Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Passes ROTF Lifetime Revenue

Word from BoxOfficeMojo tells us that Transformers: Dark Of The Moon has passed the Lifetime Revenue of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, this weekend.

In just 26 Days Transformers 3 earned $882,389,000 ($882 Million) worldwide whereas Transformers 2 only managed to grab $836,297,228 (836 Million) throughout its entire run (June 29 - October 15, 2009).

Unfortunately Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 destroyed DOTM at the boxoffice; shattering records previously held by TF3 not too long ago. But as we speak, Paramount’s Captain America got a Shield powerful enough to protect the company from Potter’s magic.

Transformers 3 is yet to release in Japan later this week. And with it hopefully will reach the US$ 1 Billion mark comfortably.

If you have enjoyed the movie… go watch it again… If you haven’t watched it yet… what are you waiting for?

Dang, I knew China was getting DOTM later, but Japan is getting it later than I thought. Plan on trying to beat out HP this week by going again with my nephew.

Edit: For Moy and others...from the article.

China on July 21 and Japan on July 29

You should consider posting each tidbit of the boxoffice results, because in fact, they are not special. A true record braker would look different.
BTW, take a look at the Twilight movies at boxofficemojo in comparison which are essentialy shit C-class movies with sub-par special effects. You get the point?!
thebruteslayer
Thanks for the news cred! DOTM Goin' rape dat box office.

ZOMG MY 1,000th POST!!!
Johnator
Do we have to have "news" every few days about how much money the movie is making?
ElectricPrada09
Yeah guys. Can you stop posting information about transformers movies on a transformers website? It makes no sense.
MadCatTonton
I need to see it again in the cinema some time soon! Twice wasn't enough...
Been listening to the soundtrack constantly man its great score!
I hope DOTM passes the billion mark and we get a forth...no Bay but kept in the Bay-verse!

Yep they are not special. Transformers is currently the #1 movie domestically in 2011. It will most likely end up in the Top 2 for 2011. That's not special at all.

Transformers DOTM broke the record for the biggest 4th of July weekend. So how would a true record holder look different?

Please.

This is great news for the Transformers franchise! Congrats to Bay and everybody else connected to the movie! Here's hoping for a 4th!

If one is not interested in how much the movie makes, simply skip the thread entirely.
Why bother coming in and whine about it ?

I have no interest in many front page 'news' items too, e.g. third party add on kits, toy reviews, comic solicitations, or even Linkin Park's music video.

But that doesn't mean I have to go around grumbling about it, for I know someone else might find it interesting, and thus should rightly be there. The world doesn't revolve around one person's priorities alone.
transformers32
Amd it was the fastest to reach 500 million worldwide ever. I have seen it 4 times so far and plan to go see it again.
kajobaldisimo
people who still want other people to not enjoy this movie like they did, c'mon give it up already.

numbers speak.

numbers don't say 'masterpiece' but we already know that with Bay TF. isn't it the third movie already?

numbers say, though, that this movie is fun!

That's all well & good but where was Megatron the whole time? He just sat there like a big pussy. Didn't do anything the entire time & then when he finally did get off his lazy ass to go into battle he gets an axe to the head in 2 seconds flat. Yeah, that's right! MEGATRON! Big bad ass MEGATRON! Reduced to a little wimpy pussy that doesn't even know how to fight. And what about Starscream? Where was he? A 3 hour Transformers movie & you only saw Megatron & Starscream for a total of about 5 minutes. 90% of the movie was about The Beef & his stupid job problems. And the other 10% was about Sentinel kicking everybody's ass. Every Transformer in this movie was reduced to background noise, even Bumblebee was hardly in it.

Everybody craps all over ROTF but at least that Transformers movie was about Transformers. I was going to see DOTM again but now that I think about it, I don't think I will. I'm not interested in watching Sam trying to find a job & John Malkovich acting like a flaming retard for 3 hours straight.

Transformers was fun!

Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen totally blew me away. Best time I ever had at the movies & still my #1 favorite movie.

Transformers Dark Of The Moon? The final battle was fun. The 16 years it took to build up to the final battle? Not so much fun. Sam job hunting?=Sucked! John Malkovich acting like a retard?=Pointless! Should've been completely cut, didn't do anything to move the story along. All the Transformers except for Optimus & Sentinel being pushed to the background?=LAME! Maybe the writers should've gone on strike again for this movie.

Just to add more info, here in Peru DOTM has become the most successfull movie on a premiere to date. MOre than 110000 people went on the first day. I am preparing a post with pics of all the activities we got here in Peru.

I might as well as just pay money and ask people to watch it for free as I pay
Badwolf00
I like to think the seven times I've seen DOTM now has help in some way form or fashion XD.

I really hope, Harry friggin Potter doesn't slow DOTM's progress towards 1 Bill down any but I know it will... well, anyhow DOTM has had one hell of an impressive build towards that 1 Bill mark!

Why? Does it offends you that movie is being successful ?
Opticris Prime
Well actually the build doesnt have to stop. It could be gradual because the Delayed foreign markets and the residual build from here in the already released places should have it reach 1 billion!

That's amazing!! I'll be seeing it again this weekend with my friend..but i'll also be seeing Harry Potter. I can't help myself, I read all the books, you know, that sort of thing. But i'll be seeing DOTM one more time so that adds to what I've already invested..i'm just digging myself in deeper aren't I?

DOTM has already passed TF1 in terms of International Box Office, and is about $30m shy of ROTF.

It also had a better second week domestically than ROTF, and was playing in fewer theaters.

That's one of the coolest things about the box office this time around. DotM is making a killing on the international market. And I don't think it's opened in China yet, where TFs are huge (more than in Japan, which is kind of surprising).

Thanks for bringing that up! DotM had a smaller dropoff than RotF, which usually means better word of mouth. Which could potentially mean better legs and better dvd/netflix sales down the road. Harry Potter is the only big bump in the road now...because he also opens huge all over the world. (<--that's supposed to represent a wizard's hat, BTW)

It didn't and neither did he.

Not surprising at all. Transformers have a ridiculous small fan base in Japan, Gundam is their thing.
iceburn9
I'm not sure if this is possible, but ..

Perhaps they could invest some of the profits into making new robot scenes for the DVD release. I'm sure they still have a bunch of unused location footage, which they could then easily insert some CGI robots into.

They won't need to do any more shoots, just some rendering at ILM.

This would give them a chance to complete some scenes that felt 'incomplete', i.e. Shockwave's meeting with Optimus at Chernobyl, how the Autobots were taken hostage at Chicago, etc, or even to show off some of the other side characters in more detail.

While I'm not sure how much that would improve DVD sales, I'm confident it would spur more people to buy the DVD for the extras.

It's awesome... 184 percent ahead of ROTF in RUSSIA... The first time I do not feel alone in my country...
