Transformers Revenge of the Fallen sells 4 Million Copies on its first day (Unconfirmed) 0003242907514_500x500
Nelson has posted an update on Michael Bay's official website regarding Transformers Revenge of the Fallen's home release. On the first day on sale, reports have come in that retailers from NYC, Housten, LA and Chicago have completely sold out of Revenge of the Fallen DVDs and Blu Rays.

As if this was not enough, Nelson reports that he has heard reports, currently unconfirmed, that total unit sales for the first day are in the region of 4 million copies of Revenge of the Fallen being sold.

Good job, ROTF... Here's hoping it breaks some records.

EDIT: An update... Official figures are in.

https://michaelbay.com/newsblog/newsblog.html

It has sold through 7.5 million DVDs and Blurays in the first week.

It sold 2 million on DVD the first day, and 500k on Bluray the first day for a total of 2.5 mil on day 1.

Just wanted to update my previous post here with more accurate news.

GOOD JOB ROTF!!! BRING ON TF3!
megaxz01:
Sorry for the double thread post... Something seemed wrong with the site... Please delete one.

Just another note... Didn't TF1 sell 3 million in one week? Selling 4 million in one day is insanely awesome.

Sorry again.
Triggerhappy:
WOW, in comparison with other DVD's like how good is that?
megaxz01:
I don't know. 4 million in one day is astounding. Especially since it got trash reviews at the B.O.

I loved the movie personally, and bought it both on DVD and Bluray (IMAX versions.)
AMG:
Very impressive.
rapid_fire:
the movie is epic. How many people do you think bought the bluray version and sat there going through all the bot scenes, frame by frame
megaxz01:
The movie looks fantastic on Bluray. Especially the IMAX scenes, which look very crisp.

I did find myself slowmoing a few scenes.

Namely to try and find R2D2, and seeing how some of the bots transform.
Tell_Story:
Wow! That's 80 mill in one day with all DVD's priced at $20.00. I hated the movie personally, but I bought it on blu ray, it's my first blu ray! I have a ps3 on the way! Woo Hoo!
Tim Formas:
On par basically with the first movie, if not slightly lower. The first movie sold 4.5 million on the first day and 8 million the first week.
Transformers Best Selling DVD of the Year Already - Transformers News

All told, still pretty impressive numbers.
megaxz01:
Awesome... Not only is ROTF the highest grossing movie of the year, it is also highest selling DVD of the year already.

I bet this will sell some Bluray players as well.

EDIT: Oh and forgot to add... BRING ON TF3. New combiner, can we have it?

And even people who hated it are buying it. I guess that explains the big numbers.

I'll probably get it too, in due course.
Beastbot X:
Yeah, everyone just hates this movie.

You know people who hated it are buying it.

In all honesty though, when I saw this in theatres, I saw an old couple there (easily in their 70's.) This goes to show how popular TF is getting. It has gone mainstream.

A month back, I was at a local Walmart, and I saw this old lady looking at the HDTV, checking out what movie was on the screen she seemed like she wanted to know what it was. As soon as she saw Scorponok jump through the sand at Tyrese and the other dude's running, she said "Oh, now I know what this is." Too cool.

I bet this ends up being the best selling Bluray for awhile too.
Godziboy1993:

Not bad for a 1/4 star movie Roger Ebert, so suck it. Noone can stop the oncoming juggernaut that is ROTF!

I guess we're still all a bunch of de-evolved idiots, aren't we Ebert?
tarheels:
I know my walmart was sold out of the Dvd Imax version, so I bought the Blue Ray version instead. I will just have to watch it on my computer for awhile.
deceptifocus:
Housten? and crap i couldnt find the Imax version either, anyone who have it think its really worth the difference over the BluRay?
SmokescreenGT:
Very cool. I got my copy. Can't wait to sit down and watch it!
Angelwave:
Well it's seems to have done really well at least with the Blu Ray copy. Three WalMarts by me have sold out of their first batch of the BDs. That $20 price tag and the Imax footage has gone over very well.
Dran0n:
Awesome
TransSpawn:
Wasn't sold out at my Walmart, but getting my Blue-ray Imax version for $19 something before tax was a nice surprise.
Mightion:
The Target I got my Bumblebee DVD from had loads left of all types - both DVD and BluRay.
Moy:
I'm sure Roger Ebert also bought a copy of ROTF, hiding his identity ofcourse, and probably watching it right now, what a douche!!
Black Omega:
Incredible for a critically panned movie.
Chris McFeely:
Ha ha, I was JUST arguing this with a friend a few hours ago! Trash reviews or no, John Q. Public loved ROTF, and I *knew* the DVD was going to sell gangbusters.
Vengecore:
My wife got the WM Blu-Ray for $13 yesterday. They are sold out today.

And yes the WM Blu-Ray with IMAX is intensely better.

I read on blu-ray.com that the IMAX version doesn't have as good of sound as the regular version. Anyone heard/read anymore on this?
jerky123:
I call shenanigans. Thought it is possible, I think it might be a little to much for the first day.
G1Jetfire:
Preordered the WM IMAX DVD over the weekend. Out of pocket was less than $20. Hope it arrives soon. Wonder if the 4 MIL sold includes online sales.
Opticron Primal:
I got my copy at Walmart today. Plenty of the single and 2-disc DVDs. only a handful of Blu-Ray.

Though it selling well is in no way a surprise.

no records broken as Finding Nemo Sold 8 million dvds in one day and the live action record belongs to Spiderman with around 7 million

Yeah but I'm sure they sold loads too.

Yesterday morning I saw all of the copies we had in back and almost crapped myself. I've been working electronics for 2 years and I had never seen so many copies of one movie come in like that.

I put out over 130 copies of just the regular version DVD. All that was left this morning in the back was a few cases of the exclusives for BR and regular BR versions, the rest were on the shelf and will probably be history by the end of the week.
Mechafire:
Awesome.
Autobot-Girl:

Wow, that's a lot of RoTF...
I need one!
stevej:
I've still not seen it... Still, now it's out I'll be able to find a nice HD version to download.

I'm not expecting much.
Ktulu:
To my "Big Sales = Quality" friends, Mamma Mia! is the UK's highest selling DVD ever. You guys all like that too, right? I mean, it sold bunches! You're crazy not to!

It means a lot of people liked it (or bought it as a gag gift).
This shows (presumably) that average people probably enjoyed RotF enough to get it on disc.
SUCK IT EBERT
Solrac333:
Awesome! I got the Walmart version. LOVE the movie.

....if you hate the movie, why would you buy this movie?
TRANS+CRAZY:

That is just awesome!
Starscreamer217:
Woot! Time for my showgirl for celebration!!!

alfred p. sloan:
Good news for sure. I'm not surprised. It is the Biggest movie of 2009.

The thing that impressed me the most is how good it really is. With all the backlash and hatred online I forgot that the movie is actualy quite good. The battles being the best of both movies and just the sheer amount of robots in the whole thing.

It is a bit long, and the final battle isn't as good as TF07's final battle but all in all I actually like it better thabn the first.I am nmot alone, the movie is well loved by almost all of america.

About what part of the movie would I be able to find this? Is there a pic of this anywhere?

Thanks!

It's a pretty cool musical yep, totally deserves it.

Even Harry Potter had it's problem competing with RotF!! It was 1rst place internationally, but came 2nd in the national earnings !! As expected, it has become tiresome. The last film felt a little bit boring !!
neoprimus01:
Well, it has my money from day 1

It doesn't surprise me that it sold that quick, even with all the hate surrounding it. Sell on, sell on ROTF

I have about $25,000 in speakers, processor and amps in my home theater and what I can tell you is that the volume was low (about 4 dB) compared to other movies at reference levels. Many folks at AVSForum who have both copies (I don’t have both) agree with this. This is not so much a sound quality issue than it is an oversight that can be corrected by turning up the volume. Please keep in mind that 4 dB is not a small amount. We perceive double the volume at every 10 dB increase.
blackout501st:
very nice! money money money! cant wait to buy the best buy blue ray version ether with the prime bust. that blue ray will look so good on my ps3.

the special features on the dvd are pretty cool. especially the 25 years of transformers documentary. makes me feel so patriotic

and thank jolt that the delegated scenes WERE deleted. the one with sam's parents and sam's dad's "Eiffel tower" were horrible. no doubt people would have bitched about that.
Opticron Primal:
Yeah.....though Leo's "I will CUT you!" line was gold.
Cyber-Scream:
Awesome. When I went to Wal-Mart there was only a few left on the DVD shelves, but there was tons of Blu-Ray.
AutobotSkids:
Seriously?!

That's amazing! Great job ROTF! Despite the nay sayers, ROTF really is overwhelmingly poplular.

I bet TF3 breaks some BIG records!
