According to Deadline, Transformers Dark of the Moon did a total of 13.5 Million for Tuesday IMAX 3D and Midnight and later Wednesday showings. This is less than Revenge of the Fallen, but it’s a different world today, and people are less likely to spend 40 bucks to stay up late during the week :). Plus, not all folks had access to IMAX or 3d Theaters late last night and want to wait for that.
Some are predicting 200 Million by July 4th, and 1 Billion worldwide in the end. What do you guys think? Sound off in here: Early Midnight Totals Are In!

I saw it for the 9pm IMAX 3D – and the theater was fairly full. And the line for the midnight showing (IMAX3D), 3D, and 1 or 2 w/ 2D had a line well out the front doors & wrapping around the theater when we got out at 11:30pm.
I think, just due to how ticket prices have gone up, DOTM will clear $1B in box office by the end. ROTF was just plain crappy other than visually, and it made more than TF07 (wasn't it over $800M?)… so I think it's safe to say DOTM will clear 1B.

Agreed 100%

Even if it doesn't reach the massive numbers that ROTF did in its first week in theaters I believe that DOTM will have better legs.
This movie is exceptionally better than the previous one. Word of mouth will hopfully get the people in the theaters who remain skeptical after their dislike for the second.

DOTM is getting sbout 2 hundred fewer screens than ROTF but ROTF had more average dollars per screen than DOTM. Are people less interested or don't want to spend the extra money for 3d? Alot of people are not wasting money on 3d as we have had a bunch of sorry 3d movies as of late. I for one don't like having to wear the glasses. I find it annoying. Time will tell.
Avatar didn't set any records, just a steady stream of viewers for weeks.

I really hope so but only time will tell. I thought this movie was much more fun and interesting than blue cats being a bunch of hippies.

And is it getting less money because of interest or are fewer screens playing it because of 3d? Are people holding out for 3D? When I left the theatre Tuesday night, there were quite a few people waiting for midnight showings.

you have to remember i don't think that alot of people knew that it opened wed. it will be just fine.

No. Day one for ROTF was $62M.
Hopefully DOTM can make up for this over the weekend.

Is that more than ROTF?

Wednesday's numbers are in and it made $37 million, so I think it will do just fine.

It may be below ROTF so far, but DOTM will still make some nice numbers by the end of the weekend. Word of mouth seems to be good so far, and blockbusters like this are usually critic-proof.
Some people automatically include the price of popcorn and soda when they talk about ticket price. My friends do it, and it drives me crazy. Overpriced snacks aren't required to see the movie!
Easterling Capt
the movie will do good. so far it is merely fanboys who already hate the movie that dislike it. These are the same ppl that have bitched about it since 07.
Shizuka
13.5 million from only the early IMAX 3D release sounds quite good. ROTF didn't have that.
BB Shockwave
Huh? Since when do movie tickets cost that much in the USA?
Teletran
none of this matters until weekend totals are in
thygriever
i want this movie to do really well because if they don't make their huge numbers they might not try and work so hard on another movie (if there is to be one) or reboot or whatever

I think the moving up of the premiere date to the middle of the week from it's original date is what hurt the initial opening. I do think that the weekend numbers will be more indicative of if ROTF's reputation, bad reviews or the bad economy are playing a part.

You're wrong, the Megan Ditz fans would only bring in a revenue of $70.

And yet, ROTF was the number 1 or 2 most sold DVD's of the year.
You have many factors into play here.
1st. People are too broke and are rejecting the 3D technology (every movie that was released in 3D did below expectations so far this year in the domestic box office)
2nd, the changing of the release dates surely are not helping. Nobody at my work was aware of a Tuesday premiere, and most already had intentions of seeing this on Friday (I myself am waiting for Saturday)
3rd. If ROTF made 16 million in it's preview and midnight showings compared to DOTM's 13 million, that's 3 million off, right? That 3 million is probably the horny teens that refused to watch the movie because there is no Megan Fox to jack off to.
4th, there is the possibility that people are just not interested, but it's hard to tell until next week. I still think this is going to make mad, mad money OS.
