According to DVDWorldUSA, Transformers: Dark of the Moon Home Video Release is happening on Friday 30th September, 2011 (Friday, Friday, Gotta Get Down On Friday!).
The release date seems legit since the previous Transformers movie DVDs/Blu-rays were released 3 months after the theatrical release as well.
At the moment Transformers 3 is at the fifth position of All-Time High Worldwide Grosses (not adjusted to inflation).
Michael Bay’s third Transformers Live Action Movie is the most financially successful film out of the three and received better fan reaction than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
According to the website, DOTM will be available in…
- Single Disc DVD
- 2-Disc Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack
- Blu-Ray 3D/Blu-Ray 2D, DVD, Digital Copy Triple Play Pack

We'll probably get it in December, November at the earliest. What I want to know is, when is the blu-ray trilogy box set coming out?
Poho

Now if this is fact, when will the Australians get their DVD/Blu-Ray of TF-DOTM?

Hmm… Transformers: Dark of the Moon [2 D : Target
It does say October 4th. If I find anything new on the DPCI, I'll post it asap.
Makes me wonder if Target is holding it back for a certain reason. I'll do my best to get more info.
Puzzling.

It makes no sense what so ever for a movie to be announced 10 days prior to release has that ever happened? That's a rookie marketing move
TFXProtector
No… That is not what I said, please pay attention.
I said official information of the film's video release is not allowed out until September 20th. The film itself will be out on September 30th. There is a difference, please slow down and re-read before posting stuff like this.
It doesn't have to be. Here's how it really is. You see it one way and you absolutely think you're right. We see it a different way and have some facts to back up what we've said.
We're not going to sway you, you're not going to sway us. Let's leave it as is.

Okay This could quickly derail and would definitely become a long debate, so I'll just leave it there.

You mean Sept. 20th is when it comes out? PLZ BE TRUE PLZ BE TRUE

September 20th. They're not allowed to release the information publicly until then. It's locked down and it's not specified why.
Most homes can accommodate a 7.1 system, most people just don't. I have a 7.1 system in my home, I'm not super rich and didn't spend big bucks. I spent $100.00 on speakers and $30.00 on a soundcard. 7.1 can make sense in a home. Blanket statements like that really bother me.
It might be. I know Toy Story 3 is, and it sounded fantastic. However, it could be that Disney Digital Mix too. Those are crap, btw. They're not as advertised.
I'm not a hardcore audiophile and even I have to agree. There is something to those extra speakers. Whether it's the highs and lows of a score, or a special sound effect, or just overall atmosphere effects, those two extra speakers can make a world of difference to your experience.
Not to mention, movies that are made in 7.1 and forced to be output through 5.1, are much much louder and harder to understand in terms of dialogue to background sound ratio.
If a movie is 2.0 and played in 2.0 or 5.1, it's fine. It's fake surround, but it's fine. If a movie is 5.1 and played in 2.0, the sound is louder because you're forcing several channels into 2, or 2.1.
Same thing with 7.1 Force it into 5.1 and it's loud, force it into 2.0 and you have to crank it just to hear the dialogue, but everything else just rocks your eardrums loose.
This exact same thing happens in movie theaters. A lot of theaters are not equipped with 7.1 (or more) sound systems, even though they state that they are. Some of older Mom & Pop local theaters still have 2.0 systems. Which is part of the reason why critics and audiences complain about the loudness of some films.
Granted, there's not a lot of 7.1 material, so there's no real need to go and spend that kind of money to update your system, but as Blu-Ray and HD digital downloads become more prevalent, 7.1 will as well.
Oh and some early '00s DVDs and some of the early HD DVDs had 6.1
There is a use for 7.1 in the home and it shouldn't be ignored.

I'd say 5000 out of 5000 "hardcore audiophiles" would say they do NOT "MORE than do the trick" and I'd be in complete agreement with them. 7.1 absolutely makes sense in the home.
I'm still calling bogus on this for the official release.
Target.com lists it as October 4th. I will wait for Paramount to make the announcement though.

First Class is being released on DVD/Blu-ray on a Friday too.
MadCatTonton
Just noticed even Disney's Pinocchio is in 7.1!!
Though it's highly likely its not true 7.1 of course
MadCatTonton
Fair point but the homes that do have 7.1 will be annoyed! Your argument would apply to the 3D in that case. 3D TVs have still yet to take off over here, sure they have them in most stores but they're very slow in being sold. The audio is just as important as the visuals for any film, if they've produced and have taken the effort to make a film in 7.1 then it should be available for Blu Ray buyers at least.
Here's a massive list of 7.1 Blu Rays:
price-adjustment.com – Price Adjustment
surely DOTM belongs amongst them.
Incepticon
Probably because most homes can't even accommodate a proper 7.1 system without spending BIG bucks on amps & high end speakers and have the space required to make it all worthwhile, so it's still a very niche market. Most people (who are even on the ball enough to begin with) just buy the 5.1 "home theaters in a box" since they're so inexpensive. And truthfully, those systems MORE than do the trick despite what 1 out every 5000 hardcore audiophiles will say. Bottom line is that 7.1 makes sense in a theater, but not in homes.
MadCatTonton
The film was mixed in 7.1 so why are the Blu Rays coming in 5.1 only?!

Star wars is coming out on a friday, so did megamind. It's more for bigger movies generally, i believe HP did too i dont quite remember.

While there are very few exceptions to the rule, yes, it is indeed odd to have a Friday street date in North America for this release. Any of us who work in media will confirm that across the board. It's not so much "tradition" as it is a long standing industry standard to release (mainstream) music & movie media on Tuesdays while Europe typically sticks to Friday release dates. So I have no idea what they're doing here with DOTM – perhaps expecting a midnight madness sort of thing over a weekend to help boost sales. I have a feeling a lot of box stores will do what's called a 'lite launch' on the Friday date, but all the big rollouts of exclusive versions & combo-sets will still happen that following Tuesday as per normal. Here in Canada, it's all but certain that Walmart, Best Buy & Future Shop will all have their own exclusives as they always have with each Transformers movie. Walmart usually gets the weird packaging like transforming cases and whatnot, Future Shop locks down the Steelbooks, and Best Buy does something with bonus discs and/or slipcase covers. And each of them obviously have an American retailer counterpart that mimic the releases. I think FYE are the guys that usually get the Steelbooks for the States.
Either way, if Sept 30th is indeed the actual street date, we should have full details no later than the first week of September.

Here's hoping for another Black Friday deal.
And I'm surprised we don't have a Trilogy Box set announced. I still need to grab TFTM, just not paying $20 for it new.

The Blu Ray is only Dolby 5.1 TrueHD? I though it was supposed to be 7.1??
