right.
The HP film was scheduled for last November, but they go the bright idea to push it back to summer 2009 to cash in on the "lack of other films in the summer line-up." Turns out they were right, they won't have many other films to contend with... but the ONE that they do have is Transformers 2, one of the biggest and most anticipated films of all! LOL.
Lakanl:
I actually went to that site, and checked out at least the comments and all I have to say is:
AHHHHHHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
Yesss, Yesss, cry!!! Cry more, Your tears sustain me!! AH HA HA HA HA HA!!!
Bgrngod:
My fear is that the Potter fans will buy ROTF tickets and act like douchebags during the show. The last thing I want to hear while watching ROTF is "shazamwazle!" or whatever the hell they yell when they fling their wands about. Well, that and "Prime... I am your father!".
Prowl:
That's what they get for pushing Harry back to make room for....lol.... Twilight.
[Wing_Saber-X]:
WORD & THIS~!
LOLZ and whatever, Potter-files. YOU LOOSE. [Wing_Saber-X]: Quote:

HAH! TAKE THAT!! *smacks the head of the potter-fan with a leader sized toy"! butz:
Sounds like WB made a mistake.
03Mach1:
Bad move on WB's part. Sort of a surprise that WB would be so caught up in the Dark Knight that they wouldn't do a little research before they moved one of their biggest franchise's release date. And for the record, HP6 will be awesome. Don't act like it won't.
AlphaOmegaBlurr:
Harry Potter Movies are good for only one thing....GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Moy:
HA! Ultrawave:
OMG That's so epic, I get to go to Transformers on the day of my gf's and my anniversary (24th) and then I can go see harry potter the 29th on my birthday =P win!
Score two for me 8)
Storm: silly potter fans, not our fault that Warner Bros put back the dater to what it is. We booked the date before they made the change.
Scantron:
Well, maybe if the IMAX version of Harry Potter had slightly extended robot fight sequences shot with the full 70mm IMAX camera, Warner would have been able to get the premiere date they wanted.

but seriously SUCK IT POT-HEADS

Hey, it's pretty harsh to call Harry Potter movies garbage. I first of all am a Transformers fan, and secondly a horror movie fan, then superheroes, then further down the line Harry Potter is in there. I think it's funny how upset that the HP crazies are getting over this IMAX movie swap. Personally, as a fan of both, TF is definitely more worthy to see IMAX than HP, although I've never seen an IMAX movie, it just makes more sense. Giant ass kicking robots that drive an FX movie, or teeny boppers that can sling a spell or two. Transformers were made to be big, mean, and in your face. Harry Potter is just meant to be there so someone can make a buck off of a book to movie indirect transfer. Transformers all the way!!
03Mach1:
When did everyone on the internet become so unsure of their manhood that they have to bash EVERY movie that the comic shop guy deems as such? Johnator:
I am not a Harry Potter fan but it really doesn't seem like they care that it is ROTF or that there is some rivalry or anything. It sucks for them but it is the right thing to do. That said I am not going to even see the Harry Potter movie but I think ROTF is probably going to suck anyway so either way nobody really wins. I hope I am wrong and I enjoy ROTF since I thought the first movie was "ok".
Fosterlager:
haha, go play with your magic wands.
Razorwing:
Potter has nothing on Prime. Prime wins.
Number1sikko:
Poor Potter fans. ROTF FTW! moreprimeland: Quote:

Pretty well said everything I was thinking. Thanks! Keroshino:
Harry Potter(The Movies) Suck!!!...so I am Happy
Because Transformers ROTF-in IMAX will have an extra "TEN" Minutes of footage so...
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen FTW QuantumShock:
Must bash HP movies to make myself feel manly. Hooray for Paramount.
G1Optimal:
Although, i am not a fan of Harry Potter and i don't want to see it in IMAX (even if i did i am unable to ) ... "+ you may, call me crazy for saying this."
I have to feel sorry for the fans, as if i did want to watch it at IMAX "it" could of ended up being Transformers. Crescent-31:
I think the HP fans declared war to us XD
*gets the camera*

I read every book I liked the books (writing wasn't the best, but I got involved) but the movies are just bad in my opinion. I saw the last one on IMAX, with the 3D thing and everything, and it just didn't work. ROTF is MUCH better suited for the IMAX.

DreadwindsGhost:
Oh noes!
What are all the creepy 40 year olds who read Potter books going to do now?
Seriously, I have no problem with Potter per se, but I'm sick to the teeth of adults reading the books and declaring how awesome they are. They're not, by the way. They're facile, and very poorly written. But that's ok, because they're meant to be kid's books. I have many friends who are Potter fans, and time and again they have tried to get me to watch the movies. No thanks. I saw the first, and wasn't impressed.
Now of course, people might say that Transformers is for kids, and they'd be right. But I started to like Transformers as a kid. I didn't get into them as a 32 year old.
Anyway, that's off the point somewhat. If you plan your movies poorly, this is what happens. I'm sure Potter will make a lot of money regardless, but this won't do it's revenue much good at all.
Blitz.:
I fell really let down by those potter fans. They dont have half the nerd rage we do even about repaints. Shame the idea of an angry wizard board invasion seems funny
keetongu:
Thats right harry pott head its revenge of the fallen beat that lol - iamsoo happy tf is coming first
Rikerwota:
*shakes head* It is scarily disturbing how many people here are getting off bashing Harry Potter (or substitute any other fanbase for that matter). That kind of infantile attitude actually makes me pause about being associated with TF fans.
If you don't like a franchise - fine - but to turn into a bunch of whiney, supposedly-superior fanboys/girls over it and to just be purely insulting and hateful at other peoples' misfortune? Sorry, that's just sad and I pity you.
