 | | | Transformers Revenge of the Fallen to Rifftraxed | | Posted on 10-18-2009 at 07:06 AM by Sol Fury | | There's no denying that there is plenty of material in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen that lends itself to parody, so it should come as no surprise at all that a Rifftrax has been announced. You can check out the preview page by clicking on the link above.

At its heart, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a love story. A love story between two dogs, Mojo and Frankie, who are shown humping several times in the first fifteen minutes of the movie*. Stunningly, this remains a highlight over the next two hours of movie. We don't see much of the dogs after their owner, Shia LaBeouf, leaves for college, but we found our thoughts frequently drifting back to them as the human characters dropped their pants, ran into things, and stammered incoherently. Who was feeding the dogs? Were they getting along with the other dogs at the dog park? How was Frankie adapting to the new diet the vet had put him on back in June?
Sadly, these questions go unanswered. In fact, any question you may have regarding Transformers will go unanswered, because Transformers movies are not in the business of answering your questions. Transformers movies are like the street corner rantings of a tinfoil hat wearing lunatic. You don't expect that guy to actually stop and explain to you what he meant by "The IRS built Yellowstone National Park on the same evening 180 years ago that the Lizard People shot down Sputnik with a rifle made from Avogadro's Number!" You just slink past him and try to wash the spittle off of your jacket when you get home. The same applies for Transformers. Don't you dare ask it "How did these characters whose names I don't know get to this location and what is their purpose once they get there and who is punching who right now?" Just lie back and think of the dogs. Focus on the dogs...Always on the dogs...
The tinfoil hat guy gave Mike, Kevin and Bill's riffing of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen two thumbs up, a rating he had previously only given to a shopping cart wheel that he believed influenced the 2004 presidential election.
*This is not a joke
| i wonder if this works with the IMAX version from Walmart
Fit For natalie:
Probably not. Rifftrax quite often targets movies based upon how many people are likely to own the DVD, hence making fun of movies that actually aren't bad or even "riffable", such as The Dark Knight.
They will most likely riff the standard release, because it will be what most people in the world will own.
Digilaut:
More news for today: various websites have written parodies of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen...
Optronix_prime:
Can't wait for this one, I love rifftrax.
Poho:
i'm pumped to hear the rifftrax for this swiss cheese.
rattrap007:
should be fun. I saw the extra footage and I may just get the standard edition instead of WM one..
Eric:
Oh this is gonna be good. I kinda figured that ROTF would get Rifftraxed sooner or later. I mean, they did it with the first one.
rattrap007:
I just hope they do GI Joe as well... Quote: |

They will most likely riff the standard release, because it will be what most people in the world will own. | The Dark Knight was a great movie, but that doesn't mean it wasn't riffable!
It is one of the best ones too.
This one had "Riff" writen all over it and I can't wait. I am sure it will be very awesome!
MrFX:
ROTF is it's own RiffTrax.
Beastbot X:
I normally enjoy Rifftrax, but I'm probably gonna pass on this one. Nelson & Co. seem to have a real, seething hatred for the TF movies, and some of their comments in the riff of the first one just made no sense, ("Is it intentional that Optimus Prime and Megatron look as alike as two baby ducklings?!" --- Huh?)
If they'd riff it like they normally do (just jokes with the occasional hit on the movie) I'd probably like it, but from the blurb they'll probably just continuously slam a movie that I love and I've heard enough slamming of.
(Also, why does their poster have Megatron's face on a silver Bumblebee's body?)

This one had "Riff" writen all over it and I can't wait. I am sure it will be very awesome! | That is debatable. I've found Rifftrax to be quite boring because the films they target aren't particularly *bad* films. As I said, because their business model depends on DVD ownership for their commentary tracks to be used, they ergo need to go after big movies that for the most part, aren't truly awful and at at the very least competently made.
I recall Corbett or Murphy commenting (on the subject of the Dark Knight) that it's much harder to riff on a good film.
In my opinion, it would be more fun if, like the MST3K days, they went after 1 or less star films as that would provide more of a comedy goldmine, but nobody would own those bad films on DVD, so that would never work out.
ryan.j:
mockery-for-mockery's-sake is a bit cynical, but regardless of how many sacred cows rifftrax slay they're worth it if they're entertaining in their own right.
i don't find them that funny, so i strike a happy medium by stealing rifftrax off the internet.
BustaJesse:
I really don't find any Rifftraxx funny, in fact they seem really lame. They remind me of that annoying guy in the theater or relative everyone has who is painfully obnoxious and can't keep their mouth shut during a movie.
BustaJesse:
Yay double post.
Optimus Sledge:
Don't think I've ever listened to one. But then, I never found MST3K that funny.

It is from all the "other" MST3K guys, and is much better. They go after bad movies, and utilize the silhouette in front of the movie screen. Highly reccomended!
Optimus Sledge:
RonimousPrime: missing the point does not mean what you think it means. Unless you honestly believe the point of Rifftraxx is to annoy you.
Chaos Prime:
I really can't wait for this rifftrax to come out. It's going to be good.
I mean if you take a step back, you can totally see why Bayformers was riffed on. It's a pretty bad movie. A special effects blockbuster, granted, but when you get right down to the meat of it's riff worthy.

Wheeljack_Prime:
I'll be listening to this.
rattrap007:
I'm going to get 2 disk Walmart and single disk Target so I can have one for riffing with out adjustments.
Gingerchris:
Isn't TFW's movie forum the unofficial Rifftrax for ROTF? Quote:

shroobmaster:
Like I'm going to pay for 2 hours of comments that ain't even as funny as people on message boards (not to mention free! wooow)
Paxtin:
Knowing how anti Hollywood Mike and Co are, I envision that the entire commentary is just one long track of horrific screaming.
Rifftrax can be hit or miss. Some can be hilarious, others kinda lame, and some a mix of both.
Also I know how it would be hard to listen to guys, coming from an obvious outsiders perspective, riff on something you like. Kind of like on the X-men rifftrax.
That's probably why MST3K was so successful, they riffed on movies no one cared about. catch22:
Hmmm...when the first movie got rifftrax I posted a topic in news and it got shut down real quick.
primenemesis:
what the F is rifftrax?
JKahn913:
This is terrific. I love Rifftrax. I actually prefer their commentaries with movies I already enjoy, so this should be a hit.
Dran0n:
Another parody of ROTF ....... yay.

now imagine a that same thing made by a few guys with nothing whatsoever to do with the movie, who rip the piss out of it for the duration. it's like watching the movie with a couple of mildly obnoxious geeky mates and a few of beers. But without needing any friends, pizza or beer.
are you friendless, beerless and snackless? spend a few bucks on one of these mp3s and play it at the same time as the movie. in rifftrax favour, you can sit and listen to them in your underwear, actual friends often object to that.
Ruthie:
The TF1 Rifftrax was fantastic! "Jazz, you fall biz'ack" is still my favorite line.

Originally Posted by primenemesis what the F is rifftrax? | Ever watch Mystery Science Theater 3000? If no, well it was a show where a man and two little robots are forced to watch the worst movies of all time. We are talking 1950s Z-grade tripe much of the time. It is stuff a studio would have sitting in a vault collecting dust much of the time. They also made fun of lots of lots of educational short films like they would show in a 1950s/60s classroom.
To counteract the horrible movie the man and two little robot companions will sit and heckle the movie. They make jokes and ridicule the movie. Here are a few shorts: Posture Pals Mr B Natural part 1
Well the show lasted for 10 season on cable and was canceled. Head writer/star Micheal J. Nelson (writer 2-10, star season 5-10), and Writers/stars Kevin Murphy (writer all seasons, star season 2+) and Bill Corbett (season 8-10) created a new venture. Rifftrax. A rifftrax is a downloadable audio file to be played along with the movie on an I-pod. The audio file is synchronized with the film so the jokes play at the proper time.
It is added enjoyment to a movie. Since it is audio only on feature films, it gets around any copyright infringement issue and allows them to poke funny of ANY movie they think they can make money on. They've made fun of Lord of the Rings, Spiderman films, Harry Potter films, Battlefield Earth, cloverfield, etc. Try watching a few samples.
BB Shockwave:
Could someone care to explain what this means? They'll do a video parody of the movie, or a commentary? Never heard of RIFFtrax before.
JKahn913:
It's a commentary that runs synchronized with the length of the movie.

Highly reccomended! | Yeah, I'll probably check that out, especially since Joel got the short end of the stick when he had to leave MST3K. But I like Kevin Murphy's sense of humour and his "Tom Servo" voice
At the same time, I found some of the films MST3K targeted to be too painful to watch, so I'm wary of paying for the privilege with Cinematic Titanic Quote:

Rifftrax sells mp3 (or specialised .riff) audio commentary tracks for you to listen to while watching your DVDs.
DeathDrop:
Raise your hands if you didn't see this coming.
Randomus Prime:
Can't wait. Should be hilarious!

We have been saying bad things about this movie on this board for free, when we could have just gotten a microphone and got paid for this. That's it, from now on pay me if you want me to take apart ROTF! [/sarcasm]

besides, they're legitimately quite amusing guys who are doing more than complaining about the movie, as opposed to the frothy-mouthed hate rants of the internet or the verbal onanism of Bay's accidentally hilarious commentaries.
rattrap007:
go to We don't make movies, we make them funny! | RiffTrax and watch a few of the clips from movies they mocked. Great stuff.
Also now they have I Riffs which let you and me write, star in, and sell our own tracks. But those are hit or miss. Hoor-riff-ic Productions is a husband and wife team and they are the best. They mock horror films. Their gimmick is she is a zombie and he is an out of work slasher. Lots of great stuff from them. They are as good as the main three.
There is also Rifftrax Presents, which are official tracks from people other than Mike. They got The Nostalgia Critic and two buddies doing Batman and Robin. There are also a few with Bill and Kevin. There is one with Mary Jo Peal who played Pearl on MST3K and was another writer. Mike's wife and fellow MST3K writer Bridgett does a track with Mike for Gray's Anatomy pilot.
Fit For natalie:
That joke with the stuttering sounded suspiciously like padding to me. Went on a bit longer than the joke needed. Still gave me a chuckle, though.
rattrap007:
I agree. But Shia does the whole "No no no no no no no no..." bit a bunch himself. Just mocking it bit more. I did like the jokes about the shape changing alien/Species and sexy robot/T3 reference.
Aaron:
I'm not into Rifftrax. I can't see myself paying 4 dollars to listen to an iPod while watching a movie.
Beastbot X:
You don't have to put them on an iPod. I just use a laptop hooked up to 2 good speakers and set it next to the TV.

Thanks for the condescending comment and "Tropey" award though dude | we've all read many, many forum threads where people yammer on about about ROTF and very few of them were even remotely entertaining, let alone roffle funny.
You're not paying to hear some random guy nobody cares about yammer about a movie - the rifftrax team are a relatively well-known comedy product, think of it as rending a stand-up comedian's DVD. so by all means, slate their childish unfunny jokes and below-par satire, but the concept is still perfectly valid.
i'd go so far as to say it's a good idea, and i'm not overly fussed by rifftrax. 'Tropeys' all round! \o/
